  1. You hug your saw or saws in my case after not seeing them for a few days. LOL That reminds me i need to run and hug my saw . sully
  2. I love to fish but rarely do. But settin in a hut, on ice, with a heater runnin !!!!! Sorry not for me no matter how many Lil Debbies ya got !!!! And there is always room for the saw lol lol lol. Use the dust to camouflage the hole from the polar bears. sully
  3. Here's my take on my scrolling and shows. First and most important to me is I only cut what I like and don't do any "custom " work. No presure on me to meet customer expectations. If they don't like my stuff they don't have to buy it. Also being as my ability to scroll is sent from the Lord and inspired from the Lord i have the added joy of being able to talk to people about the Lord thru my scrolling. Those that know me well know that I love to chat it up ,so talking to customers is right up my alley LOL. It does get old sometimes not selling anything but we have a number of products to sell so most of the time we do at least ok. Everyone just needs to find their niche at shows. I will say i have never been put down by a customer directly about my scrollin but it's insulting when they want you to sell it to them for nuttin !!! Hey just my 2 cents worth sully
  4. Dick I use gimp for all my patterns and use Inkscape for cleaning them up. I start by getting it to grayscale up on colors - then i go to filters and artistic/photocopy where i adjust the sliders for the best resolution. From there i mainly use the pencil to add or remove area's i want and then the bucket fill set to black to check for floaters. Hope this helps. sully
  5. Dick, in order to help first we need to know what program you are using ? Gimp , Inkscape, or another program. Also whether you want this to be a line drawing or more detailed fretwork style. We're here to help with a lot of different ways to do this. The one you posted does have some major floaters but those can be fixed with little effort. sully
  6. I make all my own frames. Most of the time they are 5/8 - 3/4 thick and i dado a groove in the back 3/8" deep and 3/8 wide on my table saw. I say dado as i use a dado blade not a rabbeting bit on my router table - just easier for me. I miter the corners on my miter saw, round over the edges and nail with a frame v-nailer. then i sand and finish. I use 1/4" ply for my portraits and nail them into the frames with a Logan point stapler. No glass just felt on the back. hope this helps. Frames are not hard to make just time consuming one at a time. I do 30 frames at a time to have them ready when needed. sully
  7. Seen it at BB stores, basically it's a table mounted jigsaw but not a scrollsaw. sully
  8. No it's a remote control to lock yer saw to prevent unauthorized use . sully
  9. I use #5 FDUR all the time on ply and other hardwoods. Poplar is a rotten hardwood to scroll with because it is much like pine and cedar except it is classified as a hardwood mainly because it looses it's leaves in the fall. I prefer not to use it for my scrolling due to the fuzzies. sully
  10. I don't mind the chips i make from planing as i spread them on my flower beds as mulch. Doesn't solve yer problem but hey it might be useful to gardeners . sully
  11. Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse , by far the best blades on the mkt. Mike is the best !!!!!!!! sully
  12. Phil no disrespect but you suck !!!! open that sucker and make dust LOL. sully
  13. I use plain ole masking tape, stack 4 plys clamp then tape the corners. Works well for me. sully
  14. Might also try a strap clamp or as said before large rubber bands sully
  15. Here in the US they call it a time out chair. What it needs in the chair is nails facing up or maybe a stun gun facing up to remind them why they are there. But then that would not be PC , maybe thats what we need to do to all the chairs in Washington DC. so that our elected officials remember why they are there. OOOPPPPPSSSS now i'll never get my SSI back sully
  16. Dan sure do miss the good ole days. My son still calls me SIR and he's 30 years old !! The biggest reason kids are the way they are is that our " society" is to lazy to smack their kids on the behind when they need it. I see it all the time at shows - It irks my wife to no end when i tell kids of any age "don't touch they are not toys!!!" As far as i'm concerned if feelings get hurt they can just get over it !!!! I was raised in a military family and if ya screwed up ya payed the price - right there right then. My shop is my sanctuary from all the PCBS out there. My motto "make sawdust not enemies" sully
  17. Nope pearls are jewelry LOL some shows are slow . sully
  18. The flying dutchman ultra reverse are the best to use.Mike has great prices and service. sully
  19. Dan , I'd stick with inkscape and also gimp , both are free and unless it does miracles corel probably isn't worth it. just my 2 cents sully
  20. I'm sure they do but don't know where to look. Might do a web search or check online at Lowes sully
  21. Ditto whats been said so far, also word art sells really good if it's cute ,pretty or faith based. Framing them helps and you can raise your price some. sully
  22. Ray ,I have used the water based clear poly on all my projects and even my benches have set out in the rain at shows with no spots or turning white. Currently i'm useing Rustoleum brand and it does well. sully
  23. Berry in relation to advertisements probably a no but as far as mentioning usefull suppliers for fellow scrollers thats ok. We are always looking for good suppliers. So a link is a great way to steer use that way. sully
  24. I had a request from one of our members to assist him on where to look for craft shows in his area so I thought i would pass this info on to all. First off understand that my wife and i have more than just my woodworking that we sell at shows.Don't be missled and think you can make $1000 just with scrollin , IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN !!!! We have 6 different products and sometimes they sell other times they don't. Having my wife with me at shows is a BIG plus, 2 people manning a booth is best. Ok now as far as finding shows i use 2 sites primarily, you don't have to join and pay to get listings in your area but if you want details and contact info from the site you have to pay to be a member. The two sites are www.craftlister.com and www.festivalnetwork.com .You can do a search to see dates and locations for shows so keep a notepad handy to take notes. Then do a web search for a particular show you want. Most good shows have their own websites and all the info you will need is right there along with applications for the shows that you can download. Many times all i've had is a phone number to go by or a email to go by. Also when you do a show pick the brains of other vendors for info, being freindly can net some great shows. And last and probably most important BE PATIENT ,every show will not be your best and it's a learning curve, we've been doing this for 8 years and we still have crudy shows. Hope this helps someone out that wants to try shows so have fun most of all. sully
  25. I primarily use gimp but do use inkscape for doing bitmap copys and other things. both are good and FREE sully
