  1. All of you who cut portraits/ landscapes what do you use straight, spiral, both? Tips and tricks please .. I know I'm not that skilled yet but I want to dive into something complicated, just for the experience and learning curve even if it ends up in the trash. I'm finding out the only way to learn is to do.
  2. Yep I've been looking at the 17in 2hp as well
  3. Thanks Phil, It's not that I don't like it but it's a bit like me old and wore out. As I said I bought it used over 10 years ago, it had been rode hard and put away wet. I upgraded it then but if I was to keep it now it would need a total rebuild bearings have play in them, one wheel has a slight wobble and the motors tired. It's done it's duty and it's time for a new one, I was going to replace it last year....... besides who doesn't like a new Toy !
  4. Jim I'm only about 3 hrs away from the Missouri one.
  5. This is exactly what I've been looking at, everyone who has one says the same as you. If I do decide in this one I'll get the riser kit with it.
  6. I think I might be in the market for a new band saw! I found I like cutting solid wood a lot more than plywood, don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with plywood but I like the results I get from real wood better. I've got quite a bit of nice 3/4 hardwoods in the 6 to 8in range and a absolute load of old barn timbers at my FIL farm which clean up real nice. My old 14 jet is on its last legs, I bought it secondhand as it is, and it's really not up to resawing a whole ton of lumber. So when Christmas is over I'll start looking !
  7. Firstly thanks to Denny at Artcrafters for his excellent service. The package was packed very well and the chucks were packaged in a plastic box with an insert in it, every part had a place. Installation was a breeze and took about 15 mins including removing the table and refitting it. Everything fitted well and there were no surprises. I gave the saw a quick run to make sure everything was square. The first thing I noticed was it was quieter, the old chucks used to rattle a bit and cutting seemed a little more positive, also the clamp screws seem to not need tightening so much. I've not really used it enough to say if they are going to make a big difference but I'll revisit the thread at a later date.
  8. I bought a 1998 vs226 and the only thing I upgraded was the blower tube and lock line everything else is fine. The Pegas chucks do not fit the hawk but the chucks on it work fine, and if you feel the need you can upgrade to the latest ones. I have also found parts for the saw a pretty cheap.
  9. A small drill press is on my shopping list ....
  10. Thank for shipping so quickly Denny I'll be ordering some blades to once I know what I want.
  11. I been enjoying the new Delta I have a couple of gripes but overall I'm happy with it. I actually bought this as a back up saw but I've found I switch between this and my hawk depending on what I'm cutting. The hawk is less agressive so on thin wood and fine detail this is my choice but on thicker wood and general cutting I like the Delta. Sometimes I switch between saws on the same project which seems to work for me I really am not keen on the blade chucks on the Delta so I've ordered the Pegas ones off Denny at artcrafters to replace them.
  12. I've only just experimented with spirals, I've watched a ton of videos and cut a few things. I decided that spirals are going to be part of my journey, I don't think they are particularly hard to use, but forget everything you learned about straight blade and a deft touch is required.... But what do I know
  13. Exactly ...
  14. @kmmcrafts Kevin I watched the video a week or so ago and I thought the very same thing, we were discussing this in another thread a while ago
  15. In my limited use of spirals I found if you make your cut then very gently go round the edges again you can tidy up most of those fuzzies, but it's all in a very light touch .
  16. Missed this thread ... My hearing is damaged due to chemo and I have a problem hearing higher ranges, so it's a kind ofe waste for me to buy top notch headphones. For general use gardening, sawing what ever I have a pair of Bluetooth JBL TUNE710BT they are pretty cheap about $65 and the sound is pretty good (they are over ear but in a pretty small form) they are extremely comfortable and I could wear them all day ! And also the battery life is phenomenal at a stated 50hrs per charge and I have no reason to question this. I may charge them once a week if that.
  17. They are all great, Well done! But that sailboat
  18. I recently cut some 3/4 it was killing my FDUR blades, I found Pegas MGT blades were the best even though I'm not the biggest fan on softer wood, they were the blade for the job on that hard maple!
  19. Yes a company called Bushton Manufacturing bought them.
  20. I have had the plans for his panorouter for years, I'm not sure where they are now but I've never got round to building it ...
  21. It's worth looking around, I found my Hawk vs260 for a $100 cleaned it up and bought new knobs, new plastic clips for the blade holder and the retro fit blower for it. Runs and cuts like a champ for under $200.
  22. I had the same problem when I got my hawk. I got a few of the plastic clips Kevin mentioned so I would have some on hand in case I broke one.
  23. Welcome to scrollsaw village Chris!
  24. I use these casters on my workbench.
