Just been looking for something new to cut so looked in pattern library, Not impressed at the mature set of patterns they are not mature, they are pathetic, derogatory patterns of women it was pointed out to me this is a family site, if i cut any of these and showed it to my girl friend i would have it quite rightly smashed over my head lol, i just wondered if anyone else is bothered by this i just hate anything derogatory towards women, racism, bigotry, sexism i hate it all there is no place for it in any form in this day and age, so please Travis have a look at the content in that catagory if your ok with it then fine but am not.

What did you expect to find in a "mature " section Gordon, nobody forced you to look.

And that makes it ok ?  "nobody forced me to look" wow, it's one thing to be mature another thing to have seedy drawings of women like that sorry but it just doesn't sit right with me and never will, you might be fine with women being potrayed like that but on a family web site i certainly AM not. why stop at that am sure the drawings could be a lot worse and seedy but its ok because it says mature no one forced me to look. really ?

I went to look in the 'Mature' section and although most of them  are not something I'd cut, there is nothing in there that compares to Tony's  'Calendar' in his workshop. 🙈

Because I've never particularly wanted to cut a 'Mature' pattern, today is the first day I've actually looked at it, just because it seemed to upset you so.

Never bothered looking before because of the title.

So I suppose it's each to his own, but I understand what you're saying.

As an 'Ex' Playboy Bunny, perhaps I have a different outlook.

I have however cut what could be called a 'Mature' pattern  for a friend and he and his wife love it.

Brenda am very much for each to there own but to have this under the heading of mature, them drawings don't represent mature in any dictionary i have ,had the title been derogatory, seedy, sexest drawings then i would have totally understood and not looked them. there are plenty of websites am sure ppl can find derogatory things on i just didn't think this was one of them. as you say each to there own.

SHeeez, society sure has gone the hill - live and let live

And with that attitude changes can't happen.  You will notice that I didn't specify what titles were derogatory, I just left it alone.  And with this comment, I will bow out of the site for a while. Sorry if I have offended anyone.

hey Barb don't bow out of anything we all have our opinions, its me that has a problem with some of the drawings, ppl might say they are just drawings all i see is creepy little men drawing or cutting these images it's kinda sad when your going through the pattern library with a youngster looking for an easy pattern for them to try  and that's the crap that comes up,  it's a joke to title it mature when they need to grow up, Barb  i don't care who i offend there is no need for childish sexist patterns like this, times have changed thank god .

They use the same rating "category" for video games, TV, movies, books, magazines.  Its to indicate that the subject matter is for mature audiences only.  If that subject matter doesn't appeal to you, especially knowing what the classification means now, then don't browse that section.  As for "proving" that kids don't go there to look....this is a site for woodworkers, scrollers in particular, and while the admins do a bang-up job of keeping the profanity and politics to a minimum, there's nothing I've seen that says this is a family website.  If we start changing things around to suit individual tastes, what will be left that will be appropriate to post?  I'm not a big fan of the Beatles, so no more Lenon portraits or Abby Roads?  Someone else may not believe the same as you so no religious themes?  No nature/animal images to avoid offending vegans?  WordArt is banned to avoid offending those who's grammar isn't that great (or bad grammar wordart to avoid offending those who's is?)?  As Jerry said....pick your battles.  Your right to not surf a category doesn't trump someone else's right to try their hand at some pretty challenging patterns.

Personally, I avoid that category because 1) I don't want to have to explain to my wife why I'm cutting one of those patterns, and b) likewise explanations to my 12 year old daughter.  :)

Travis has created a site for people to gather for free. Artist have been kind enough to donate patterns to use free from the site. If I'm thumbing through a magazine and don't like an article I turn the page. If I don't like what is running on tv I change the channel. There are billions of websites, this has what it has been provided. Its up to any adult to view, read, use, not use and click past what they prefer not to view.

I don't view porn, my choice. Anyone has a choice to select what works for themselves. RJF

if you all seem to think that patterns degrading women is ok then good for you but this isn't 1920 if there is nothing wrong in these then why would you have to explain to your wife, its not about what i like or don't like it's about what is acceptable in this day and age and am sorry for you that you think degrading patterns are ok to have up i really am. No matter what your age age is what might have been appropriate years ago is not now a days, I think i have miss judged a lot of ppl in this site in there way of thinking, there is no justification for degrading women in any shape or form no matter what your age or what you might think.

I for one do not mind the mature pattern sections on this forum or any other for that matter. I have a few customers the like them. Me personally as a scrollsaw artist when I'm cutting I don't see anything only lines I'm  cutting at that time. As a person I don't see women in a negative way. I've cut men as will as women.  For some women customers.

If a song comes on the radio that I don't like, I change the station.  It's that simple.  I know that you are from Scotland, which I hope to visit some day.. I can't speak for your country but in America it seems like now-a-days that everyone is offended by something.  We should call our country the United States of the Offended.  I hope you figure out your dilemma.

Ah cancel culture comes to SSV

I actually enjoy having a so called mature section - nothing I want to cut but was nice to see the patterns someone spent time creating

Don't like it? Don't look and keep the cancel culture out of SSV!

Oh and just for kicks - I asked the wife if she was offended in any way. Her response was "let me guess, someone got offended at looking at something" LOL Hit the nail on the head

Having been raised by a mother and four sisters, I'm well versed in what can be degrading to women. However; after 74 years, I've seen women who cheerfully pose in "degrading poses or dress" for money, for self satisfaction, or for their lovers and sweethearts. I've seen portraits, photos, and paintings of women, hanging in peoples homes, that could be considered scandalous. I've long since lost any shock or regret at what some women will get into or out of.

Mature means that the included subject is for adult viewing only. One shouldn't be scanning that area with children present, unless they are willing to spend a few hours explaining things.

What some people might think degrading - others might think sexy or titillating. What some folks think is art, other might think it's filthy trash. There is no reason to remove the Mature sub or it's contents. People who don't like it - just don't go there.

I looked at the Mature pattern section for the first time just now and found there just about what I expected to find.

There is nothing that I would cut but nothing that I find offensive.

I’m with you Frank. Maybe it’s just us North Americans that think differently.
