  2. that is awesome Canuck 45! wonderful work!
  3. awesome work and how appropriate for Atikokan! Quetico provincial park is a paddlers heaven! Spent many a weekends paddling both kayaks and canoes on the water there
  4. stunning, I only have a mini lathe so this type of stuff is too big for my tools at the moment...I do however make use of what is in my cut off box, mostly I make jewellery with it but this is giving me a couple ideas.. oh yes and that was only one f my cut off boxes, there are a few other ones but they are much much smaller and more for the really exotic woods...
  5. that is gorgeous, I would not be concerned about the difference bet the top and bottom, just shave the left side a bit... how thick? I love the painters tape, when I see good deals on it I just buy loads of it.....
  6. Was realizing last night that i need to do some spring cleaning in my garage soon and I thought you folks would like to see this box of cut offs from my scroll saw projects. Please note that I placed a meter stick along the ledge and from top to bottom so you can see it's a full size trunk. Lots of work to do....I think I may have a problem... Lol Did not know where to post it but thought it would be fun to post here with the hope of others sharing photos and brag of thier scrap wood piles just for kicks. Curious to see Kevins pic...
  7. Aka, Brazilian redwood, it's in the wood database website. 95% of the wood I use is free and recycled from flooring, furniture etc. I found this at a habitat for humanity store, one box of hardwood flooring, it was 15$. The pic is what it looked like before u cut it up and used it in its entirety for this piece
  8. My son was going to his friends birthday party today and the boy is a fanatic of ninjago which is themed Lego for those that don't know. Cut this for the bday boy and he was ecstatic! Cut from Asian acacia engineered flooring sample
  9. I cut this a few weeks ago in another wood, it's Neptune's pattern, thanks again. I thought it would look extraordinary in bulletwood, which is dark and extremely hard and heavy.
  10. Japanese Cherry, in the thread title...really surprised the wood worked as well as it did cause its grainy and dense
  11. Yes it seems beard Combs are similar, lots of them on Pinterest to check out should you wish
  12. That is nice Barb, what wood is that? I just made a combination of a comb/pik today, its posted on the board, japanese cherry..
  13. So I made this today it's not only beautiful but it works incredibly well with my thick curly hair. It's crazy strong too...
  14. Good job on that logo, i have visited Hearst for hockey tournaments a few times as a youngster. I grew up on thunder bay
  15. I can see why they were blown away, they are great you did a fabulous job!
  16. thanks folks! think I am going to try one out of brazillian redwood AKA bulleted, that shit is so hard it won't matter what way the grain is going...being that I use 99% of wood that is being repurposed I rarely have access to wood with grain going the way it needs to be to accommodate the length of a comb... also going to try a hair pik....
  17. the cutting boards are not so bad to cut, same can't be said for Bamboo flooring, that shit is like concrete. I have done some things with them but not too much
  18. is this a chronic thing Kevin or an acute issue? if its chronic there are really good tools out there in the occupation therapy world that can allow you to put socks and shoes on with dignity.... let me know if you want more information. hope things get better for ya
  19. So here are the updates on these two., pics aren't great...
  20. impressive, how thick is the Jesus wood?
  21. I split one in two and have framed one in torrified maple and the other in western red cedar. I think these will be pretty neat when done
  22. Here you go Kevin
  23. Been meaning to do this for a long time, this is originally a Steve good pattern but I altered it to fit the piece of wood that was the correct thickness, stack cut two. If you did not know using a wooden comb apparently has benefits for the scalp and hair. This was a trial and with the grain going in the wrong direction but IMO it still strong enough. Going to try another wood and with the right direction... It feels great on the scalp....
  24. Ha, ha, took some of the other samples apart that had what looked like led/graphite? in them. Some were led, looks like I am going to try and make some pencils.... I tried a piece on wood and paper and writes. Update, So I googled pencil led and it apparently is mix of graphite and clay....
  25. So my neighbour works at an engineering firm and they have tonnes of samples and they were moving last week, he brought over tonnes of wood/door/beam samples. I didn't know what I would do with the door samples as they are not solid inside. I thought the pattern inside was an intriguing color combo and pattern and thought it may make a neat bracelet. It does, this was my first, next one I will make thinner and mount darker sides to it. This one is the actual width and outdoor cover as the door samples itself
