A test technician has made great progress. So I made him a appreciation award with his name "Sang". His progress was to make the waveform shown 1000 times faster than it was done for the past 5 years. This waveform is used over 600 times during his full test suite. So it made a big impact on time. I put some IC die (chips) in polyester resin pour. The chips came from the same project that he excelled at. Wood is Myrtle. Me. Mark Eason

I try really hard to think / make something a laser or a cnc machine can Not do. My wearable cowboy hats, laser cutters can not cut 3/4" wood. Especially at at a 9 deg angle in a oval. The cnc can but takes multiple boards or a big chunk of wood. My inspiration was youtube lathe videos showing a cowboy hat. They start with a 100lb stump. I just start with a 3/4" board and (3) 1/8" thick strips of 18" x 2ft long. I try to make stuff the new machine can't. So my hats are all hand scrolled. 20 hours of work. Bowls also fall into this category. But lathes do bowls very well. Is scrollsaw bowls competing with lathes? Before thinking of hats I made a hollow nfl football. just 2 bowls glued together. Lathes can do this also. But most wood workers have solid wood footballs. Functional scrollsaw projects are a challenge to compete with new fancy tools. That is why I like scrollsawing hard projects. It shows fancy tools can't do everything yet. I have wore my hats for over a year and a half. I get a lot of questions about selling my hats. But no one actually hired me yet. So I answered my own question ... no competition. But the product is so unique and really non functional, read that as not safe to wear. So I don't really expect to sell any. One guy, a wood worker, asked me about the wood pattern leather hat. He got a kick that it was actual wood. Inlays using cnc are a way different technique. I feel scrollsaw is easier than cnc. Intarsia is also hard. So using a cnc for intarsia might be a bit easier getting perfect fit and carved to show depth. But still difficult with either tool. Sorry for the long post. It would be cool to have a lot us build something. Even I would get my lazy butt to help. We could mail our pieces to someone for the final assembly. Another thought is to make a bunch of somethings to help out an event or specific charity. We can make a catch phrase... "scrollers for peaces", (play on words (peices). Say no to "fyntanal", say yes for scollersaws. (bad example) Our Boxes, Bowls, baskets, or toys could sent somewhere with "complements of "scrollsaw village". @Travis Kinda like Toys for tots concept. I can imagine all these 3d reindeer showing up somewhere.

Nice article. It got me to appreciate the hobby a bit more. But as I read history I always ask questions? How did the clocks work? Winding or gravity? Did he re-sharpen the blades? If not Who supplied the blades? A steady supply was needed.

Both vases are cool. The dark 2 tone vase is pleasant to the eyes. But the curve sun flower has nice style.

I would try to remove the mistake if you can. Covering it up is okay also. Putting that whole piece under the saw would be a big concern.

Remove and replace his name with a square piece of different wood. This kinda hi-lites his name with different background. A cloud shape instead of square would be harder and space is probably limited. But it would show that the jet going above the clouds. I don't think there is enough space. This separate wood piece also allows his name to be inlaid or embossed (relief). This next idea is to place dates of service in line with his name. This gives you a bigger font to play with. But it needs client to approval. Non standard formats are hard to change. Wow I just noticed your bottom frame adds a sun reflection to the ocean. Adds to the overall picture. That is so cool.

Oh crap.... please share your thoughts and final method. I have some thoughts but I don't want to influence your artistic view point. Ok I want to learn from you.

thanks Frank, I never used a variable speed drill press before. I viewed the exploded diagram and kinda understood the lever was expanding some diameter of a pulley. So I was very hesitant to try anything. Me. Mark Eason

I did not like table crank either. Crank it down and nothing happens, then all of a sudden it drops like 4 teeth worth. If I lift up front of table to take weight off, it cranks down smoother. For main stem tube, the directions say remove oil and apply wax. What kind of wax did you guys use? Oh yea the speed handle is pretty stiff. Is there a way to make it less tight?

oh yea, my old craftsman does not have a crank. So only the column can be cut. My bench is bolted to the wall. My old craftsman would almost fit on my bench. I could have cut it down to to fit. But decided not to put it on my bench. Old setup, New setup after 3 years.... working from home ok on the other side of garage is my cutting drilling station. My timeout out corner. I stash , ok put away, power sanding , cutoff saw , and power hand tools in cabinents and under the scroll saw. Power dust makers are used outdoors. The small drill press is in the corner. The WEN 4214T the top and the chuck will be about 10 inches higher.
