  1. Stunning!
  2. Well heck! I used to live off Holden Rd in Youngsville. SSV is a great source anything involving scrolling. Members gladly offer up a lot of helpful information and ideas. Welcome aboard!
  3. I watch the Motor trend network and and have seen a lot of recreations. There are several Boat Tail Auburns and Duesenbergs. It would be great to see this car recreated. Could be that Ford bought Ghia and there would be a question on diminishing the value of the existing 2 cars. They last sold for $1.4 mil.
  4. Welcome to the village from the upstate of SC. Lots of great info and ideas in this group. Look forward to seeing your work.
  5. I never really use this word, but the first time I saw this car, I was enthralled! It has an interesting history. The car has a 1953 Model 62 Cadillac chassis and the body was designed and built by custom coach builder, Ghia of Italy. It had a V-8 390 ci engine and weight over 4,400 lbs! The most interesting part is that only two were made and one belonged to the actress, Rita Hayworth. There are assorted articles and photos online about this car. As usual, the design took longer that the cutting. I did have to do some design changes on the fly while cutting and painted in the bridges on the tires and headlight enclosure. The Caddy emblem on the hood was getting a little fragile, so I took out some of the cuts. It was a fun and challenging cut. On to another project.
  6. Greetings from the "Upstate" of South Carolina. Your projects came out very nice. A good saw and the right blades can make all the difference. I could expect that by Christmas, you'll be making swiboggens and pyramids. Great gifts! Keep making saw dust and having fun!
  7. Ah! Space, no matter how much you have, you can always use more. Good to hear you can find what you need. I understand Malta is a small island but many great craftsmen, especially you!
  8. You mentioned a few different types of wood you work with. How available are woodworking supplies where you live?
  9. Absolutely stunning, especially using a fret saw. I've done a few portraits and the two hardest things to get right are the "light of eye" and HAIR! I imagine shaving is out of the question but have you ever considered combining pyrography with scroll saw?
  10. I really like the detail of the cut and the background color is outstanding. Another great job!
  11. I am overwhelmed by all your kind comments and likes for this project. I like to do things that are a challenge and until I figured out the correct angle and direction of the cuts, it was a challenge. I will say that enough coats of black lacquer will cover a multitude of screw ups. Even screwing up the black lacquer can be fixed with more coats of black lacquer (and make it look better) Thanks again. On to the next project.
  12. Impressive work. The wood colors POP!
  13. Sorry, sometimes I have a problem "splaining" things. Lucy says I should ask Ricky how I did that. It may have been before cocktail hour before I wrote that down. LOL!
  14. I thought I would try something different. I made my standard joint box but I wanted to do a angle cut pattern on the sides. I did a 4 degree cut on 1/2 poplar with a #2 skip tooth blade. I did a test piece to make sure I was going in the right direction. I marked all the cutouts to get them in the right place. I always made sure the base of the blade was pointed toward the inside of the waste part of the cut. I actually didn't screw it up! Then I cut the outside in the opposite direction and glued and reinserted the inside pieces. I cut off the extrusions with a bandsaw and sanded flush in the inside. Once I looked at what I had done, I realized that the relief height was 1/8"!?!?. Well I did learn something but decided to just scroll out the top pattern and just glued it on top. Finish was black lacquer and antique gold acrylic on the pattern. I guess , if you don't try, you don't know. Still happy with the box.
  15. Very unique boxes. Like how they open.
  16. That is an absolute knockout! Even the grain of the wood adds texture to the background snow.
  17. My Prowler "rest of the story" moment (Paul Harvey) My neighbor had just come back from work and I stopped by and gave him the Prowler Plaque. He was totally surprised and really appreciated it. We started talking about other cars and he had just finished getting a '68 Camaro working and had just sold it but he was going back to working on his '34 Ford he keeps at his warehouse. Need to find out if it's a coupe or cabriolet. I've cut a '36 cabriolet before. Oh well, more sawdust.
  18. Great job on the cutting and like the background you added.
  19. Hope the rain tamps down the smoke. I was not familiar with the term Billy Cart and had to look it up. Here is a picture of the original.
  20. When I did my Hampelmann puppets. I needed to flip the image to glue on the back side. I opened the file in Windows 10 file viewer and right click in image. There is a pull down tab in the middle right and "Edit, Create" is the option. Select, and Edit comes up. On the far right of the screen is another menu with the title Crop, Rotate. Below that are 2 choices, Rotate and Flip. The flip will mirror, reverse the image. Hope that helps.
  21. A little back story on the Prowler https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Prowler Marg, Hope you are not being too affect by all the fires. Lots of news here in the states about what's going on there, especially the animals.
  22. Look beneath the 2 lights mounted in the bumpers. Used a REAL small brush.
  23. My neighbor has a 1999 Prowler. He almost never drives it but I needed a quick project to cut and he will get it when I put a finish on it. (we are getting rain and fog for the next 4 days) tried a new trick to cover over the bridges. Had to add bridges for the lights mounted in the front bumpers and they make it looks like legs. Decided to paint them the same black paint as the backing and it covered over them very well. Didn't do the same for the tire bridges since they were not that distracting. Has anyone else tried this technique? Back to making boxes again.
  24. I bought mine when I bought my EX16 at Woodcraft. It looks like they have discontinued it at the store and can't find the name anymore. It works well but since the lights are on the sides, I do get some shadow some times. Did not used the mounting clamp (bench too thick) Drilled matching hole and mounted to bench.
  25. Welcome to SSV. Your work looks great. Like you, I started scrolling after I retired and always have some sort of project going on. I am on the other side of Greenville from you. Maybe some day we can meet in the middle and talk about scrolling.
