  1. I'm making one of these for my wife. Got it cut and ready to drill holes and bolt together. The HLVP idea is to paint it white. I think this project would take a long time to paint with an air brush. There are a lot of other projects that would be nice to use one on. Like the Cancer Ribbons I do, I don't really like the finish I get from a rattle can and an air brush might do a lot better job. I ordered a Critter yesterday and that should work for this project, I'll just have to try it to see what types of projects it works best for. I want to paint the deck this summer, and will need a full sized HLVP sprayer for that. But with other needs filled I can spend less on a gun for that and the very few projects of that size. At least that is the thought.
  2. After Ctutor said that I looked it up also! I remember hearing about them a year or so ago... but forgot. I ordered one from Amazon, should work good for a lot of things. Thanks Ctutor!
  3. What do you guys that spray stain or paint use? 1. Gravity feed air brush 2. Air brush that uses small bottles 3. Something like a Wagner Flexio 3000 HVLP type I want to spray some of my works in the future, but now I'm making a multi level plant stand for my wife. It's pine, from wood in the shop, so I'll use Minwax Pre Stain and spray American Walnut.
  4. Thank you Frank! Although they can be mounted on a framed backer, most people just hang them on the wall on a small picture nail. Les, they are about 9" wide and 7" tall. Thank you Marg! It takes me longer to do the paint work than the cutting! Spray 2-3 white base coats. Then get just the right touch of pink on the wings, also spray. If I goof...it's back to white then try again. Then the ribbon is hand painted acrylic in whatever color for the type of cancer. That is 2-3 coats. I use gloss on these, I think it shows it off nicely.
  5. I've got a couple of orders ready to go, and I haven't posted a picture in a while. So...here are 3 Breast Cancer ribbons and a Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome ( EDS ) ribbon. They are a Sue Mey pattern cut from 1/4" BB ply.
  6. My wife would love that one also. I've done several hummers already. Guess I'll have to put it on the list!
  7. I'm building a frame jig similar to yours. Got the base cut and the pieces ordered have all come in. Hope to get back to it in the next week. Also building a cross cut sled. It will be a little larger that the one I gave to the guy that bought my Kobalt saw. I'm using nylon runners this time, the wood ones on the last sled were always changing size. If I remember I'll put up a picture when I get it finished.
  8. I hear ya Kevin! My shop is a 18' x 30' x 9' metal building that I had put up shortly after we moved here ( between Joplin & Kansas City MO ) 3 yrs ago. That fall I got it spray foamed so my shop is an Igloo cooler! I first got a 24" barrel fan that worked pretty good most of the day. It gets direct sun in the morning, but big trees shade the whole building after about 1pm. Then last summer I got a 5,000 btu window A/C...because that's all that would fit in the 1 small window, but my scroll saw is set up close to the window and I can point it in my direction. And the cement floor helps in the summer...but sucks the heat in the winter. But...I don't have near enough heat! I have a 220v 5000 watt (about 17K btu) heater hanging, and have to put a patio heater in the middle to get it to warm in the cold winter months. We should be on the Mexican border in the winter...but when things like COVID happen and all the shows shut down I need heat here. The electric heater really cranks the bill up and a propane bottle, at $20 each, may last 2-3 days if I run it low and shut off when I can. I've thought about a mini-split system, or having a natural gas line run from the house and a "real" heater LOL. I thought maybe I could score a central heating unit from someone upgrading their house and stand it in the corner...hasn't happened yet. I can work if it's a little too hot, but I hate to be cold!!
  9. KG5WZI here
  10. Beautiful job Alex! I'm going to do this one. Probably get the C162 Cat also...too cute to pass up. Stay safe over there my friend.
  11. Awesome piece Les!! Maybe some day I'll try one of those... I've got to learn to slow down on fretwork. I get to cutting and keep trying to go faster because I want to see the finished work. Then it happens...a slip...lol. You created a beautiful piece, and I love the way it looks framed.
  12. Although I'm not as new as Joe...I'm still new to this obsession, I mean hobby. I was curious about scrolling and got a WEN in Aug. of 2019, and was very lucky to find this site right off. I loved making things and asked a ton of questions, thank you everyone for putting up with me. With the help of everyone here I moved up to a King 16" in Oct 2019 and have had a ball every since. During the city wide garage sale (held every spring) last weekend I put a few of my works on a table and sold a Mick Jagger portrait, 3 puzzles, a tissue box cover, and a couple of wall art pieces! We set up in my shop and had a ton of compliments on things I had on the table as well as a bunch of people took business cards. Luckily we sold most all the regular "garage sale" stuff...and I now have much more room in my shop! Although I'm in several FB pages this is "home" . The talent and skills of the folks here truly amaze me! I love having scroll "friends" all over the world. Although I am worried about Alex right now being right next to Crimea. He told me he was still safe a couple of weeks ago, but haven't heard from him since. I know... I'm just rambling on. But I feel like I'm talking with family here. Just hope you guys don't disown me...LOL.
  13. Jim, I thought you were one of the masters at patterns! I really like the ones you've done.
  14. Awesome piece Frank!! The details in the display make a fantastic cutting look even better!
  15. Even though it's an old topic it is still very interesting. Wonder what Iggy has to say about the Hawk after using it for a while. I watched a video by Bushton Mfg. and was impressed. Cuts 2 1/2"??? Wow! With all the other new equipment lately I can't afford one now...but maybe next year's upgrade. They are only about 280 miles from me, when I get serious I may go see them and get my hands on one.
  16. The first picture (the cat) is the very first thing I ever cut with a scroll saw. I had never done any woodwork using a pattern, I wasn't even sure how the scroll saw, a WEN, operated! I was pleased how it turned out, I could tell what it was and it wasn't all cut up looking like a 3 year old got ahold of it. So off down the scroll saw art road I went, and I've loved every minute of it...well, maybe not the "designer firewood" pieces LOL. It is standing on the urn of our cat Boo. After 14 years we had to send him across the Rainbow Bridge about a year ago. I made the "Forever In Our Hearts" for him last summer. The next two pictures are some of the puzzles I sell at craft shows, I'm one of Iggy's Puzzle Zombies. The "CAT" one sells very well.
  17. Great job Dick! Looks like my old '83 Wide Glide Shovelhead. That was a fun bike...for local riding. Anything more than a day ride it was my Goldwing...much more comfy.
  18. OMG! My new saw is dirty! This is the quietest table saw I’ve ever heard. And I love the wheels, it’s very easy to move around the shop. With the DC hooked up it barely makes any dust at all! I moved it out, rolled over the smaller DC and hooked it up. Plugged both in and set the fence to 11” to trim a piece of 12x12 BB ply. Something didn’t look right...way too wide. I put the piece, 12” square, up to the blade and moved the fence to the other side. It said 4 3/4” or something...what!!! I reached under the fence rail to see if there were more holes...none. I then stepped back to look at it and figure out what I did wrong putting it together. It was then that I noticed the OTHER little window on the right side. Dummy...use the right window when cutting on right side of the blade. The left window is for fence setting on left side.
  19. Thank you so much Travis! These kinds of projects will be fantastic. I'm really looking forward to the design help! I have ideas for stuff, they float through my head rather quickly lol, but don't really know how to transfer them into a cuttable pattern. This new section will be an awesome help to me! Thanks again Travis! SSV is my favorite place on the web!
  20. Yup, I hope to have time to do that today.
  21. Got it together! Man...that thing is huge compared to my Kobalt jobsite saw! It looks like an aircraft carrier. I checked the electrical panel, and I already have a couple of 20amp circuits ready. Tomorrow I may check the adjustments and fire it up!
  22. Yup! It's a DeWalt 734. And there's a new Wahuda 8" jointer there also.
  23. Yesterday I had a few minutes to get it out of the box and on it's feet...with the help of my shop assistant who was holding down the instructions LOL. Maybe I can make more progress today.
  24. At Lowe's it's $599, I get a 10% veteran discount.
  25. I noticed that in my searching. When I find where I use it most of the time I'll pull a separate 30amp circuit and a plug close by. That will eliminate the problems some have had.
