  1. that looks great,
  2. Steve I cut the letters out out cypress and then glued them to the banner. I was going to usu walnut but there was already alot of walnut, and I took an easy way I already had the cypress planed down. I should have used a darker wood, but when i tested it against the poplar, it was fine. The lettering does show up more than the picture shows. I thought the same about intarisia until I tried it, now it is about all I do, and I can't keep them around they sell fast. Just find a simple pattern and dive in head first.
  3. all 3 are very well done.

    looks great,excellent job
  5. I agree with Steve and Marshall about spirals. I used them a few times but just can't get the hang of them .
  6. excellent cutting Chris
  7. lots of sanding and patience but in the end it isall worth it. I really enjoy doing intarsia
  8. I don't know about the craftsman. I use a Dremel 1800 and really like it. I've had it about 5 years now and really no major problems. I paid around 240 when I bought it. It gets a lot of use too, I'm hoping I can get a couple more years out of it, until I can afford the Hawk I want.

Hi and welcome to the Village. There are lots of great people here. Have a look around and jump in.
  10. Hi Patty and welcome to your new addiction. I agree with Steve, use the smallest bit possible. On areas where the hole is visible I just widen the cut to make the hole invisible, sometimes this is still not completey possible but do the best you can.
  11. Here is my latest intarsia. I have 22.5 hours in this one. It measures 30 x 34. and has 91 pieces. The woods I used are walnut, poplar, aspen, yellowheart, bloodwood, and cypress. This one has already sold, and I have an order for another one but instead of the banner he wants a fish in its claws. The banner says in god we trust but doesn't show very well in the picture.
  12. Hi Clint and welcome to the Village.
  13. mine is between 2- 3 feet away. Actually I didn't have a big box fan, instead I use a double window fan. This works better for me because of the size of my shop and it hangs from my rafters (only 6 1/2 foot ceiling).
  14. looks great Marshall
  15. yes Merlin you put the filter on the back of the fan so when the fan is running it sucks the dust into the filter. and I keep it pointed away from me so the filter is actually facing me. It works attracks a lot of the dust(not all) but helps. it also helps circulate the air in my shop
  16. looks great, this is on my cut list too.
  17. Hi Tony and welcome to the village. I sell my items too, don't get rich by anymeans. But I sell enough to keep my addiction supplied with wood, blades, and sometimes tools if I save enough.
  18. Hi Rob and welcome to the village
  19. hi Steve and welcome to the village.
  20. looks great. is that your pattern
  21. I have a shop vac the I use to collect the dust, But for the fine dust I have a window fan(box fan) with a furnace filter attached to the back side. So when the fan is running it pulls most of the fine dust into the filter This is a cheap way to get an "air filter" and it works pretty well. You should see all the dust thats in the filter when I'm done working. When the filter gets loaded it just clean it off with the shop vac, If it gets to bad, just replace with another 2 - 3 dollar filter. This also helps circulate heat in the my shop.
  22. congrats to you all
  23. looks great can't wait to see it with the finish on it.
  24. excellent cutting, I used to use pine alot, but always stained it. It never came out very good, after seeing yours I may try pine again this time with no stain
