    Maltese Puppy

This project started in a reverse order to the usual format. This beautiful piece of mahogany was given to me by a friend. It was 13' x 10" x 1 3/8" thick. I was thinking of various subjects when I decided to check out the patterns in the Scrollsaw Village Patterns Section. When I saw the fantastic "Maltese Puppy" by superb pattern designer, Jim Blume, I knew this would work very well for this project. The wood was sanded, the edges were routed, and the pattern was attached with 3M spray adhesive. Pilot holes were drilled and the scroll work was completed with spiral blades. The carving was completed using a Foredom Rotary Power Carver and the fur was produced with multiple passes with the top edges of three different sizes of columnar bits. The puppy was colored with Minwax Polycrylic Finish and artist acrylic paints. The background was finished with multiple coats of polyurethane finish. Thank you Jim, for the beautiful design of this pattern. Dick

  2. What needs to be done Dave is provide ample air circulation around all sides of the wood. The best way to achieve this is either lean the boards against a wall or work bench so air can circulate or stack and sticker the boards. That entails placing stickers or sticks between each board with weight on the top board. Leave the boards alone until they acclimate to your shops humidity or lack of.

    Rubber Duckie

This will be a birthday gift for my sister. She has a collection of rubber ducks. I thought I would add to it. Woods used: Poplar, Aspen, Tigerwood, Paduk and Walnut. Cut with #5 mg blade. Beeswax butter for the finish.

    Shop Re-Do (Kinda)

I have no wall space. My stack tool box is full to the max. Remember, I sold tools for 40 years and I was my best customer.

Ray, Here's what I did in my shop for a lot of my hand tools. Do you have enough wall space to do this? Also I have a smallish stand alone stackable toolbox. It's the red one on the right, I use as much wall space as possible.

  8. Sorry you are having this problems but tells me why many farmers from your country are establishing here in Saskatchewan. Saw Bird sells these blades from Estevan, Saskatchewan,Canada He ships to me quickly and easily however your mail conditions would still be a problem

    Thin Wood Humidor?

  14. I admit I know nothing about that particular saw but I would ask if the insert around the blade is still available. That is a rather large hole where parts (pieces) could drop through as well as possibly creating vibration in thinner pieces of wood without the support on the bottom. It may be possible that you can cut a new insert. Good luck.

  15. Have you checked out https://woodenteddybear.com/collections/flying-dutchman-scroll-saw-blades Same company as Mikes Workshop. They say they ship internationally via UPSP. I have order gross at a time to Canada and I have any problems. Never been stuck at customs. Usually take a week to 10 days. Are you looking for 2/0. They have those listed in ultra reverse and scroll reverse.

    Scroll Saw Blades

Just curious, are you able to receive mail from outside the country? There may be folks on here who could send you what you need. I have no experience at doing that but would it be possible?

  17. My 2 cents worth. If you are in need of a machine and this one works as stated, for that price, you almost can't go wrong. But, with that said, be on the look out for a better machine in the future. Have you checked around to see what else is out there? Not knowing where you are located, we can't suggest anything. In my area, there are some great saws at very reasonable prices. Best of luck in whatever you choose to do.

  18. Finished this beautiful Russ Beard pattern, double stacked on 1/8” Baltic Birch Plywood, cut with Niqua #0 Pin Less Straight blades, needs to be Oiled and a framed. This will be my last cutting for a while I have run out of blades. It is what it is, circumstances.

  21. I personally do not like a tool to change a blade. I had a problem with my Hegner saw because you needed a wrench to change a blade too but at least you could take the clamp off the saw and work on it at eye level. You have to be a contortionist to use that wrench under a saw and the older you get the harder it is to do that. Again my opinion. And that is why it drives me NUTS.
    1 point
  22. The tool is only used on the bottom clamp, usually only when the blade needs changing, and I can't see why it would drive anyone nuts. The top clamp you only need to flick 2 levers when going to a new hole, which can be done in under 15 seconds, that is, switch the machine off, release tension, release blade clamp, take blade out of cut hole, insert into new hole, close top blade clamp, reapply tension and switch machine back on. As for spares, the only thing I have found that cannot be replaced is the Quickset top clamp, anything else could be made or found from engineering suppliers.

  23. Your question was would you buy this saw and my answer would be NO. As mentioned parts can be a problem and if I remember correctly that saw uses a tool to change blades that would drive me nuts. better options out there. My opinion only.

    My Oasis

Just wanted to share with everyone that after a few decades of scrolling and trying to find a setup that felt "right" to me, I think I've finally found it. The 16" King will be going to my daughter in October as she's interested in scrolling, and will be replaced with a 21". Though about the 30" but I really don't need anything that big. Still love my P-20!

    Shop Re-Do (Kinda)

A vast improvement for sure. I wish I had that much room. My problem is, when we moved in, the first thing I did was buy a stacked tool box and an 8 foot long maple topped work bench. I've tried thinking of how to change my shop around but as long as I have those two things, I can't do much. I wonder how others organize all their small hand tools. Wrenches, socket sets, pliers, screwdrivers etc. You did yourself a lot of good in how you've cleaned and organized. Hat's off to ya.

    Long/Large piece help

I'm an advocate for spiral blades, but sometimes they just aren't suitable for the piece being cut. In those cases, I do much like JT and just stand and bend awkwardly to make the cuts that are difficult to reach. I ty to avoid this situation whenever possible, but sometimes it just isn't feasible.

  44. Wooden Teddy Bear have told me that #0 Blades would be a special import for them as it’s not a stock item. (for now I can still get #1 blades but am concerned that they will not be able to handle the tight inside corners of the Fretwork Complex work I do). UPS is totally inflexible with their courier fees into our country. We can’t buy Seyco, Pegasus and de Walt Scroll Saws in our country ( well let me correct that statement you can if you are prepared to pay three times the value of the saw, for instance a 21” Pegasus saw would cost us about $3000 which includes courier and import duties could be more). Furthermore all state owned entities i.e. postal Service, Airline, Rail, Water Supply etc. is is in a state of collapse due this communistic corrupt government
