  1. Beautiful work, so sorry for your loss
  2. I like them all, but especially the golf clock, very nice
  3. I'm interested in that answer too. One show fretwork sells, the next it is boxes, the next ... The public is fickle
  4. Thanks for the encouragement folks, I appreciate it
  5. Have to agree, that is a great piece and Dave's pattern is superb
  6. Yes the walls are one piece with the center missing The inlay almost makes it to the surface of the underside but not quite, I cut the inlay so it is a tight fit and sits a little proud which sanding takes care of. the top and bottom are 3/8 thick, no not marquetry
  7. Very nice
  8. I wanted the inlay to be subdued cause I really like the wood pattern of the top (red cedar) - almost too subdued I think.
  9. I''ll add my howdy to the others, this place is like no other on the net, lot of helpful talented folks
  10. Wow, so glad to see that you healed and things are progressing.
  11. Reminds me of that old joke 'tween a mechanic and a heart surgeon, the mechanic says we are same kind of folks, we both make repairs. The heart surgeon, says you fix engines with them running?
  12. Just sharpened the lawn mower blade with it, with the blade still on the mower - easy!
  13. I ordered a mini belt sander a few days ago, it came, I love it. I have no idea how I got along without it for all these years, not just for scrolling but all over the house/yard. Ordered some belts too, various grits, it comes with what seems to be 50 grit. By WEN on amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072Q2FTLY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  14. I agree with Dave on the belt spindle sander, I have one by WEN and love it. I would also suggest a planer, I bought a 6" planer and love it. I do not have a band saw, occasionally I wish I did, but that is a rare project that I can not do what I need to do using other tools I have. A bench top drill press is also handy to have and if you do not bolt it down to a bench, it can be put away when not needed
  15. Thanks for all the kind words folks, appreciate it
  16. I found something similar to it on the net, played with it in inkscape until I thought it looked nice enough to cut. I used that same pattern again for inlay on a box too
  17. Like Dave I use hot glue on the edges too, a razor knife takes them right off if the pattern requires leaving the border
  18. Very nice work, and I love the idea of putting smaller animals as the jig saw pieces, very creative
  19. for those delicate cuts, where my finger just does not fit, I cut this and use it. Poor pic but the curved part extends past the line of the "handle", allows pressure to be applied easily
  20. ROFL you guys are so funny
  21. Western red cedar over pecan live edge
  22. she wanted me to do an elephant for her. I put it in the back of my mind intentionally, letting her think I forgot - have to keep them guessing. Last night I gave her this one
  23. Awesome Jim, one day I will get there.
  24. arrrg, famowood, never heard of it either, I'll have to try it cause mixing saw dust and glue is a pain. Thanks Dave, though my wallet may not thank you as much
  25. If the inlay goes in below the surface and you use "quite a bit of glue", are you mixing wood paste glue and using that, while keeping the inlay flush with the surface?
