  1. This article has some great information in it. It does deal with fine art that costs more but there are a lot of points that seem to be spot on for us. https://www.artbusiness.com/artists-how-to-price-your-art-for-sale.html
  2. Just finished this one.
  3. No problem. Hope I am not breaking any rules. http://www.th-h.com/
  4. I live in San Diego and we have a number of cabinet maker type specialty wood store in the area that sell it in 5 x 5 sheets. Great prices too. If you live in a bigger town try to look for these specialty places if possible. Last time I paid about $11 or so for a 5x5 sheet of bb 1/8" Of course the thicker sizes cost more.
  5. Too bad they dont just sell bark that we could just glue on.
  6. Just finished this pirate.
  7. Throw back to my SERE instructor days.
  8. I just take a picture of the pattern with my phone and email it to myself. Then I can play with it on the computer. Dont know how to make them red though. I use paint.net to adjust the pattern like cropping it and such. I save them as jpg so it will open across platforms. Once i get it right in paint. net I open excel or any spreadsheet program you have like that and insert the pic. Then you can adjust the size and it will print out across multiple pages if you want to. Just need to tape them together or course when done.
  9. I look at them like tattoos. Lots of people have disney and star wars tattoos and no one is coming after them or the artists making then scrape them off or making then stop tattooing them. Also look at cover bands, they play nothing but other peoples music and get paid for it and dont change the words or anything. They dont get in trouble and are hired by all sorts of businesses. Obviously I am not a lawyer but I feel as long as you dont label something as official looney toons or something like that it should not be an issue. Of course you probably are not opening a giant store selling these things either. Look at John Wayne, every scroller in the world makes that one pic and sells it, Is his estate coming after us all? When you think about it, art is all based on someone else's work. Who originally drew the circle or the square? Can we not use those shapes either? Just being devils advocate.
  10. Spray paint for me all the way. Too much frustration otherwise. I would rather spend time taping stuff off than redoing a nice piece like this.
  11. Awesome stuff, particularly the palm tree ones. are those painted on there?
  12. I like to finish them. i can get 3 going at once as I have that many workstations. That of course does not man that I dont lose interest in pieces halfway through. My main problem is I will underestimate the difficulty and number of cuts and they halfway into it and just get sick of it. I will set it aside and start something i can get some quicker satisfaction out of. I will eventually get back to those pieces, just might take some time and of course they are now hogging up valuable bench space so I need to address them.
  13. Motivation comes from strange places!!
  14. Mine is floppy. Thought of tightening the bolt but figured it is working so why mess with it. Block of wood works more that fine for my needs. I dont need to block it that often. I have my saw sort f at eye level so its easy for me to see the holes under the wood. My chin is the same height as the top of the saw so somewhat eye level.
  15. The blade seems a bit big for that, i use a 2/0 on 1/8" bb. Gives me great control, obviously I go very slow when doing it.
  16. This is inspired by a Bernard Buffet painting which is my favorite.
  17. Go to google and search images for coloring pages. All sorts of stuff from simple to complex.
  18. Always get a start when the blade breaks. I feel like will farrell elf when he is cranking the jack in the box. I think we can appreciate this feeling. lol
  19. I am a spray can guy all the way. I use the ones from home depot that are the 2x ones. I think krylon. You can get cheaper ones but it takes numerous coats for decent coverage so its a better value with the 2x ones.
  20. I dont wear any safety gear and I saw in my dining room right next to where I am sitting right now. I do however only use bb, never any other woods. I wear a respirator while painting though and I do that outside.
  21. I spray glue only. There is a trick to it though, As I am sure you know, it can be a complete pain to get the pattern off sometimes. To prevent this i spray the glue but a super super thin amount. Maybe 1 second for the entire pattern. it should not look wet. Then i let it sit for at least 15 minutes. It should be just barely tacky, way less tacky than a post it note, way less. Almost like its not tacky at all. Put it right on,. It will stay in place for the sawing and will come right off when done. Takes a bit of practice but once ytou get it down you will swear by it.
  22. Its all done with the scroll saw frame included. I cut all the pieces out and mark them on the back what color they need to be painted. Once I am done cutting I tape them all to a piece of card stock by color, one piece of card stock per color. I spray paint them all and reassemble it all. i use wood glue to hold it all together. To shade with the spray can i use two cans at a time. an example is the fish which i paint with gray and white an the same time. Its easier obviosuly because th epieces are separate on their own piece if card stock. Its technically just a silhouette but instead of tossing the pieces I keep them and put them back in. This in not this particular piece but it will give you an idea in an in work one.
  23. Here is my latest effort.
  24. I have a whole house full of stuff i have not sold yet I still make more. The advantage I have is no wife. bada bing!!
