  1. Thank you! I do prefer using thicker wood.
  2. I hate that you had to leave your guitar. I had two guitars, one that I sold and one that I gave to a nephew, that I so wish I had back. I play some guitar but I'm not a "guitarist." My best memories of playing are from Guatemala. I used to go to an orphanage there to work for a week a couple of times a year. I learned a lot of Hispanic worship music and would sit in the evenings with some of the children from the home and sing. Priceless. I do think that the next best thing to being a gifted musician though is having a deep appreciation for good music. I've known many people who just don't get it and to me that's like missing one of your senses. Sad.
  3. Thank you. I made some changes, but of course it’s Sam Custodio pattern. I’ll message you a copy of what I used.
  4. I still piddle with mine sporadically but I’ve been trying to learn the finger picking part of John Prine’s, How Lucky, and have spent 3 or 4 days on the first measure and still stumble through it. My niece’s husband is a gifted guitarist and says it’s just practice and not a gift. I don’t buy it.
  5. I tweaked a great pattern by Sam Custodio. I absolutely love good finger style guitar picking and have tried many times to attain the skill but it's just not in the cards for me. I listened to acoustic guitar music through my headphones while cutting this and it was so therapeutic. The wood is 1/2" Sycamore and the backer was a thin plywood bottom from a repurposed dresser drawer. "♫ Who draws the crowd and plays so loud? Baby it's the guitar man. ♫
  6. You're on another level, Dave. That's some fine art.
  7. Very nice work!
  8. Love this man's music! I got this wood from the drawers of a roadside discarded dresser. "Happy Enchilada" is sort of an inside John Prine Joke. If you're interested I posted a clip that explains it in the comments.
  9. Cool project! I’m in the over thinking club.
  10. That’s great! Makes me think of something I heard about Walt Disney. Taking an already good idea and making it better. He called it plussing.
  11. I think you did a great job with that pattern. My 2 cents is that I don't care for spirals at all for several reasons. I cut mostly hardwoods and I believe flat blades are better suited for that. As you mentioned spirals do leave more fuzzies and I don't like that. As you also mentioned, if you're using spirals you're not going to get a sharp inside corner. While I certainly don't cut perfectly, I am a perfectionist and I really like precision. Of course that's just my viewpoint and the best blade to use is the one you enjoy using.
  12. Looks good to me! Thanks for sharing. I’m so happy people enjoy the pattern. Sometimes simplicity is best. It’s what I liked about the original photo. Nice job!
  13. The kid in me wants to believe, but I sadly suspect he's a myth. Who knows.
  14. While I wasn't necessarily an "avid" Toby Keith fan, I did like several of his songs, especially one of his last, "Don't Let The Old Man In." I was really moved by what Stephen Colbert had to say about Toby after he died. If you'd like to see it I put the link in the first comment. Party in peace, Toby.
  15. Thanks Marg. I'm starting to think eveybody's been there but me.
  16. I love it! How awesome to be able to make things for our family that they’ll love now, plus that will keep us alive in their memories after we’re gone.
  17. Great job. Certainly doesn't look like a beginner.
  18. Beautiful and I like the arrow. The first time you made one I thought it would be fun to have up and play over a period of time so that's a great idea!
  19. Nice. Really love the spalted floating shelves.
  20. I'd like to tour it. I watched it again tonight, it'd been many years. I don't see how you stay sane in a cell that small.
  21. Probably the first movie to show me that I have absolutely no business in prison. If interested, the pattern is in the library.
  22. Very nice! I know she loved it.
