  1. Carl I have 2 hawks a 26 and a 20. I've been scrolling since 96 time for something different for a while. The Laguna I bought is a midi not full size. I'm like you hoping to do both when I retire next spring.
  2. Always wanted to try my hand at the lathe so I bought a Laguna 1216 a week ago. As soon as I finish the Apostle clock I'm working on I'm going to try my hand at bowls and pens on the lathe. I will post pictures of the clock when I'm done with it. Heres a picture of it almost done. Just have the 3 towers on top and some trim to put on it and its done.
  3. Did you try it without the foot pedal? Maybe the foot pedal is going bad. Just a thought.
  4. I have had my 226vs for 24 years. Never had that problem. Could be the variable speed controller is going bad. You could try calling Bushton and see what they say. They have been answering my emails within a day.
  5. Thanks for your opinion on the saw Kevin.
  6. How do you like the BM 226 by now?
  7. I bought my 226 ultra in July of 1996 brand new and its serial number is 5???.
  8. I would assume the 226 and 220 had different serial number ranges.
  9. No it's the square style blade holders. All size blades from #2 To 12 I emailed Bushton with the serial number and they got right back to me. It was made in 1999 so it was older than I thought. I don't think it has had much use though.
  10. Heres a couple of pictures all cleaned up. It's not an RBI Hawk it just says Hawk on it so I'm assuming its it's not that old. Serial number 36774. I did some cutting on it and it is very smooth throughout the speed range once I got everything tightened up and level. It came with a foot switch so I thought I would try it. It will take some getting use too but I kinda liked it.
  11. I already have a 226 ultra my wife wants to learn so I bought this 220 for her
  12. I found this slightly used 10 year old 220vs Ultra on Facebook market place about 1 1/2 hours from me. Went and looked at it today and it followed me home. Got it for 300 dollars. Will post pictures when I get it cleaned up. It was really dirty from sitting but everything worked fine. Got about 10 dozen blades too.
  13. I have never used a foot switch and probably never will. I mounted a light switch on the front leg of my Hawk right by my right knee when I'm sitting. All I do is drop my right hand to my knee and the switch is right there. I never liked where rbi mounted the on off switch. It's too far back for me when sitting.
  14. I tried the aggressive position one time on my 226 vs ultra didn't care for the way it cut.
  15. I've had mine for 24 years 226vs. Bought it brand new in 96. It's been a good saw and its had a lot of use. The notch is starting to show some wear. The only thing I have had to replace on it was the spring that holds the arm up. I would like to get a new Hawk but am a little leery of Bushton and their customer service right now.
  16. I knew when I posted this that Wylie and the Roadrunner would be mentioned somewhere along the line.
  17. I'm going to be in the market for a lathe in the next few months so I think I will check them out.
  18. Anyone had any dealings with them? They have a store about 2 hours from me.
  19. We had an old card table that the top was bad on so I made a new top for it. The top was too big for my scrollsaw so the wife drew a football around Herky and I cut it out with a jigsaw and then cut Herky out on the scrollsaw then painted and glued back in place. Gonna give it to our son he's a big Iowa Hawkeye fan.
  20. Yes I found that out too.
  21. Every blade I have ever used I've had to angle the wood when cutting I never thought about holding the wood straight to cut it. I will have to try the Pegas again and see what happens.
  22. Everyone been talking about Pegas and Flying Dutchman blades so I thought I would give them a shot. I tried pegas no 5 modified geometry and FD reverse no 5. I like the FD a lot. They lasted longer than my Eberly blades that I have been using. The Pegas blades I did not care for. It's like they had a mind of their own. I couldn't cut a straight line to save my soul. I tried different tension and everything I could think of. I'm cutting 1/2 plywood. In a related question has anyone ever heard of blonde wood plywood? I got this 2x4 sheet from Lowes and that's what the sticker on the back said on it. It has a lot of layers and is white in color. It's not Baltic birch. It did have some small voids in it. Thanks Dale
  23. Heres what I've been making the last couple of weeks. Wife wanted an electric fireplace so I built this for her. The 2 bookcases were the tops off of the entertainment center I took out and repurposed them.
  24. Does the ShopFox resaw okay? Resawing is the main reason I want to get a bandsaw.
  25. Anyone have an opinion on a Jet bandsaw?
