Magnification is only part of what to look for. Honestly, most magnifying lamps that you get are, at best, mediocre optical quality. Cheap ones can be virtually impossible to use comfortably with a scrollsaw unless you close one eye, as you will often get double vision. They are near useless when you look anywhere other than the optical center. I bought a pretty good one that was recommended for the Pegas. Then I recently bought a Hegner saw that came with the factory Hegner light/magnifier kit. The improvement was remarkable. The difference is in the lens grinding technique. The sharpness is nearly as good towards the edges as it is in the center. High end magnifiers with aspheric lenses make for a huge improvement in overall  clarity and reduced eye strain.

I have purchased what I thought was a good magnifying glass but find that they are so big that it gets in my way of cutting to have it positioned for seeing. Unless I am doing something wrong, RJ

I do not know the model and can not get to my shop downstairs.  I have been non weight bearing on my left foot for 12 weeks.  I bought it at Joann fabrics which went out of business.

I could not find it on the Ottlite website but looked like this.

How did you position the magnifier and arm? I usually mount the magnifier behind the saw and close to the arm of the saw so that the saw and the arm are both in the way, :)

I have mounted the magnifier to the side and it's not in the way.

Yes i have mounted it on my side, but when bring to front of saw it seems to be in way of me cutting. I have since bought a small magnifer with lamp (3 inches) from wooodcraft, and that is better, compared to a glass magnifer 5 inches, Thx for your help, RJ

I just need good gooseneck bench light. I can see ok with prescription reading  glasses. I just can't get use to a magnification of any kind (just me). I had have a OK light/magnifier and found that I used the light only and used the magnifier for looking at details. The light LED stopped working so I think I will look for a good light instead, no  magnifier. I do use magnetic sewing machine lights but they sometimes get in the way.

This won’t be the answer for most, but this kit came with the Hegner that I bought recently. It doesn’t get in my way, it has a mounting bracket made for the Hegner and the optics are superb and the light brightness is adjustable. That said, at the price it sells for, I doubt very seriously that I would ever buy it separately. I just happened to fall into this one all set up.image.thumb.jpeg.a2245999ac4335680dbaa838de7084de.jpeg

Lighting--

@JimNC look around some of the home home improvement stores or websites.

I have a gooseneck with a magnetic base i attach to the upper arm of my Pegas. I also had another I got from Lowe's a bit back that was a bit larger-but I just donated it a month or so ago.

For magnification--

Even though my lens implants promised close up viewing, it is not close enough for me and I wear inexpensive readers (cheaters) when doing fine work. I even found a pair of tinted +2.5 that will make my outdoor precision work more comfortable.

Jim that’s what I have a goose neck magnifying light wood river by woodcraft but is only 10 inch length.  Has a magnetic base which is nice to put on table but then in way of the project so I built a stand for it on my left side, RJ
