  1. Too cool! Len
  2. Nicely done Helmut, is this one of your designs? Len
  3. Good looking chair Dan, it should get lots of admirers. Len
  4. Go ahead, use those patterns that's what they're there for. Just don't claim the pattern as your design, give credit to the pattern maker. Most of the patterns that are on the internet that you can download for free, won't be an issue unless you claim you made the pattern. Mainly what this discussion is about, is the use of patterns that were issued in a magazine that is no longer in business. Len
  5. Huh, doesn't do a thing for me, I live in Canada so I'd rather see a Canadian one. Just kidding Russell, this is very interesting I saw it somewhere else. Len
  6. Yes Dick, they probably have purchased the rights from Disney. And just because they had permission to print the images, doesn't mean they have the right to give another entity the right to use the image for anything other than to paint it. I know this from personal experience, and it's not a nice experience to go through. It wasn't anything I had done, but, my daughter was a minor so I was considered responsible for her actions. Thankfully, it was a company that had a heart and they let us go with a warning. Legally, I'm not allowed to mention the companies name, they say that doing so could negatively affect the company. If anyone, I thought that Disney might be one to worry about, but she didn't do much Disney work. It cost me a few bucks in legal fees , but, not near what it could have cost me. Since then I've been very cautious about what I cut. My lawyer informed me, that now that I've been issued a warning for this, I'm open to more in penilties than someone who has not been issued a warning. Len
  7. Good save John, actually, if you hadn't mentioned it, I don't think it would have been noticed by anyone. Len
  8. Scott, that's a very interesting looking vase, you did a great job. Len
  9. Kevin, practice makes perfect they say, so lets just count yesterdays work as practice. Len
  10. Pete, what are you apoligizing for? We enjoy admiring your work. there's no need to apologize. Len
  11. Wow Rick, what an amazing piece, it's definitely one to be proud of. For a piece like this, I prefer either a semi-gloss or flat finish. The problem with a gloss finish, is that it will highlight any and all flaws. I'm not saying that there is flaws in your work, but, with pieces like this it's almost impossible not to miss some little thing. I anxiously await seeing the completed piece, it should be outstanding. Len
  12. Nicely done Al, Is this the first one of these that you've made? Len
  13. Tony, a person would never know that you don't do much intarsia work, after viewing this piece. It'a an amazing piece, you got near perfectly matched joints. Len
  14. Nicely done Loren, that little owl is super cute. Len
  15. I use to have six mags that I subscribed to, now, I don't have any. I dropped the last one a couple of months ago, I finally realized that they were full of nothing but advertisements. Len
  16. DW, it's fine to use white oak outdoors, but, you should aviod using red oak for outdoor projects. White oak will stand up to the conditions, red oak won't last nearly as long. Len
  17. Cool puzzle Jim, what's the size of it? Len
  18. Dave, what a truck, it's one of the nicest that I've ever seen. I'm very interested in making one of these, do you have the internet address for Toys & Joys? Maybe I can find them with a google search. Len
  19. Paul, it's a nice looking cutting, the video was pretty cool also. Len
  20. I don't know Kevin, if beer is making you this stupid, maybe it's time to get constipated. Len
  21. Nicely done Kevin, what's the reason for the handicapped parking pass? Len
  22. Jim, it's an outstanding cutting, I like the look of it cut out of oak. Personally, I don't think it would look as nice, if it was cut out of BB. But, that's just me. If you don't care for how it looks presently, you could try framing it with a border. Depending upon what color you would use, the cutting will look a lot different. Len
  23. Well Tony, it's up to you to think what you like, but, just because you think it, doesn't make you right. Yes, you can get away with making a few copyrighted items, but, if you make enough of these items to make a large amount of money you could be sued. Just because you don't hear of a lot of these cases, doesn't mean that it is alright to do so. I know from personal experiences, that they will come after you. They did me and my daughter, and it's a bit nerve racking. It was explained to me why they came after us, and the explanation was, that we were making to much money and not sharing it with the copyright holder. Legally, I cannot mention the name of the company, but, they are fairly large in size. We never thought that we would run into this kind of issue, we were of the frame of mind that we were to small for anyone to care about what we made. We were wrong, but, thankfully it didn't cost us much. But, it did teach us a lesson. I do hope that your way of thinking, doesn't get you in trouble. Len
  24. Steve, if you try what Ike has suggested, I think you'll have better luck. Then, if the drill bit still clogs up, you'll just have to clean the channels with a small brush. Len
  25. Al, it's a great looking cutting. It doesn't need more detail, as long as your satisfied with how it looks. Patterns are only a guideline, making changes with them is common. Len
