  1. It even made me nervous at times
  2. Thanks everyone for your compliments
  3. Its just cheap ply wood three different colors even so I'll have to do something with it.
  4. I'll bet the one you made is a lot cheaper, just kidding nice job will come in handy some day when the itch strikes you.
  5. I made this for my nephews wedding It will sit on the head table so I'm not sure as to what color I'm going to stain it but I'm leaning towards a maple with a satin varnish all depends on the theme. This pattern is from Russia.
  6. I hope you don't spend a day cutting before you realize what you've done like I did? Kevin
  7. Great news now you got to catch up making sawdust so up and at em.
  8. I printed out this beautiful wine bottle holder that I was going to cut out for my nephews wedding, well I printed all the pieces but neglected to see if the pieces were at least compatible well after spending the whole day cutting I found out they weren't. but at least I figured out what caused it, when you print your pattern the computer will ask you full sheet I always reply yes then the tricky question shrink to fit or crop to fit well as the other parts easily fit on the page it just skipped it but shrunk the bigger piece to fit it on one page, note to self always crop to fit so you see it. Lesson learned.
  9. You should also make sure there is no humming or any sign that the saw is jammed or bearing seized as that could cause it not to run
  10. This was all in my past life Roly I had a 2 bay garage stuffed full of tools and material but no more I now live In Mexico Yucatan where I work outside or in a bedroom that has air conditioning no shop sorry I own a router a jigsaw a dremmel and a dw788 saw thats her no more thats all I need for what I do. Oh pardon me I have a tiny drill press also.
  11. Guys guys guys none of these tools are a necessity, oh sure the manufacturer has you brainwashed into needing this, but really what happened to being craftsman. Meaning you made things, not some shiny piece of steel that you turned on made this. If we keep buying more toys eventually we will be categorized in the same league as the laser cutters. Lets face it the more tools you own and use the less you have to do with the outcome. The only tools I use are a scroll saw and I admit I'm to lazy to do it by hand, although I have met guys who still cut by hand and a dremmel to drill the holes which I agree is a luxury but other then that sandpaper is wrapped around sticks for that round contour, I use those little disposable nail files that I trim to size for sanding the inside cuts. other than that its sandpaper and elbow grease and I'm still proud to say I MADE THAT!
  12. Well not quite folks but its definitely time to start thinking about it and planning for a successful show right? I was in that rat race for many years when it suddenly dawned on me I was wasting my time. I would year after year prepare for the annual bazaar wow its huge this year about 400 tables sold wow...... I meant whoa! not wow. Every year I would toil in my shop trying to get enough pieces to fill my table and Year after year my friends or my wife's friends would stop by about 2-3 days before the show and buy up 1/4 of my inventory, so I had to start all over trying to fill this table for the Christmas bazaar, only to find I would come home after the bazaar with almost everything I made intact to be given away during the remainder of the year and some as Christmas presents to the friends who were to cheap to buy it from me in the first place. That's when that little light bulb came on and I decided to change things up a bit, First before I'll enlighten you all with my idea, well maybe not originally my idea but I thought of it at the time so it was my idea, let me ask you all a question, When you have a table in a hall with 400 other participants and your potential buyer walks through that door with a hundred dollars to spend and may I add that being liberal most people don't spend that much on bazaars, after all were all supposed to be amateurs meaning we don't make plastic things, but lets just for argument sake say 100 dollars how much of that hundred bucks will ever cross your table. if it was fair we would split it that means .25 cents each table but you know the kids cant make it past the hot dog stand and they have have a pop and then there is that pesky lady next to you that puts initials on chocolate she'll take a chunk out of your 25 cents. So in reality we may end up with a nickle if were really lucky and then they want 50 bucks for the table lets not forget that, all the while they are the ones that run that hot dog stand and are stealing your money. So After my last affair with the bazaar I decided our relationship was done, we just weren't meant for each other and we could not go on hurting one another any longer. My idea was all these friends that were buying me out could do a lot better, as they already liked my stuff I could offer them a first showing option. So by invitation only they were invited to a fun filled evening were they would have everything I made at there finger tips to buy at specially pre show prices ( just a little higher then the bazaar prices) I offered a hot malt wine while they made their purchases. You know what happened? They came to spend, they were prepared to lay out some good money as it was for a good friend who invited them to his home and gave them first option to purchase, they knew of the quality and every dollar that came through the door was mine, no table rent just the cost of the wine but the Wife would have drunk it anyways, also people were in a sense forced to buy something as they were almost to embarrassed not to. The only rules I made were you must sign the guest book with your mailing address and you must bring along a guest who is also required to fill in the guest book, they also received an invitation the following year, with in 4 years we had our own 400 people and had to make it a weekend affair. I stopped doing that and we opened a store called imagine that wood products. Something for all of us to toss around I think those craft and bazaar things have had it to good for to long. Have a nice day everyone. .../Hans
  13. It's sad when this happens but at the same time uplifting when you see a whole community like this with members from all over the globe come together to pray and wish your father a speedy recovery. Incredible. .../Hans
  14. Nice Job Fay I love the clock in it with the roman numerals fits the design well, keep up the good work.
  15. Well I thought I was different but it looks as though most scrollers make things because a pattern attracts them I do it simply because it challenges me, it keeps my mind of other things and it stops me from wasting my time in front of the tv. I have well over a hundred pieces so far and they seem to multiply daily I have no plan as to what to do with it all I give most of it away, my grand children love me. After the initial outlay for the saw there really is very little expense so I would rate this as a fairly cheap hobby I could spend more going to a bar daily so I'll keep cutting. Christmas time charities are a great time for me the thin out my stock.
  16. Luis Very nice toy A very sturdy bench is needed for this tool make it as heavy as you can, one thing about lathes I learned is that they love to walk around. When you first start to shape your round it will rattle rock and roll ,walk all over the floor if its not bolted down. Also you'll find using cement blocks on the lower shelve will stabilize it so when you come to the sanding and fine finishing you'll have less vibration. So to cut it short heavy bench and tons of weight. Have fun with it I have great memories of my time on the lathe.
  17. A wonderful piece Dick, but like everyone else I find the overall piece unfinished I personally would varnish the whole thing including the flower and think that will pull the whole thing together. Right now your eyes are drawn directly to the flower not the birdies where there is real beauty so you need to take that away and by varnishing the whole thing it will pull it together. I would use a mat Varnish not glossy you don't want it to jump of the picture and bite you so keep it down with a nice flat tint. A great piece just the same Dick you did well Congratulations on a piece of art and give your wife a big hug for suggesting it
  18. Not sure Marg if you could put anything in it, something light maybe its made of 3MM and some pieces like the frame are of 5MM and there is no glue on anything, its cut to precision to press fit together so not sure if I would even want to try, maybe if I went back and glued it all together.
  19. ¿Estás hablando de dólares o pesos Frank?
