  1. This will probably wind up very confusing but I'll do my best to explain. The original idea I got from a man named John Shutz. His patterns were for bandsaw. The first picture shows four different sized patterns that I drew. Mine range from around 4 inches tall to 11 inches tall. They are simple to draw but notice the branches or boughs alternate from side to side rather that being even. The patterns are folded down the midde as in picture 2. I put mine on a Little Debbie Christmas Tree box. It's festive and has already has a crease. Put the pattern on one corner of the appropriate sized piece of square wood and trace the pattern onto the wood as in pictures 3 and 4. You will need to do this on 4 identical pieces of wood. Cut whichever side you prefer first. Picture 5. You can tape the pieces back together as you would with a compound cut for making the second cut, picture 6. Or I prefer to take it apart and cut it as shown in picture 7. It's a little more tedious holding it but cuts much easier/quicker. After the second cut you should have something like picture 8. Repeat the process on the remaining 3 pieces. With 4 pieces done it is time to glue. I try to put glue along the 90 degree corner of the piece, picture 9, without getting in onto the branches as some of this will be exposed after gluing the pieces together. Put the pieces together as shown in picture 10 and wrap rubber bands around them. If needed add a clamp or two, picture 11. After drying a half hour or so I remove the clamps and rubber bands, sand as needed and finish.
  2. I love how you did that Timothy. The rough cut lumber is fitting. Nice job!
  3. Thanks. No. I found a clip art image and added the 52.
  4. My father-in-law passed away last December. Among many other good things he was an awesome dirt track racer. His car was #52, and my children and grandchildren have all used 52 on their sports jerseys. I made this ornament for my wife along with 5 others for kids and grandkids. After going over names with my wife and daughter this morning I’ve got 6 more to go. Sometimes an idea can be too good.
  5. That looks great!
  6. There is a Tractor Supply store near me. The big zero turn mowers come in on really big hardwood pallets. It's usually mystery wood but sometimes it's oak. I don't imagine it's kiln dried but for something like this I'll take a chance on it warping. My favorite thing about it is the cost.
  7. My wife spotted a Nativity she liked at Hobby Lobby and requested I build one. I found a large oak pallet with some nice color variation to build it with. It's about 2' X2' and will go on our entertainment center. They cost $20 at Hobby Lobby so I don't plan to go into competition with them.
  8. Very nice work on everything!
  9. Nice job and Happy Holidays!
  10. My daughter moved houses a couple of months back. I saw an idea similar to this online. I shrunk it and added the tree and the wreath. Feliz Navidad!
  11. Exactly. I'm hoping they will last a while and one or two of my grandkids have a talent for breaking things. Plus they do pick up the lights nicely.
  12. Those are cute, and yes it is addictive.
  13. Great job. I need to turn the reader into a girl and cut it for my daughter.
  14. Those are great. I never thought about making outdoor ornaments.
  15. My wife found an idea on the internet for ornaments for our five 6-9 year old grandkids. I copied their idea and added the plexiglass backers and snow on individual names and date. I like them but it would have been easier to let her order them.
  16. I took my kids to the drive-in to see Muppet Christmas Carol about 30 years ago. We all get together and watch it every year. Tonight was the night this year so I cut two of these to give my two oldest who've given me 5 grandkids. I hope they're still watching it 30 years from now and still have these cuttings to remember tonight. The pattern is in the library.
  17. Thanks. Yes, I used acrylic and sanded it to distress it a bit to match the look of the rest of it.
  18. Great job. I love the kayak idea.
  19. Your vehicles are always fun to look at. You do such a great job with them. They're all great, but the little boy in me loves the firetrucks.
  20. Thank you! This was a rough cut board so it was fun watching it come through the planer with all the variations in color. Wish I had a ton of it.
  21. I can see how it might not be as popular outside the USA. I'm impressed that you recognized it though. His song, Vincent aka Starry Night is my favorite.
  22. Thank you! I love this song but his song, Vincent, about Vincent Van Gogh is one of my all time favorites.
  23. I’m sure you’ve heard the song Bye Bye Miss American Pie. This is the picture on the cover of the album with that song.
  24. Been planning to cut this since, "a long, long time ago." If you know, you know.
