  1. so as it turns out I go there and he shows it to me and it works great, didn't have a filter but that is not a big deal. I end up settling on a price slightly lower than asking and he said what do you need it for. I say I am an avid scroll saw guy and wood worker in general, he says can I see pictures of your work. I show him stuff and he says my wife would love that and that....I said well if you give me my money back you can have either one of those.... guy reaches back in his wallet and gives my money back to me. I like trades... This thing works really well the only trick is that I have to get a filter that fits or simply make sleeves for a larger size filter to fit on the outside. I think this is going to help out a lot but the floor space is at a premium so I will have to utilize it such a way to optimize space so I am going to mount a tool on it, perhaps my grinder which occupies a valuable space in my garage but barley ever gets used by me...
  2. So here is what I ended up doing to finish the Vegas golden Knight. It's a scarf holder that I got a bunch of when a store was closing. My son and I both thought it looked close enough to pass as a knights shield. He loves it, u ink it turned out great
  3. https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/pml/tls/d/dust-filter/6313489522.html gonna go look at this home made dust filter tonight. anyone have one of made one on their own? the guy says that it catches ambient air and filters it through the blower fan and out. In the pic the guy states that the square hole that you can see on the outside of the unit is where you change the filter, its on the outside wall. thoughts? I am planning to use this in addition to getting a dust collector system or some of the other products that I see you folks talking about here (fein and dust devil). The issue I have is that I have so many tools that create the dust and not all of them have dust collection ports and even the ones that do are not getting all the dust into the two shop vacs that I have to hook up to various tools. Just getting tired of the dust and I know its not good for my health even though I wear a half mask when operating the equipment. I am getting a new excelsior 30 inch saw this week and it does have a port. thanks in advance
  4. I have used free Ash quite a lot. Its hard and what a good number of baseball bats are made from, really cool grain for the most part. It does dull blades fairly quickly.
  5. Thinner only cause the wood was scrap that was already thin. Envirotex finish like 50 coats if varnish
  6. Hond mahogany and Doug fir, about 1/4 inch thick cause they are both light weight woods
  7. Dave, I make loads of earnings and the lady's love them. As others have mentioned Weight is the key here to think about with thickness. I generally use hardwoods when making wood earnings. I will finish them with wipe on or spray poly. For the wow factor with some wood (and other materials) earnings though I use modge podge dimensional magic or envirotex lite to give them a real cool look. Will post a pic or two for comparison
  8. that is worth the effort always I say.Well done Kevin
  9. Penguin and newfie, he is a character in Star Wars Thanks folks for the nice comments.
  10. that is really awesome, I say that cause of the skill required to cut but also the fact that the elephant is kinda hidden in the sense that its not flat out obvious with a elephant with outlines and the like but rather a TONNE of small little cuts that actually make the outline. Spectacular I say and perhaps some day I will aspire to cut such a pattern...
  11. love the wheels
  12. thanks!
  13. Finally got around to finishing this dude that I cut weeks ago. Cut from old oak flooring, mounted on a dresser drawer backing and framed with old oak kitchen cabinet doors
  14. that is s neat piece, I love trees that turn into people...
  15. that is pretty cool, like Paul I think i am going to get over to steve goods site for that pattern, love the silhouttes in the front, I do think I would modify it slightly to include separation in between the neck of the cello and the cello player to shed a bit of light through. Scrolling is an addictive hobby so enjoy!!
  16. well done with that cut
  17. goargous, great scene and great cutting, did you use a spiral blade for grass/weeds?
  18. Ya the flooring samples are really cool for the backing although they do chip a bit when cut on the table saw even with tape applied. I am running low on it though...need to find another flooring company going tits up...
  19. thanks, I don't find it so difficult, it just takes a bit longer but I cut this in about 20 mins. Son put a coat of tung oil on it last night and it looks of coarse even better.
  20. Stunning!
  21. Ya that is where I got the idea to cut this
  22. Not so bad that is why I cut it from one inch oak. Once mounted it will be fine. Thanks, it's a fun cut this one fairly quick also
  23. that is awe inspiring....must try one of these crazy delicate patterns some day
  24. wow gorgeous work, quite a duo you two are. they both look wicked painted IMO but the winner is the reaper for me and yes do frame it...The viking is real awesome as well. Great cutting and great painting
