  1. I built this work bench over 30 years ago and I still love it. It is an easy build and not overly expensive depending on what vises you decide to use. I modified the design to add another vise. The design is great in that the top surface is easily replaced after years of scrapes, glue, stain etc. extremely sturdy yet not too heavy to move. Norm Abrahms work bench
  2. That is SWEET!
  3. The language is Czech, and translated says the same as your sign and ornaments Kevin. As Frank said you really don’t need to translate it the carving is rather obvious to any kind of woodworker. BTW, nice cutting on the ornaments.
  4. My wife’s uncle, who is of Czech heritage, is an extremely talented carver and created this piece many years ago. This is one of my most precious pieces of his that sits in my office. Thought you might enjoy.
  5. Bernd, we might need that steamship later this week! Stay dry.
  6. Try this link.
  7. That’s very cool!
  8. Kevin, here is a video of a down to earth guy I follow on Youtube. You will see he uses a multitool to do the very thing you are considering. https://youtu.be/vLkRlbAmyQw?feature=shared I just bought a Milwaukee multitool based upon recommendations from carpenter friends. Milwaukee has a deal if you buy 2 batteries and a charger you get a free tool of which the multitool is one of the options. May want to check it out, the math works to take the deal.
  9. Appears I have some training to do
  10. I have this printer and it works well. Bought it several years ago for about $150 at Sam’s.
  11. That’s one skinny bird!
  12. Actually you can find poplar with light purple/lavender streaks. I ran across several boards at my local lumber yard a year ago and they now sit in my shop. Never hurts to dig thru the poplar pile.
  13. I have made a couple of these boxes to hold a bridle and other keepsakes for horses that passed.
  14. Try this video. Steve Good jigsaw puzzles
  15. Thanks for your shared wisdom. I use 1/4 on portraits as I like the visual depth against the backer, just a personal preference.
  16. I am curious if anyone has ever stack cut a sizeable portrait. I need to cut 3 portraits for family out of 1/4 ply. The size is about 8x10. It has a moderate amount of fine detail and I would like to optimize and at the very least stack two of the three to eliminate 3 individual cuttings. I stack cut ornaments and other smaller items often but am wondering if the larger more complex design will really cut well in a stack. I would love to hear some thoughts from those of you who may have wandered down this road. Thanks.
  17. That is beautiful. OK, you got me, ordered the book just now.
  18. I have used pins. They work nicely on smaller pieces but I have experienced some layer seperation on larger pieces with lots of interior cuts. I probably could have used more interior pins but at some point it gets to be more work than taping.
  19. wow, that’s awesome
  20. I cut hard maple frequently. Pegas skip blades work well, just stay on top of sharpness and note you will consume more blades than normal. As mentioned, cut slowly and watch your side pressure.
  21. I also have been perplexed by the vanishing act of 3M 45 spray adhesive in stores. I finally found that my local Ace Hardware had supplies. While Ace prices are a bit high if you are a devoted 45 user you may want to take a look. My local price at Ace is $8.59 for the 10.5oz can.
  22. You can use a post setting yes and in fact I have requested pair but I need to mod the pattern so as to hide the portion you glue to the cut earring.
  23. Scrapplie and meflick, my big fat fingers don’t manage the opening and closing of the metal rings well. It is tedious work for me and time I would rather spend on the saw. The outcome is appreciated and I may take up the effort to convince my better half to do the metal work if she is willing. Scrapplie here’s the offer, I will happily send your favorite pair if you will pierce your ears and post a picture
  24. Several of Steve’s patterns. The dyed pairs are cut from hard maple, the others are from cherry. Easy cut with a #1 mgt on the Pegas. Adding the hooks is a royal PITA. My wife and her friends loved them but I need to get out of the jewelry business as the time spent adding the hooks is not my cup of tea.
