  1. ya I thought it was birch as well but I have worked with birch quite a bit in the past and this seems much softer but who knows. Thanks!
  2. well done!
  3. Excellent work, love that pattern
  4. Ha ha to much stuff, that can't be all you have is it? If so that's nothing... I took a quick count of my stuff on hand. 80+ wall mounted framed pieces, 120+ exotic wood pendants, 80 or so earrings, 28 exotic wood bracelets, 80 or so rings and 30 exotic belt buckles.... I am obsessed with making stuff out of recycled materials... Bye the way I love the red wings logo you did an exceptional job on it, I Have had that on my to do list for a very long time...
  5. when you cut it Kevin is there a "spicy", perfume scent to it?
  6. its not honduran mahogany for sure. I have some of that stuff and its completely different and Kevin your right it is pretty soft. Here is a pic of honduran mahogany...
  7. hard to tell with the finish on it and the part is not finished is rough and not flat so again tough to tell. The larger kind of spots or grain in the first pic make me believe that it is not a mahogany at all or even a related species to mahogany. Check out the link below for great information about mahogany. The wood database is also a great place to go and search for identity of spieces. a good end grain pic would help love that keyboard Kevin! http://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/mahogany-mixups-the-lowdown/
  8. thanks folks! I am not done with this pattern, I am planning on doing it again but just differently...
  9. Ya that sucks, I have been fooled a few times but now I have really considered weight into the occasion if the person does not want me test it with a leatherman....be damned with the MDF and particle board...
  10. Huh, so it kinda is like intarsia then but your not sanding down the edges or anything...Not sure I completely understand but in any case its not likely something that I would pursue doing as I am not sure I have the skill or patience.... for now I will just look, enjoy and be awestruck with your work, its quite spectacular, I hope you sell your work cause you should
  11. This is Neptune's pattern, the moment I saw it I knew I would cut it. It's simple, thought provoking and elegant at the same time, at least I think so. This is cut from old flooring, frame in cherry. It's more challenging to cut thank it looks. Thanks Neptune! Brilliant pattern
  12. Cut this one out of an old end table, not sure if the Spieces of wood but it turned out great, it's fragile however until you get it mounted. A large chunk of the face of only held on by like 1/8 of an inch. Framed with cherry from an old entertainment unit. It's about 28" x 20".
  13. welcome!
  14. welcome aboard and back to a really great hobby!
  15. its spectacular, if you are painting the pieces before before assembly does that mean you tape off all those little details and spray paint? if so that must be tricky... or is it intarsia?
  16. I am sure that would work but not likely necessary if she wants it gone, I do sometimes make custom pieces for people that give my wood.
  17. that is thoughtful of you Kevin, nice cutting. sorry to hear about any potential health problems.
  18. nice work! love that, I must do some more intarsia....
  19. thanks folks, the pattern by neptune really is a good one. This was very tricky to cut given the material, all in all it was really fun
  20. For my son's room, all from repurposed wood.
  21. So Neptune posted this pattern awhile back in the new pattern thread. I loved it the moment I saw it. Here is what l did with it. Asian acacia engineered flooring sample, backed by a babies crib board, framed with a babies crib frame. Love the pattern, also love how this turned out. Thanks Neptune! It's heavy!!!!

  24. oh man I am not sure, I was asked to cut a Budha face for a friend and I searched the web like mad, I came up with about a dozen, some full chubby budhas, silhouette Budhas in a circle, just heads of buddha's and on and on. I do think it was Pinterest that was were I found most of them. including this one I believe.
