kmmcrafts Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I seen a Facebook post today discussing the little engraved tokens with your logo and name that Steve Good came up with where they are just 1" disc that you can use a forestner bit to put your logo on the back or bottom of a base etc.. People asked about where to get them now... I'm learning the designing portion of things a bit so I'm probably limited on the creation side of these but if you have a good logo photo etc. I can probably help you get these since I'm doing laser work. I see Steve charged $12 for a card of 12 of these.. I'm not sure if he charged shipping but I would have to at that price point you're barely covering the laser time and material. Pretty sure I could meet that same price for those here on the village if there is interest and if you can provide me a design or a real good photo of one that I could work with.. Just thought I'd put that offer out here if there is someone in need of them. Feel free to send me a PM if you need some and maybe I could help with out breaking your wallet too badly, LOL. Jim McDonald Posted June 28 Posted June 28 He did charge a modest S&H on those, but it was worth it. My schedule is packed for the next 10 days or so, but I am willing to collaborate with folks on a design after that. Quote
kmmcrafts Posted June 28 Author Posted June 28 Also does anyone know what material Steve used? I'm just assuming he used BBplywood but I'd be able to make from Walnut, Cherry, Red Oak, Maple and Mahogany.. also do white board ( dry erase board material ) are the 1/8" materials I keep on hand for laser engraving. That said I'd have to do them in sets from these materials.. in other words I'm not interested in doing 1-2-3-4 or 5 of several different materials so it'd be a full card of whatever material you wanted. Might consider a sample run of each material as a one time per person to see what they'd get.. I also feel like most scroll sawers know the colors of these types of wood and what colors / species they use most. Prices would very on some of the mentioned material since the material ( especially Walnut ) is obviously priced much higher than just the basic BBplywood.. Quote
Sycamore67 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Those are easy to.make....I make them from 3 mm BB. I design in Lightburn. Just be careful about the size and remember the kerf makes it slightly smaller. In Light burn you can adjust for the kerf. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted June 28 Author Posted June 28 Yeah I would need to use some scraps to use a 1” forester bit and do some testing to get a decent fit. I will do that if I get any interest in them, if no interest there is no sense in doing it as I laser engrave my logo directly on my projects. Quote
flarud Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) Hey Kevin,, I'd be interested in having some made. I never pulled the trigger on ordering any from Steve. I'm not in any rush for them,, not even sure what design I would want. I have 2 different brass stamps that I currently use depending on who the project is for. Thanks, Barry Edited June 28 by flarud Quote
Denny Knappen Posted June 29 Posted June 29 I purchased form Steve and he never got around to it with his health situation. I too would be interested. Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted June 29 Posted June 29 I bought them from Steve. 1/8” BB plywood. One inch round. I found a laser engraving service locally and took her a sheet I had from Steve. Explained that he died. She changed it a bit. Gave me a price. I picked it up. Worked well. Quote

I don't remember setting up the kerf in metrics in lightburn but this morning I drilled a 1" forestner bit into a piece of scrap and then while running a project I made a 1" circle into a scrap area of my project.. fits just slightly snug into the drilled hole so seems to be perfectly sized.. There could be issue with fitment if someone drills the hole and then waits a few days / weeks etc.. as the wood may have some movement.. not sure how the unfinished plywood might move too over a bit of time. I wouldn't think it'd be a big issue to where woodworkers couldn't make things fit properly.. I'm assuming they will be gluing these in? I do use a double sided tape for some layered projects and it's some strong stuff so could just make them so they peel and stick them into the drilled spot. Quote
kmmcrafts Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 So I played around with a design this afternoon. I’m not exactly sure what you all might want on them as far as saying it’s handmade or just some sort of logo with your name like I did here. The detail of the stars on this don’t show as well as I’d like but sometimes getting down to such a small size gets difficult to keep fine details. Help a lot just going up to 1.25. Wasn’t really trying to do exactly what Steve did for his but if that’s what everyone wants then maybe do something similar. Quote
kdparker Posted July 1 Posted July 1 This is nice but I would prefer it saying "handmade or handcrafted" kmmcrafts 1 Quote

I kinda like it saying that too. I think I'm going to try to come up with a few different designs to choose from. Quote
Jim McDonald Posted July 1 Posted July 1 When you talk about getting the kerf dialed in just right, I feel that if you aim for 1 inch and come out at 15/16"--it still fits nicely in a 1" hole. Some will disagree, but it will give a bit of flexibility with the glue up. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
rjweb Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Kevin have you thought of contacting Steve’s wife and see if you could get the file for his token even you had to pay her a little for them. Steve token seems to be what everyone wants, RJ kmmcrafts 1 Quote

Steve token seems to be what everyone wants, RJ I hadn't really thought of asking her. Though the designs I've seen are pretty basic and could probably be pretty easy to recreate. On that FB post that made me originally bring this up, someone replied that Steve had given them the files and they were making them so I wasn't going to be a copycat in respects for that person.. however nobody seems to have known this person was making them.. I tried to go back to ask about it and now I don't even know what group on FB it was on.. there seems to be the same person posting duplicate topics on several different groups and different people replies on all of those different groups.. Big reason I dislike those FB groups.. same person post the same thing across several different groups and then when you want to go back you can't remember what group it was in and have to spend an hour sorting through the comments in various groups to find what you were looking for, LOL.. So basically I was shooting to just design something different or "similar" to what Steve had rather than copy it. IF people want the exact same things I guess I could ask around to see if I can get permission and the files.. or the people wanting them the same thing might see if they can locate the person that Steve had given those files to and see what he can do for to get them. I was going to go back and look up that person and just post his / her info here but as I said.. I can't find it now, LOL.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted July 8 Author Posted July 8 So I've played around with some designs but not really coming up with anything I really like yet, as time allows I'll continue messing with designs. I did send a email out to his wife Patty today to see if I could purchase the files or if she knew of someone already making them to send me their info so I could relay the info here so everyone could get the tokens they had already been using. Fab4 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Hi Kev: One suggestion: K.I.S.S.....works mostly every time Don't overthink it Fab4 kmmcrafts 1 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I have a friend near me (Brooklin Ontario) that has made these for me as Steve didn't ship to Canada. He has also made them for other friends. Below are some examples, The one that shows 9 is different sizes but I have only ever use the 1 inch one. The other are the image only that I designed in Inkscape and he converts for the laser. kmmcrafts Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 Well this is really too close to what Steve was making. But here is one design. Took me a while to figure out the text on a curve in my lightburn software but now I know and super simple. lol . Like I said I’m still pretty new to this designing thing. lol Fab4 1 Quote

I would keep the font and just change the center, maybe just the saw My nickels worth, we don't have pennies anymore similar to what Don showed above, thought seen that somewhere before FAB4 Edited July 9 by Fab4 added text Quote
kmmcrafts Posted yesterday at 03:47 PM Author Posted yesterday at 03:47 PM Okay, I did a couple designs and looking for feedback on these or any other suggestions. I did a real quick red paint on the heart. Not a great job as I didn’t have my glasses on but you get the idea with that. Quote
jerry walters Posted yesterday at 04:07 PM Posted yesterday at 04:07 PM I like the one with the scroll saw. I'm not much of one for ideas. Jerry kmmcrafts and Horseshoe 1 1 Quote

meflick Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Nice work Kevin, a good variety of designs are good to offer as other people besides scrollers or scrollers who do multiple types of wood working (carving, turning, bandsaw boxes, etc.) might be interested in ordering some for use on projects. Quote
