Feel bad for all the people getting the cold weather that are used to it. My son lives in Corpus Christi. We were there over the Christmas holidays a few years back and people were walking around in parkas at 45 -  50 degrees. Next couple days we are supposed to get hit with a bad winter snow storm so we will wait and see. For those not used to this, Dress warm and in layers. Be safe and stay healthy.

Central Indiana forecasts calls for 6 to 9 inches of snow by Tuesday. Snow blower gassed and plugged in. Problem is the is about 3 inches of rock solid ice on the ground now from the slush last weekend.

Temps this morning were single digits with sub zero wind chills, but, it is winter in the midwest and it should be expected. But, the weather "terrorists" on TV are almost giddy with their scare tactics.

Been snowing for two days here.  Temp in hight teens low 20's Wind blowing about15-20 so lots of drifts out in my neck of the cheatgrass and sagebrush...  I love it... I don't have to drive or work in it....  My view of Rattlesnake Mountain from my deck.... Been looking at it almost every day since1981..  The highest peak (in the back ground) is something like the highest mountain in the southern hemisphere,,with no trees on it.... some such thing..It has abandoned silos on it that use to house Nike Missiles to protect us from the 'bad guys".

Dover, Delaware - Had an interesting thing happen yesterday as I was scroll sawing in the garage.  Wife came asking if I heard an unusual noise.  No.  Came back a minute later and announcing she had found the noise.  It was the outside unit of the heat pump - as the unit was running the fan blades were contacting ice buildup around the inside shroud from the freezing drizzle/rain.  (below freezing temperature with rain - the perfect combination).  Our first time with a heat pump, so this was new to us.
Managed to chip away the ice buildup and made a makeshift cover to keep out the rain.
It's running OK but good thing we were home went it happened.  I could see $ signs in our future if it had gone unchecked.
So after an hour of that - I went back to scroll sawing and life was good once more!

Been a really mild winter here in southern Michigan.. but the last few weeks has been a bit colder than normally.. but that said.. it's not unusual and kind of expected every year for at least a few days. I timed my vacation a little too late this year. Next Saturday I'm headed to South Carolina for a week.. and that is the same week we are supposed to warm back up to the mid 30's.. Doesn't matter too much to me any more as I put a furnace in my shop late last fall.. I mostly keeping it at 50 - 60F and the cost so far has been comparable to the little round tanktop LP heater that roasted my leg while the rest of the shop was still froze, LOL

I've got about 12 inch of snow on the ground ( kinda normal this time of year ) and we are supposed to get another 8-12 tonight.. I watched a video from TX how they say it's snowing and drifting etc. They don't bother to mention that here in MI unless we're getting 2 foot drifts or something.. the video showed the road was mostly clear with a dusting of snow blowing across the road.. Almost spit my drink all over the keyboard... I do realize though that this is something they don't get very often and do not probably have proper equipment to deal with snow etc.. The ground being warm also makes for a greasy more wet snow which is slick to drive in compared to a mid winter snow when the ground is froze and the slow is light and blows out of your way when you drive through it..

Its 7 degrees here outside of Austin, blustery wind is probably dropping the windchill into the negatives.  Its been below freezing since Friday, though, with fog/sleet conditions over most of the weekend making the roads solid sheets of ice covered by a layer of snow over the curb.  I've never been one to shy away from wet/snowy roads, since usually those conditions are preceeded by many days above freezing, but even I know my limits and have serious doubts about getting out of my street, much less all the way in to work.  I've got Coleman lantern/stove standing by, and layers to don if the rolling power outages (yay, #GreenEnergy with its environmentally friendly windmills [frozen] and solar panel farms [coated in ice, snow, and clouds]!!!) roll over our neighborhood.  I know most of our northern folks are laughing at Texass right now, but we have the same reaction when y'all get up into the mid- to upper-90's during the summer (Heaven forbid that one afternoon when the thermometer reads triple digits), so Karma levels out.  :)

The dogs aren't sure whether to love the white fluffy back yard, or hate the cold sticky stuff between the pawpads.  Sure makes it easier to avoid the "landmines", though.

We're finally supposed to get back above 0 for the first time in a week here in Eastern Montana. It was our first really cold week of winter as January was super mild for us. For the past week we mostly hovered between -25 to -10ish. The worst it got was -38 one night and a few days were absolutely miserable with -55 windchills. So, you guys to the south and east can have it. But Stay Safe!!!

My inlaws live in Nixon.. I've spent a few months down there in the summer July and August.. as we rent a cabin and make a 4-6 week vacation out it is every few years.. first few times the heat wasn't too bad.. made it over a 100 a few times but the heat is much drier heat so without the sticky air I can deal with the heat.. in fact I was taking it better than the inlaws was.. I mowed their grass for them the one day it was 105..  Anyway I think it was in 2010 in first part of August that the temps made into the 125 - 130.. now.. that was a bit hot for me..  They took us to Guadalupe river to a swim hole spot and it felt like a hot tub to me... he said we'd cool off but I thought it made it worst, LOL

BTW, you guys can keep the critters though.. we don't get scorpions, never seen fire ants until I decided to stand on a mound.. and the tarantulas copperheads and the big rattle snakes.. I don't do that stuff.. We have rattle snakes but not like those you all have.. Anyway.. as long as you all have those critters.. I'll gladly take the cold and snow, LOL

Forecast in SW Ohio is for 7 to 12 inches of snow with lows in single digits. I'm excited. Finally we are getting a winter. I wish I still had my cross country skis.

Dan, I wish I could ship all this snowy, windy weather your way! I have never enjoyed the cold or the snow and as I get older I hate it even worse!
As you have probably heard me say too many times, I am in a lot of pain with health issues and shoveling snow is NOT therapy!

God Bless! Spirithorse

-26 degrees here this morning. Yesterday morning also. Hasn’t  been above 10 degrees for about two weeks. Our average high is 28.
But.... it’s winter, and I’m in Minnesota. So really nothing out of the ordinary. But damn! It’s cold

Not as much snow this year as normal.  December and January were wonderfully warm, relatively speaking.  February has been brutal.  A week or so of temperatures at -30C or colder with windchills in the -50 range.  It has warmed up today, -28 right now.  It is supposed to be around -18 by Friday!!

I've been watching Grand Forks and Winnipeg. BRRRRRRRRRRRR!

12 degrees F here for the second day in a row, North side of Houston, TX, with 3" of snow on the ground.  It is pretty, but the utility companies are not equipped to handle this.  Electric power was out all day yesterday.  We have a back-up generator and were ok on that.  But the water company could not get their back-up generator working, so we had no water for the day.  And the cell telephone towers and internet stations are on back-up batteries which did not last.  So we had no telephone service, no internet and no cable TV for the day.  And my scroll saw workshop is too cold for me.
