  1. Thanks! I had to consult my son about the right colors. I gave it to Amos this morning. He loved it and explained it is from Star Wars 3/Return of the Jedi because that's when Luke's lightsaber color changes from blue to green and because of how the Death Star looks.
  2. After two failed attempts at pouring resin, I cut this for the third time. This time in red oak. I opted to put a plexiglass cover on it rather than attempting another resin pour. It is a gift for my 5 year old grandson who has become a Star Wars fanatic. He watches with his dad, my son, who knows where the scary parts are and my sweet grandson covers up his eye till daddy says it's over. I love listening to him talk about Star Wars. He pronounces Luke, Wute, and he really likes The Umpire Strikes Back. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice about the resin pouring. Maybe I'll try again sometime. Maybe not.
  3. So, yesterday before I read any of these posts I cut it again, this time in pine. I put down a thin layer of resin and glued the fretwork inside the frame as @MarieC mentioned. All went well until I did the second pour about 4 hours later. As I said I hadn't read these posts yet and I did not seal the pine. Sure enough, after about 10-15 minutes, thousands of tiny, milky looking bubbles came from the pine. What I now know as off gassing. I started the third cutting today, out of my favorite wood to work with, red oak. While I think I might have better results after two miserable failures, I'm not going to use resin this time around. I'm sick of cutting this thing out and don't want to risk it. I cut a piece of plexiglass the shape of the frame and will cover it with that.
  4. You’re welcome. There’s lots of cool Star Wars stuff on there as well as other stuff.
  5. I nearly messaged you beforehand since your wedding piece turned out so nice. That method would have worked perfectly I believe.
  6. Thanks Rodney. I'm afraid this one is just a totally lost cause. I started over today but I'm not going to try the resin again.
  7. My 6 year old grandson has become a Star Wars fanatic so I cut this for him. It was going great but it had so many tiny parts, toothpick sized light sabers, I decided to do my second ever resin pouring to protect it. It looked beautiful for a few moments. Won't go into detail but hundreds of bubbles started coming out from under the layers just as it was heating up/hardening. Too late to use the heat gun again. I made a bigger mess pulling the top hardened layer off to see if anything was salvageable. Stuff's a nightmare to get off your hands. On the bright side I got the pattern for $2 from this site for paper cutting, Kricut machines that has tons of patterns similar to this that would make cool scroll saw projects. Some with several layers. https://lightboxgoodman.com/products/kirigami-star-wars-1-paper-cutting?variant=36701434249378&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjwpayjBhAnEiwA-7enayNJvEBM0RG4SdyNJlu2cKNhjTWIP2B7cobCu93gYazShLBlnG7EwRoC2kwQAvD_BwE
  8. Sycamore.
  9. I didn't know much about him except that he sang Cat's In The Cradle until recently. If you haven't heard this one, Mr. Tanner, it's worth a listen. Just a powerful, bloom where you're planted message, for me.
  10. Really nice work!
  11. Some of the saddest lyrics ever written. - "My child arrived just the other day. He came to the world in the usual way. But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay. He learned to walk while I was away." I read that the song, Cat's In The Cradle, is actually from a poem written by his wife. I just watched a documentary on Harry Chapin's life. He was an amazingly selfless guy with a passion to end world hunger. Like so many, he was taken too soon.
  12. The pattern is in the library under new patterns.
  13. I love that movie! I have it on blue ray. And Denzel is one of my favorites too. I have one of him on my wall already but I've thought about doing him from this movie to add to the cowboy section.
  14. Never heard of that one.
  15. Thank you!
  16. Nice job and I'm sure he'll love it!
  17. You’re very welcome.
  18. @MarieC Here's what it looks like as of today. I had a mishap a couple of weeks ago and knocked down one of my favorites, Frodo and Sam from Lord Of The Rings, and it shattered. My favorite art in the shop is the drawings by my grandkids.
  19. Thank you! No cowgirls yet. I noticed a couple of years ago when I had maybe 30 portraits total that they were all male and white. I corrected that and now have more diversity in race and gender. And yes, I did add him to the cowboy section.
  20. Gotta love a bad-eyed bad guy. Jack Elam took a pencil to the left eye when he was 11 leaving him blinded in that eye and causing it to drift off center, and likely changing the direction of his future as well. He appeared in many western movies, over 20 episodes of Gunsmoke, got shot down by little Joe Cartwright, and was a great comedic actor in movies like Hot Lead And Cold Feet. The portrait may not be perfect, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Thanks @MarieC for suggesting him. The pattern is in the library under new patterns if anyone is interested.
  21. Since you’re having trouble with your eyes, trust those of us who aren’t. This looks great! Really nice work. Hoping your surgery goes smoothly.
  22. Nice job! Plus you picked a great piece of wood for it. The colors are really cool. What kind of wood is it and what finish did you use?
  23. Very cute! I should have gnome they would be.
