  1. Thank you Kevin!
  2. Kind of slow...and several blades...lol I'm going to do 4 or 5 for the kids before Thanksgiving...but they'll be in 1/2" !
  3. Took a scrap piece of Cedar and made an initial necklace last night. Steve Good has this in all initials as well as a few more necklaces. I put polyurethane on it to dry overnight. Not really happy with the finish. Ideas? Poly, spray lacquer, leave bare, or ??? But it's a good way to use scrap...easy and quick too!
  4. Thanks Marg! Yes it is slow, and blade eating too. I went from the trivet to a trumpet I'm doing for a cousin (he just sent me a copy of his new release CD) done in 1/4" BB Ply. It was like going from a riding lawn mower to a race car! I have to be extra careful that I don't go too fast and cut what I don't want to!
  5. It looks great! Your design...or a pattern from someone?
  6. Fantastic!! You've outdone yourself!
  7. Great looking! Where did you get the pattern for the first two ornaments? And how do you put names in?
  8. One of my most fond memories is with my best friend making toys for his three kids. It was freezing cold around Christmas and not much heat in his garage. Our wives were in the house keeping the kids busy while Mike and I played "Santa's Elves" and made their toys. We were in the ARMY stationed at Ft. Sill OK, 40 some years ago an enlisted man didn't make squat...so what we made was most of their Christmas gifts. I still think about that every year about this time. Mike passed away in Maine about 10 yrs ago from the effects of Agent Orange. Sorry...we now return you to your regularly scheduled scroll saw channel......
  9. It came out really nice! Great job. I looked at that one, but started Steve's Christmas Nativity Cross last night in 1/4" BB Ply. I like your cross, what did you use? I may have to do that one too.
  10. It cut OK…just seamed slower. I think I went through 4 or 5 blades. Didn't have to worry about blow out like when cutting Baltic Birch ply...LOL How many blades would you use doing a cut like that from 1" nominal? It wasn't really 3/4 either, more like 7/8 or so...came from Lowe's. I've got a piece of Maple, Oak, and mahogany coming from Ocooch, should be here by Friday. Trying to find a source of good wood at good prices.
  11. Thanks Brenda! Yea it's a challenge for sure!
  12. Finished up my first trivet this morning. Didn't have any 1/2" Oak wide enough...so I used 1" Oak. Finished with butcher block oil. I used #5 Pegas and just chugged on through. I think it'll be 1/2" from now on...lol It's a Steve Good pattern with all initials and plain also. I think I'll have to make several more, in 1/2" this time, for the kids before we go up there for Thanksgiving.
  13. Great job John! The Roos are cute, and the box is really unique.
  14. Beautiful Ron! Do you have a pattern for this style...or is it something you came up with?
  15. Great cutting! You can almost hear him sing!
  16. I was thinking that might be the hot ticket. I have some 2/0 spirals but have only tried them once...it was a wild ride! I'll have to work with them some.
  17. Congratulations on a great show!! Hope you continue to get back in shape...so the shows are easier.
  18. Ron, I love those boxes! Beautiful woods, simple design, very classic and elegant. Well done!!
  19. Thanks Dan! In your show pictures I saw a couple with the candle holders in it. They do look better in Maple and Mahogany! I have some of both coming...May have to redo that pattern in hardwood. I also picked up some boiled linseed oil...going to try your "home brew" lol.
  20. I did a tissue box over the weekend. Steve Good has a couple of these square boxes on his site. I did this one first in Poplar...ran out (thought I had another piece) so I used Oak for the top. Some Minwax Shades in Pecan. I'm with some of you...tab joints are a pain, may not do them for a while. I'll try the other design soon. It has a box...then several different sides you can choose from. I'll do several boxes, then choose a couple different side panels. I designed a standard tissue box last night and cut out solid sides. If it works OK I'll try to design some fretwork to either cut on the sides or make glue on panels.
  21. They are all great Dick...but I really like the tiger and the owl! The high school in has a tiger for a mascot, The Lamar Tigers. I may try one and see if it sells. I notice a lot of people doing the big cats. How is the best (read easiest) way to do "hair/fur/end of a broken board...like right below the tiger's chin. I see that type of cut in a lot of things.
  22. Great! Looks fun...I like it!!!
  23. All three are beautiful! But I like the hummingbird the best.
  24. Fantastic! It really makes it come alive!
  25. Really cool looking cut! You did a super job on it. I grew up in Tulsa not far from where the Cord replicas were built. A high school friend's older brother had one...for a while. After the wreck he never fixed it...but he did pay a hefty ticket for drag racing on a public street. Beautiful car.
