  1. Careful there Roly , Talking about saved souls might get someone upset cause we ain't being politically correct. Lord knows we don't want to ruffle any religious fethhers. Dang now i went and dun it and said Lord. We gunna get in trouble with the managment LOL LOL LOL Anonymus
  2. Don God has a reason for all things, might be a blessing in disguise. For future refrence turn buttons are perfect for pictures . small packs can be pricy but in bulk online they are reasonable. sully
  3. Sorry david had company again and was watching the neighbors move i hope. This time they didn't bring the boat LOL. Won't be there next week as we will be in Boone doing a show and we will stay the nite there watching the fireworks. What time est is chat on thursdays?. sully
  4. Most of my tools have the gaurds removed but i'm 3 times as carefull with them , however my radial saw has all the gaurds in place. something about that one tool says i'm gonna get you sucka LOL. Thank God the only time a tool hurt me was my fault of course useing a biscuit cutter and trying to hold the peice in my hand. 18 stitches later i learned a lesson -- clamps are for clamping ??? I agree with all said be safe sully
  5. Rocky as far as blade tension what i do with mine and it takes a little practice is once you have the blade in the top clamp put a litle downward pressure on the clamp they tighten the thumb screw. Mine is an older 788 but it should work for yours as well. You don't need much pressure, this should help. also you may want to invest in a upper arm lift to help hold the arm up. I went the homemade way and use a bungie cord to a steel bracket bolted to the back of my stand. Experiment with what works for you. sully
  6. hello and welcome to the villiage rocky sully
  7. David great tip there. Arlene i noticed in your profile it says that you have a craftsman saw, I beleive there is a adapter that can convert your saw to straight pinless blades. And BTW welcome to the villiage , let us know if we can help. sully
  8. Doc you did great on daves pattern sully
  9. Kevin it was great and we hope to help make SSV just as great and fun in the future, we just need to wake some sleeping folks up here and get them fired up about scrollin and woodworking. every site has their members that are real active and then some who are a little active . You know what i'm talkin about, we need to shake out them sleepin bedbugs that only come out when they need or want something from the forum not to contribute. Sorry i'm ranting--- i tend to do that about scrollin and the Lord. sully
  10. Fab thats it exactly. David thanks so much it worked perfect. put my last supper in and 361 cuts, saved me a lot of counting !!! sully
  11. Hey ya stu ,welcome to the villiage sully
  12. Wow where to start-- in december of 2009 i was diagnosed with esophogeal cancer and told that i had about 15% chance of living a year, went thru chemo & radiation spring of 2010 and surgery as well in april of 2010. My wife and i had been doing shows of and on since 2006. I of course had to quit work and all of it took it's toll on my body but not my spirit then in the later half of 2010 i developed atrial fibrolation that put me in the hospital about every 9 days. Had a cardiac ablasion done in dec. 2010. I allways loved woodworking but never found my niche. Saw a scroller at a show we did in boone and got the bug. That was around november of 2010. I bought a Skil scrollsaw at lowes and started cutting ornaments then progressed to portraits and fretwork. When people ask me how i do it i tell them it's a gift from God. I truly beleive it because this is what i can do but every time i try to do "real work" it almost kills me physically. I can cut for 10 - 12 hours a day and love it. Thats my story and i'm stickin to it lol sully
  13. Thanks david, perfect timing ,i was going to have to count the cuts on my last supper but this will help bunches. sully
  14. Now thats the Bob i know hehehehe sully
  15. Bob ,i use my belt sander every day , mines a 6" delta. I never take the tension off and don't have a problem with it. Now i've heard and been told that we need to remove tension on bandsaws but i still leave mine under tension ??? sully
  16. Harry first off welcome, second it's not so much about the quality of the saw as it is about blades. Use the cheap box store blades for a while but then look into some of the better blades available online or maybe some of your mates on that side of the pond can direct you where to by local . have fun and by all means ask us questions , we are here to help and make scrollin fun . sully
  17. I knew you couldn't stay out for long lol. your secret identity is safe with us --- for a small nominal fee of course !!!! sully
  18. Hi Arlene good to see ya here. Feel free to ask questions, we are here to help you be a better scroller and woodworker and to get the most fun from your hobby. We all have been where you are so please ask for help when you need it. Don't forget to show us some of your work sully
  19. Well hiya Judy didn't recocnize ya sully
  20. Danny ,took ya long enough to get over here LOL. But yer right we need to make some dust so lets get scrollin sully
  21. I need all the light i can get LOL I actualy have 2 florecent fixtures over my saw 80 watts each, Then have 4 can recesed lights with 65 watt floods in them, and a light flex mounted 1' from the saw with a 40 watt flood in it. Shadows really made it hard for me to see the blade on the edge of the black. Another thing i do is to take the pattern to gimp and lighten the black to grey so the blade doesn't blend as bad into the pattern. sully
  22. Looks great Tag, What kind of blade did you use and size ? i've always wanted to try portraits in corian just didn't know how it would cut sully
  23. Used to switch to reading glasses when i scrolled but finally went to bifocals noline and it has made a world of difference for me . Also i have 20,000 watts shining on my saw and that helps a lot more than the glasses hehehehehe. sully
