  1. Work getting in the way..... Boy that sucks.
  2. Especially when cutting thick wood I use these Pegas blades. They make a real difference. Shop for the best price. http://www.dndsawbladesonline.com/page/79818204
  3. Brian you are on a wood buying binge but I don't blame you with all the good deals you are finding.
  4. Harvey did a great job drawing that pattern and you did a gret job cutting. Sure didn't take long for you to get back in the swing of things. I noticed you haven't been on here lately and wondered why. Now I know.
  5. Like they told me you have to try them to see what you like. It also depends on what your cutting, thick or thin. The last blades I bought was some Pegas Modified Geometry Blades. These are great for cutting thick woods like 3/4". I cut a lot of stand up puzzles and they are all thick wood. I have all kinds of blades and some of them I will never use. I know this really want help you a lot but it's the best I can do.
  6. Welcome Dr. Jeff. Show us some of your work when you complete it.
  7. Ron I got to make me some toys. Those you made are so nice.
  8. Jeff you are hooked now. I hope you enjoy your new saw. Now we need to see some pictures of your work.
  9. Dick any and all help is needed and wanted.
  10. Al I have the same problem you do. I just don't have the strength in my hands I use to so this is what I bought. It's a Mac Mop. I still have to use my orbital sander but not as much. http://www.woodworkingshop.com/search.aspx?q=spindle+mounted+Mac+Mop+7%22+X+2%22
  11. Lucky you! I would love to have a drum sander.
  12. Shhhhhhhhhhhh! So far I have not received any emails.
  13. I ordered and used the MGT Pegas blades. Yesterday I cut a dog puzzle and they made a real difference. They made me a better scroller and that is no lie. They make it a lot easier to stay on line and also it's easier to back out of a cut. I can now cut and be more relaxed. I can talk all day long but until you try them you will not know.
  14. If it's not cupping much and people don't complain about it maybe you should not worry about it. I do know something like that bugs the heck out of a person. It does me that is for sure. The only thing I can think of is to use a thicker ply for your backer board. I think that would help.
  15. On the EX table there are those holes that is supposed to be for dust control. I don't use the dust control because of the noise and small pieces getting trapped. I want to close all those dust control holes. I like DW's idea of using plexiglass.
  16. I am not concerned with the zero clearance so much as I am concerned about small pieces and dust falling down.
  17. I have been think of putting a zero clearance top on my scroll for several weeks. I think it might be nice to keep most small pieces of scrap and dust from falling through. What in your opinion would be the down side to doing this?
  18. If you are cutting bigger sheets of ply into smaller pieces so you can put patterns on them a Japanese pull saw would be a good choice. I have two of them and they are great to have when you need them. I don't use them often because I have power tools. If you have power tools like a table saw, jig saw, band saw, or other saws they would be easier and quicker to use but a hand saw will be just fine.
  19. I agree they could be lost or misplaced very easy. Maybe paint them a bright color like red, yellow, or blue.
  20. Well I think it's a good tip. This tip isn't my idea so I didn't want y'all to think O was that smart. Putting the 5" sanding disc on my sander and getting the holes line up is a pain. I like my holes to line up pretty good so it will get as much of the dust sucked up my my shop vac. What I found on the net was to cut two pieces of 3/8" dowel rod about 2" long. Be sure and round one of the ends so the sanding disc will be easy to get started but not the other end. Now insert the two dowels in opposite holes in your sanders pad. I am going to stain or paint my dowels so they will be easier to keep up with. Here is a picture.
  21. Great work Doc. I have not heard of paper cutting.
  22. I like the color variation. In the Peterson books they do a lot with heart and sap wood combined. The walnut I buy is washed and I really don't like it. I don't think I will buy any more walnut from them. The walnut I bought about three weeks ago was $5.35 a board foot so you did get a great deal. That dragon looks real good.
  23. Well done Bobby. I thought maybe the last one was a selfie.
  24. Still the hobby of wood working cost a lot of money. I think a lot of people do more than scrolling, I know I do. I will be scrolling and get tired of doing that and go work on another project so scrolling isn't the only thing I spend money on. I accepted the fact a long time ago that any hobby you have cost a lot of money. PS - I don't sell any thing. It seems like every time I complete a project there are several grubby hands there to get it.
  25. Bernd I have got one of those and I have been afraid to try it. Maybe I need to try it again.
