MarieC Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 Last night I had a dream that my husband forgot to lock our shop and someone came in and stole most of my tools including my scroll saw! I can't remember what other tools were stolen but I remember looking at the spot where my scroll saw was and it was just any empty spot. It was an awful feeling when I woke up but after I realized it was a dream I was quite thankful. Has anyone ever had a dream like that? ChelCass 1 Quote
rafairchild2 Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 Yes, you are getting too obsessed with scroll sawing... For your penance, you must scroll, 1 Puzzle, 1 toy of your choice and 1 Intarsia, all while saying, 15 hail saw dust, and 10 our wood, full of grains. After that, double-check your doors and windows when leaving, add an alarm sensor and perhaps a Blink security camera. Now rest well my child. MarieC, wombatie, Gene Howe and 6 others 1 8 Quote
ChelCass Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 Hubby locks his workshop but I never lock mine. My she shed is in the backyard and we have a 90 lb Rottie. Everybody who goes by knows she's here. Hubby's shop in on the other side of the yard so he needs to lock his. I also have pictures of everything in my shop and serial numbers just in case! Gene Howe Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 The back acre of our 2 acre property Is surrounded with an 8' chain link fence. I never lock the shop in back, behind the house. In fact, the overhead door is always open in the summer. The shop interior is visible from the street at a certain angle. I'm not too worried about theft. I'd be more worried about an injury to any would be theif. My shop is not the neatest and, in the dark, someone is likely to trip over a tool or stack of lumber. MarieC and ChelCass 2 Quote
Joe W. Posted October 2, 2023 Report Posted October 2, 2023 In our age of specialty medicine, I'm sure you could find a therapist with a major in tool dreams and their meanings. Me thinks you are repressing something. (at least that's what my therapist always tells me ) But just to be on the safe side, get one of those baby monitors and put it near the scroll saw so it will wake you up when somebody does try to walk away with it. barb.j.enders, ChelCass and MarieC 1 1 1 Quote

Wow, a baby monitor would be a good idea and they cost a lot less than a security system...thank you for that suggestion! Edited October 2, 2023 by MarieC danny 1 Quote
Mark SW Posted October 2, 2023 Report Posted October 2, 2023 Marg try a driveway alarm system. Mine is placed about in the middle of my shop. You could just do a google search goes NOT have to be amazon. Pretty sure I got mine from Ace. Amazon.com : wireless driveway alarm There is help and support systems in place. MarieC 1 Quote
TAIrving Posted October 2, 2023 Report Posted October 2, 2023 In answer to your one question, yes. The details are different, but the dream is essentially the same. In answer to your other question, you are asking the wrong crowd. To the rest of the world, we probably all seem obsessed with our hobby. To us, we are perfectly normal, having found a rewarding hobby which we would willingly share with the others, but they just don't understand. barb.j.enders, MarieC and danny 3 Quote

My wife is a neat freak, too. She doesn't come into the shop often and, when she does, I hear about my slovenly habits. MarieC 1 Quote

Mark, thank you so much for the link, that is an excellent idea. I remember the old rubber tubes that went "ding-ding" when someone rolled over them with their car...this seems much better! Thurman, Oh, thank you sooo much for letting me know that I am not alone with this type of dream! It makes me feel much better. Yes, we at least have a very healthy hobby ... It actually makes me more productive....in that I get all my chores/to-do lists done more quickly these days so I can do my scroll sawing Thank you again! Charlie E Posted October 8, 2023 Report Posted October 8, 2023 Good dreams are just a memory for me. Now I dream that I’m back at work even though I know I’m supposed to be retired and I can’t find my work truck or work clothes, etc. Or I’m back in college and can’t remember my class schedule. I can definitely tell a difference in how I feel in the morning after a night of lousy dreams. MarieC 1 Quote
Gene Howe Posted October 8, 2023 Report Posted October 8, 2023 IDK if I dream. If I do, I can't remember them. So, what else is new? My CRS mode is always on. MarieC 1 Quote

I usually have pretty good dreams, but occasionally I would have those bad college day dreams like yours, which occurred even while I taught college...weird. Maybe I was having empathy for my students I hope you have happy dreams again soon! Charlie E 1 Quote

My mind wanders too much. Often when I’m getting ready for a shower at night I bring a towel and wash cloth to the bathroom and see the towel and washcloth I already brought laying there. Once while I was getting them out of the hall closet I thought, “I already did this” and was proud of myself for remembering. When I went in the bathroom, there were my two separate towels and wash cloths I had brought earlier. MarieC and Gene Howe 2 Quote
