  1. I purchased the 2021 pattern book not to make ornaments or patterns to sell but because I loved the designs. A friend collects angels so this was perfect. I have cut a couple so far and these are really easy as not too many holes. The angel below uses a different font a getting 9 character name in was bit of a challenge. I added the year for fun. Thank you to Travis for these.
  2. Welcome to the village. It is a great place to learn and if you have any questions this is the place to ask, I too am retired and fell in love with scrolling about 10 years ago. One thing you should do is sign up with Steve Good for his daily email. He has a catalogue of over 3,000 patterns and has lots of videos. https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/ Travis has a great book on making personalized ornaments here but if you are not up to doing your own order from Steve, Your family will love it.
  3. My go to bladed is #5 FD polar but it really depends on you and the wood. Recently I had some cherry that was burning on the corners and I changed to #5 Pegas MGT and it worked great. One thing I found is cutting real hardwood is to wrap the blank in packing tape. It seem to lubricate the blade and stops burning.
  4. Thanks I thought I had all Diana Thompson's patterns but that must have been added lately. It is cute. Cutting birdhouses is addictive. I have cut probably around 200 of the little things.
  5. I know I have done the bottom one and was able to get a screw eye in the middle. Like Dan I use 5mm that I get from Lee Valley for $3 US for 100 I have not seen the top one but I assume it would be the same. Where did the tulip pattern come from.? Don
  6. A two sided ornament. When you paint both sides they are the same except opposite. I stack cut in 1/8 BB. My own pattern.
  7. My design. I will probably submit pattern to charity book if I can come up with a couple more ideas. Pm me your email and I'll send svg or pdf
  8. Layered 1/8 inch on 1/8. Some of the pieces small to paint so better half going to try an paint next time but not layered.
  9. What are you sanding? Flat items or ornaments. Intarsia?
  10. Steve Good has an article at https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2017_10_11_archive.html That is how I have always done it but it assumes a square pattern. There are lots of videos that show cutting freehand. Here is one about the locks.https://youtu.be/lfxJ_eKGqvI
  11. Halloween my favorite time of the year next to Christmas. This is my chute from last year. I am working on revisions as last year was a done quickly due to covid. We have a lot of families in the neighborhood so we expect a 150 or more.. I hope movie plays. Movie doesn't play so I uploaded to YouTube. https://youtu.be/YYwsc0VFnk4 MVI_8189.MOV
  12. Love them. Do you have the approx size.
  13. Congrats. I am sure it is the same as the original Excalibur series. I have the EX-21 - great saw. I had the original saw 8 years before I put on the Pegas Chuck head. There is a some difference but I found not a lot so I would try it out first.
  14. Well done. Mini birdhouses are my favorite thing to do. One thing I do is fill the hole with moss. Denny I really like the last one and I don't think I have that pattern. Is that a Diana pattern? Thanks for posting.
  15. With thick hardwood I always wrap with box tape. I seems to help. I also experiment with blades. If my go-to blade, FD-UR #5, doesn't work I try the MGT or my best luck comes with the FD polar blades. As Denny says you do not want the reverse teeth. Padauk is 1725 on the hardness scale and purple heart is 2090 which I have cut bird houses with polar blades. (slowly)
  16. I made my own pattern of a goat a few years ago. I just took a silhouette and replicated for front and back removing tail and udder. Middle has tail and udder but no horns or legs. The middle also has slot and hole to get coins out. The big problem was cutting the plexi and affixing. It would be much easier with a hardware you get from Paul Meisel. WHY a goat. I made a deal with my grandkids that if they filled the goat we would buy a couple of goats from UNICEF. Actually they had enough in the goat to buy 2 (their parents stuffed it) and so I bought 2 more. Fun to teach them about donating and what a goat means to an African family.
  17. I did a couple a few years ago and still have one here. It is just a round circle about 1 inch. Added 4 legs of 1/8 dowel. Whole stool is about 1 1/2 high.
  18. Thank you. I have issue 60 on DVD and so I could get into Inkscape easily. I want to make bigger and I think I will play with the bugs too. Thanks again.
  19. I really like this. Very cool. Do you have the link to Steve's pattern. I searched every which way and can't find. Thanks
  20. PM sent.
  21. There is a lot Banksy going around and this is my favorite. Well done. Love it. Where on Facebook? My daughter is a principal with lots of challenges in getting her school going and this just might make her day. Thanks for posting.
  22. I used to buy 12 inch pine shelving at home depot cheap. There were some big knots but I used to pick thru the pile and end up with some good clear pine. I went the other day and it was laminated and about a lot more money. I could not find anything that I could rip down to come up with what I wanted. It laminate strips are small and different colours. I did buy one as I am going to paint a project so the laminate hopefully won't show. I ended up buying clear pine.
  23. This is project number 1. I went to a course at the Durham Woodworking Club put on by Don Gaudet and we cut this Wolf. I had an old Craftsman single speed with pin blades. Never knew about patterns being available, pin less blades, threading the blade, or why the table tilted. We where using DW788 that did not vibrate like crazy. That was on Saturday. I researched machines and ordered a EX-21 on Tuesday - delivered Friday and as they say the rest is history. Best $4 I ever spent.
  24. I know this is an older post but I would like to know what you use for paint. Is it approved as child safe? I have used vegetable dye but it is not bright. Thanks
