  1. Fantastic work on both parts cutting and the pattern I would be proud to give that as a present WOW!
  2. Duane I used to spend a fortune on Magazines but after the internet came out and all the scroll saw sites starting to pop up I haven't had the need to for the outrageous prices the Magazine companies are charging with a 75% advertising content, The suggestions, help, and free patterns are all available right at your finger tips. And I would rather take the advise of the folks right here in the village and other scroll saw sites as well with the years of experience and trail and error then some editor sitting behind a desk who had a saw given to him in return for promoting their product. That kind of sums it up for me hope it shines some light on the subject for you.
  3. Cool A great piece nice idea and well done thanks for showing us.
  4. I know they are made here in Mexico but you can't buy them here, you can buy every other tool made by DeWalt but not the 788 I ended up having to import it from the US and ship it here and pay close to 300 duty.
  5. good looking basket Fay keep it up thanks for showing us.
  6. Fantastic work and congratulations in overcoming that fear I'm glad I have inspired you into trying more challenging cuts it opens doors to so many more beautiful patterns out there. I very happy for you, now throw away all your bunny and kitten patterns your are an artist. .../Hans
  7. I believe Type 1 were made in Canada and Type 2 abroad if I'm right its stamped right on your spec's tag on the side of the machine I know it is on mine it clearly says type 2 on it, check it out
  8. Beautiful cross its one of the nicest I've seen done great job I'm sure the aroma was more then pleasant as were the sneezes
  9. Great job john I concur with Doug using the #1 first and then chasing it with a #3 Spiral , One of the big advantage I find with spirals is that they make great rasps so you can actually shape something by rubbing the side of the spiral against the wood it works great I just did one piece today only using spirals it came out great. Yes I think you got it mastered Doug.
  10. Yes it gets stuck in between so to speak and I find by tapping the switch it moves it just enough, Facing the machine on the left hand site the lower screw closest to the table if you tighten it you don't need a lever to hold the arm up but always make sure when you put the arm down that it is all the way down or your tension-er won't work also don't over tighten.
  11. Beck I just checked out the Ferm web site I guess they only come with pin type so you're pretty well stuck with it until you upgrade. .../Hans
  12. Yes Becky makes perfect sense I think at one time or another we all owned a pin type saw now some saws will allow both types and some saws you can convert to pin less type not sure of yours but check with your manufacturer to see what they recommend you do. When you get into finer detailed work as you all ready discovered you're going to have to drill smaller holes and with the pin type your blade just won't fit. I had one of those machines 20 years ago and I know its a lot of work for 1 hour of usage before the blade is dull any way, I had a machine shop grind of the pins for me and re drill the blades and install a portable pin in them for me and I would only use those for special occasions like Sunday's and Christmas Other than that I don't know what else to suggest except for stick to outside cuts for now until you decide this is what you like to do as a hobby and then invest in a better machine.
  13. Hi Becky welcome to the village, lots of free patterns right here check them out lots to practice with if you want to find out something just ask they really are a friendly bunch. .../Hans
  14. Hello John Welcome to the village Make your self at home but not to comfortable cause you have sawdust to make and designer kindling so as soon as that new baby arrives we hope to see pictures of its products. The folks here are great if you need anything just ask. .../Hans
  15. Thanks everyone for your compliments .../Hans
  16. Roly He's on facebook and runs another facebook group but its closed so you have to befriend him first to get in but you can look at his page his copy of this car is on there. Oh he only speaks spanish, his page and the group is all spanish I'm so fortunate I speak 4 languages.
  17. No it was Designed by Sam Marquez its about 30" long and about a foot tall and even the steering works from the steering Wheel its a nice show piece I didn't bother with the doors to open its just to fragile.
  18. I've been working on this baby for a while now and were just in the finishing stages, just a little glueing and fine tuning the steering and look for a new project.
  19. John I've also noticed that you have to push them a bit harder which is why they get hard to control A spiral blade should not be pushed at all merely steered in the direction you want it to cut, of course there is always going to be some pressure on it but you'll find the less the better, one other thing I've noticed is there will be a lot more fuzzies when your blade gets dull as its not cutting clean. So these are some things to look for and if I may quote Pete they are only 30 cents a piece throw them away. Why are you using spirals John? not that there is anything wrong with it but when you first learn you generally start with straight blades so much easier. Not criticizing your decision I was only curious maybe some of the other member could comment on this I personally find it strange. All the best John with your new hobby and keep the questions comming .../Hans
  20. it looks hard Rusty but its one hole at the time no matter big or small
  21. Its a facebook page and it translates if you do the settings correctly
  22. Thanks for the compliments I'm really glad I've made a difference in your way of approaching the art of scroll sawing. The way I look at my larger cuts is there are 10 bunnies or 15 kittens in one of mine and the other difference is are you doing it to make money or is it a hobby? For me its strictly a hobby I have sold very few pieces and its not that people haven't asked to buy pieces. I used to own a store where I sold all my woodwork's and found it just doesn't pay as you just can't please everyone and my hobby became a job, I no longer enjoyed what I did and gave it up for many years. Now I'm back and swore I would never allow anyone to turn my hobby into a job again. So anyway if your doing it for the money I suggest to stay cutting small stuff as there is no money in the big stuff. but a lot more satisfaction. http://www.chudo-lob...va-bashnya.html Here is the site recommended by a lot of good scrollers I hope its worthy. Good luck Dick
  23. Hi Danny thanks for the positive feed back your not going to believe this but I'm not going to give you this pattern as it was no good Kevin and I had the same problems with it after you cut the whole thing it didn't go together very disappointed but I've been around the block a few times and cut my own tabs and in some cases cut the tabs right off and clued it together. So I did some checking around and this guy has good patterns according to the Egyptians scrollers and they are the best in the world in my book I download a lot of theirs its easy as there are no copy right issues to worry about check out some of their pages if you like intricate scroll sawing anyway this is where you'll find this guys pattern I hope it works for you just make sure before you cut you check and make sure things are going together or make the changes you need http://www.chudo-lobzik.ru/chertezhi-podelok/chertezh-podelki-ejfeleva-bashnya.html Good luck if you need any help give me a shout.
  24. Yes I know the feeling Kevin I've done the same if it really makes someone that happy who am I to deprive them after all I don't scroll for a living and I've had my fun making it so let someone else enjoy it Hats off to you sir for giving that one away but like you said it wasn't perfect so you keep seeing the flaws that only you know are there. We are our own worst critics for sure, mine came out perfect although I had to alter it in some fashion. Well have a nice day Kevin I'm working on a car right now 30" long about 12" high complete with working steering I think I'll be another week or so as this is one that I need to paint to really make it stand out.\
  25. Great work Roly I have a wiener dog that loves to catch mice she would love those for sure
