  1. I've had some Communication with him he's concerned about showing his works on the bragging page but he doesn't know the artist who designed it is it ok to post his work I say yes but not share the pattern. Although Frank and I are in a very unique position as Mexico never signed the copy right treaty so frank and I can share with each other.
  2. Note to self never cut another piece from a photo pattern people never have the right angle end result nothing is straight and nothing fits. What a day.
  3. Welcome to the village Ray, I hope you'll get the basics from your instructor and then pop over and start down loading some of the free patterns available here. Heck start browsing now, while your here you may want to check out the university where you can get lessons for free no students loans here they'll teach you how to create your own portrait need stuff Well don't be shy and mingle with the crowd. You'll soon learn who to avoid. Have fun here at the morning coffee. Good luck and again welcome. .../Hans
  4. Hi Todd welcome to the village first of all The Torx is a nice machine but not for the scrolling we do it is fine to cut crooked lines in 2 and 3" material but not for material 3-5MM thickness and radius cuts of even less, second the rockwell 405 is a good machine from what I have read so far but I'm not sure if it comes with a pinless blade attachment, if not your going to be forced to use pin type blades which in our case again useless. Unless off course you have no intentions on making internal cuts. then the pin type are fine. I just not certain of what is available to you as far as machines go as we live in opposite necks of the woods I know your on a low budget so here are some names of north american scroll saw companies that you may be able to find where you live, now these are low end machines but will serve you well for a long time and they do have blade attachments available. Delta, Black and Decker, Bosch, Makita, Sears, Dremmel there that should get you started so a 14-16" should do fine for starters and make sure you get pinless. Goodluck Todd .../Hans

  8. Yes of course the layers of veneer are glued together to make plywood but I used no glue to put the stage coach together I prefer to use a press fit.

  11. So sorry to hear of your loss Dan, like so many others I have lost several of my best friends myself and its never is easy, but I know they are all waiting for me at that Rainbow bridge, so once I get there we'll all be back together. Take care my friend. .../Hans
  12. I guess I just don't fit any of the categories as wood is just one of the many materials I use in my craft/ art/ hobby I also make things out of stone sea, shells I engrave egg shells glass plastic and even steel oh yes and wood so I just don't belong here. snif...snif... snif, I'll miss you guys.
  13. Your welcome for the welcome John

  15. Great pieces Luis nicely finished, I love barbless hooks.
  16. Well Wesley your deer picture is wonderful for a first attempt All though hard to see but it appears you used a spiral blade for at least a part of the picture, no problem if the blade would have been in the right direction (pointing down) I see a lot of chip out on the top of the plywood indicating the upside down blade, you had some difficulty turning when you used a straight blade but that all comes with practice overall I grade this as a A for effort, the duck on the other hand is excellent It appears to be cut with a straight blade and you did a fantastic job this my friend is a very sellable portrait no problem keep it up. As for plywood you're not going to get much better quality for scrolling then birch but when you buy it be selective don't settle for the top sheet on the pile. Good luck and keep the pictures coming. .../Hans

  20. Depending on thickness and material but generally on my DW788 I run at about a 4 for tightness I go 3-4 or tighter if i'm cutting a lot of straight lines. Unlike straight blades the spirals are unforgiving when they have lost their edge I mean dull, don't force them on cause they'll make a mess. They will go left when you want to go right well to put it quite bluntly they'll do everything to tick you off. change them as soon as you notice strange things happening and check them often by grasping them between your thumb and forefinger you'll have to experiment with the feel, try a new blade then a dull blade you'll see what I mean. When you use the spiral try not to force the wood into the blade but rather let the blade pull the wood into it all you need to do is steer with very little pressure. When you see the blade dragging behind, the blade needs to catch up so just release your pressure. Make really sure that before you come to say a 90 degree turn that your blade is square and not dragging behind cause your not going to have a very sharp corner. Grab some scrap wood and practice Ike, once you master the spiral you'll rarely go back to straight blades. .../Hans
  21. Thanks everyone for your compliments I truly appreciate them.
  22. No not full time but I do put a lot of time in to it, I'm a bachelor so I can do what I want and when I want to do it I'm also retired so there is no more work, as you know that leaves a lot of available time. My biggest fear about getting a job in Heaven is that I only get to cut angels. .../Hans
  23. Lately I haven't used anything besides FD spirals I found ones you master them there is really no need for any straight blades except maybe if you have a lot of or a very long straight run then I may change to a straight blade, Just my opinion. .../Hans
  24. No Ike not my pattern , I made some changes but not mine I found it in my collection of "one day I'll cut this" file there is no signature on it.
