    Always thought the Auburn 851/2 Boattail Speedster was an impressive looking car. The car was not in production for very long but because the design was so unique many reproductions were made in the '70's. I did my pixel pecking on MS paint 3 again and it took several days. The cutting took about 3 days since I only have one good eye until the other one is done next week. (FYI, there is a difference in both contrast and color. Undone eye has a more brownish tint like wearing brown sunglasses) Material was 1/8" BB with 1/4" backer. 17" x 10.5", Shellac/lacquer finish. I'll be holding off on any project until a week after my 2nd cataract eye surgery. Car, airplane, portrait or box, not sure yet.

    Dick, you did a phenomenal job. I am totally impressed with the Mitchell text. I'm looking forward to what you do next. When my eyes are done, I'll be starting an Auburn Boattail.

    I do tend to cut in either direction but as mentioned before, it depends on the pattern. I do favor the waste side so I can revisit the cut is I am slightly off the line. I have also noticed that blades are more aggressive on one side than the other and the aggressive side will follow the line better.

    Another project for my B-I-L. His dad used to fly a B-25 in WWII. He set up a memorial stand with a folded flag and pictures. Cutting went fast, design, not so fast. Had to go to the copy store twice since the first one was too small. 19.5" x 12" final size. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Time to give my eyes a rest for a while.

    Thanks Dick, Need to get the B-25 done before Thursday. Analysis then and surgery probably the next week. I should have it finished by late tomorrow. I'll post.

    With winter dragging on, I needed to do a beach scene to remind me of warmer weather. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Finish, shellac and lacquer. Back to aircraft, a B-25. Need to get it done before my cataract surgery in a few weeks.

    Back in the day, I used a lot of aviation bits. They were longer than usual. Because they were cheap, we would ground them down to fit the job.     BTW, Things can get pretty floppy with all the cutouts. Stick them back in and blue tape them back in place and orbital sand them from the back... No fuzz when done. I contact spray the back of the cutting, and a bead of CA glue on the edges {and small weak parts} and mount on the painted (acrylic) backing. I have 2 Pieces of tempered glass and wedge together with some 15# weights and let it dry for a while. All good!

    It's a nice pattern but it takes time. 2 days of cutting. ( it was cold in the garage) It's worth ordering. Oh yeah, Lots of blade changes but the pine branches were a pain. I'm better on straight lines.!

    Finished the Alex Fox pattern of Barn and Pickup for my B-I-L. He should get it in a few days. The pickup and Barn cutting was not too bad but the blade pulls for the bushes and the meandering lines for the pine trees got to be a little tedious. Lots of traveling with the blade(s). I used a 2.0 puzzle blade and went through 8 to finish. They are very fine and wear out pretty fast but I can make some sharp turns. 10.5 x 14 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Shellac/Lacquer finish.

    It may be also possible that the amount of bite the blade takes may be too aggressive. Looking at the side of the blade mounted, the angle from top to bottom may not be close to perpendicular and takes too much of a bite. I have an EX-16 and by rotating the motor, this bite angle can be adjusted. I tend to use smaller skip tooth blades. Larger blades have larger gullets to move the sawdust and can cause jumping. Worth looking into. All the preceding suggestions are spot on.

    Dick, You are very welcome and you did an amazing job. I definitely enjoy cutting more than than the designing. I am new to designing and use an old program MS 3D paint that has lots of limitations. I'm a nit-noid for trying to get all the lines clean and straight and gobbling pixels. Some day I'll stretch my brain to get into inkscape or another program. I've been cutting for about 5 years now and have learned, when working with established pattern, the lines are guidelines, not fixed rules. If its too scary or doesn't make sense, plan your own path. I've kind of shied away from aircraft recently just because I didn't want to go into overload and recently bought the Alex Fox Pattern of the barn and pickup just to enjoy the cutting. My patterns of the TBM and Gulfhawk were the most complicated and I need to make things simpler. I'm nuts for the classic/historic aircraft and will probably jump into it again soon. Dick, I look forward to seeing the other cuttings. You did a great job!

    That is really nice! An interesting addition would be to add a G clef with the adjoining notes above the keys or notes to your favorite song. A great trick question for visitors (that can read music) I like it!

    Watching Bush 41's funeral inspired me to design and cut his Grumman Avenger TBM. Lots of very fine lines and rather than trying to recreate the prop blades, I had to make a ellipse sweep of the blade arc. The canopy was tough with all the intersecting frames. I did have to deviate from my original pattern in some areas to create more bridges. Lots of blue tape to hold it all together. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer. Shellac/lacquer finish. Time to put the airplanes in the hangar for a while.

    Yeah, I was one too. Went to A&P after the AF and worked on Corp. Jets. My old Chief of Maint. got his pilots licence in 1930. Lots of great stories of Old time Teterboro. Met Earhart and flew DC-3'a over the hump in WWII. Working on a TBM right now. Cockpit canopy is tough. Lots of intersecting lines. BTW that painting looks great. Need to paint yellow tips on the prop.

    Back to doing Aircraft again (Lawson's taunt!) Always liked the Corsair. Aircraft went through lots of variations like regular canopy and bubble canopy and 3 and 4 bladed props. It was still being used by several countries into the early '50's. Cut on 1/8 BB with 1/4" backer. The design and lines are very thin and cowl flaps had me a little perplexed. It would have been tough to connect all the lines. Lettering went quick. Not sure what's next. They are predicting heavy snow in the upstate of SC this weekend so the car will go into the garage and I'll be out of the shop. Time to start hunting for some new patterns to cut.

    Back to aircraft again. Germans called it the Forked Tail Devil. It flew like hell at 443 kts top speed. I did a lot of pixel gobbling to get the design right and the lines are very thin. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" PW and 2 coats Shellac and ? coats lacquer. Love the old birds.
