  1. Made this for some friends, one of Steve's patterns. They wanted to be able to leave it hanging all year long, so I made the Snowman removeable. I don't have any clear on it in these pics,, the paper pattern is still on the Snowman even! Hey,, it's the right color! 1/2" BB, used a FD UR1
  2. I posted about this in the "Works in Progress" folder last week. I found some cool looking wood at Lowe's, 3/4" tongue and groove Pine that already has a blueish stain applied to it. I bought a few pieces and played around with them until I got this. Here is a pic with some blue LED's behind it. It looks much better in person than in the pic. I have already sold two more of these. I think they are pretty neat looking,, no two look alike. The below pic is one of the ones that is sold, with and without the lights on. Another one that I have cut out has 2 Palm trees on it that looks pretty neat too.
  3. I've been following along in this thread,,,hoping to learn how to do this. I've never wanted to smash my computer as much as I do right now! LOL
  4. Very nice! I like the top one a bit better. I haven't made any of these yet but would like to. Is there a pattern available for the top one?
  5. John Denver
  6. I have a Rockler and a Woodcraft about 25 miles from me. I buy most of my BB at Rockler.
  7. Brown, nice work.
  8. Nice work, looks really sharp!
  9. There ya go,, now it's popping! Nice!
  10. So I'm guessing some glue "here and there" holds it all together? Looks good.
  11. I finally had mine crack on me a few months ago. It was where it attaches to the saw, probable where they all break. I just removed the cracked part, heated up the next one with my heat gun and re-attached it. It has held up so far. People have posted links on here on where new ones can be bought. I may have to look into it soon.
  12. I like it! But did you make an exit door for the money? LOL
  13. I have my opinion on this, but I'll keep it to myself. But I would like to say this...that when George W. Bush was elected, I had never seen the type of disrespect for a sitting President as I did with him.. and it got worse with each President since and I am going to assume that it will just get worse with each one from here on out. I'm not saying which party I lean towards but I have shown respect for the "other" parties President since I have been old enough to know better. I have read two autobiographies from 2 Presidents, they both mentioned the same thing.. they don't have the power that most people think they have. It's not 1 man's fault nor should 1 man get all of the praise for things that happen. We as a nation must show respect, not just for the parties, but for each other, in everyday life. How often do you see someone pull out in front of someone on the road? 9 out of 10 times that going to lead to one of them giving the "International Sign". I've pulled out in front of people before, not on purpose, but because I didn't see them or thought I had more time,, I always give a "I'm sorry" type of wave. How many times do you see someone not use a turn signal? That's being disrespectful right there, not to mention dangerous. If you pulled out in front of someone with the buggy at a grocery store, I'm pretty sure that you would apologize to that person and not give them the finger. It's when we get behind the wheel of a car or in front of a keyboard that we become badasses and disrespectful. I hope in my next life I'm placed in Mayberry! LOL Ok, off my soapbox. I hope that I didn't break the rules of the site for saying my peace. I tried to stay non political or show disrespect so I think I'm alright with this.
  14. If anyone buys one of these LED bases,, don't cut out the pattern until you receive the base. Some bases have different length slots. Les seems to of found a good blade to use that doesn't require a wooden sandwich. I use a FD UR1 with 1/8" BB on both sides. One positive of using the BB on both sides is that you get two more decorations to hang, sit, mount somewhere. You may have to alter the bottom of the wooden cutouts, you probably don't want the "rectangle" left on them.
  15. I just saw this on the news last night. Another reason why I don't like Apple!
  16. Nice! I like the Santa a little better, his expression is that "HE" may have been a little naughty himself! I may have to get that pattern. I wanted to do another one this year on a wood slice like I did last year but with a different Santa. I would probably have to reduce it a little smaller to fit on the wood slice. This was my one from last year. I used red felt as the backer.
  17. Nice, I love using the torch on wood.
  18. I used a FD UR1 and had no issue with the acrylic melting back together. When I used an Olson #2 reverse it did slightly melt back together. I have a pattern for a Scarecrow that I will cut out, I'll use the FD again and see what happens.
  19. Did you use the same blade and same speed as your first cut? I know on all of the ones that I have made I have used a couple different blades with different results. If the acrylic fuses back together I just cut around it again. It goes much faster the second time as you have already "laid down the tracks"! LOL
  20. Looks good! I made another ghost and butterfly yesterday for a guy at work. I told him where to buy the LED base and if he bought the two pack and gave me one, I would make him the ghost and butterfly for free. I may have to try cutting one without the wood sandwich and see what happens.
  21. I printed out the pattern the day Steve released it,, hope I find time to cut it. Yours looks cool!
  22. When you take those clamps off, the concrete and water is going to be sent shooting straight up thru the ceiling. Really it will,,, I saw it happen in a cartoon once! LOL
  23. Very nice! Leave as is.... or a soaring Eagle in the top corner.
  24. Yes, I forgot to mention that I use blue tape. Acrylic or whatever material you have, sandwiched with 1/8" BB, then wrap the whole thing with tape and apply the pattern. I know others don't use tape, some use shelf paper, some don't use anything. Whatever works. I have 2 different Olson blades that says that they can be used for acrylic, but the last couple times that I cut it I have used a FD UR1 which worked great, next time I use an Olson #2 reverse and had to go around the pattern twice because it fused back together after I cut it.
  25. Good deal. I should probably order another one... or two.
