  9. my Wife had this figured out for me. I love these challenges, even though they are only for fun and no judging is going on. I missed the back to school challenge and I knew I just had to get on the Halloween Challenge. I told me wife that I wanted to try and post the spookiest Halloween Challenge item of all. When I told her about it, she said," if you want to post the spookiest piece, that should be an easy one for you. All you have to do is make a self portrait and cut it." Right away I knew she was correct and so that is just what I did. Hence, here is my entry for the Halloween Challenge. Dick heppnerguy
  10. John. You have to go into this type of fret work thinking, only one hole at a time. Eventually to come to the last hole and then... " You did it". I saw go for it, you will be glad you did Dick heppnerguy
  11. Jerry. The effort in not only cutting but finishing sure adds up to one really nice piece. I need to go back and take another look at it, as my finishing really is not very good, and I know it. Perhaps you have helped me to see better the value in attention, after a piece is cut Dick heppnerguy
  12. This is a good and informative thread. I do not know very much about table saws except that I always use them as cautiously as I can. I do not have any safety extras on my saw but I am going to look and see if I have any to put in place. I have been involved with a couple of kick backs and they are no fun. Fortunately for me it caused no permanent problems or loss of any fingers or eyes. With that said, I am now going to try and get everything that is a safety item installed on my saw. Thanks for all the input here and the wisdom of using the safety units for the table saw. I understand that most people do not use the hold downs on the scroll saw but that said, one would want to cut off a finger on scroll saw, I do not see how it would even be possible to do so. 13. You are such a big and important part of our world wide family and by the response you can see that you were dearly missed but now the house is in order again and we can get back to our focus because now things just seem right again Dick heppnerguy
  14. The way you are knocking them out, there will be no one that will not be able to connect to at least one of your clocks Dick heppnerguy
  15. nice little plaque that would please any fisherman or woman Dick heppnerguy
  16. Burma Shave was a shaving cream for men. During the late 1940's to maybe about 1960's, Burma Shave made a series of wooden signs that were placed beside the highways of the United States. Each sign was a part of a funny saying that made travelers want to read them for the humor. The very last of the series of signs always read, "Burma Shave" and looked like the sign posted by Rocky. The signs were spaced so that it would take about a minute of driving to get from the first sign to the Burma Shave sign. Here is an example of one that I remember vividly. sign one: It seems as when Sign 2: you try to pass Sign 3: The guy in front Sign 4: Steps on the gas Sign 5: Burma Shave Often all the passengers in the car would sat out loud... "Burma Shave" when they go to the final sign Now you know a little more about the signs that us older people remember so well. Of course they mean nothing to the younger set. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Before I moved to Arizona, I too had a lot of wood but couldn't move it with me so I sold some at give away prices and gave the rest away. Sure would like to have that now. Dick heppnerguy
  18. One of my granddaughters is getting married in November. In fact she is tying the knot the day before my wife and I celebrate our 57th anniversary. I have made several wedding plagues, using a couple of really nice patterns of Sue Mey's but this time I decided to make them something never seen before so I designed one especially for them. I have it cut and the only thing I am going to add to it is a small red heart between their names at the bottom of the plaque. Me wife really likes it so I sure hope it will be on the newly weds walls long after I have left this life as a memory of my wife and I. Oh, and I get to give her away at the wedding too. I am so excited about that honor. Hope you all like it also. sorry about the poor lighting in the photo. Dick heppnerguy
  19. Listen up, Kevin. The family here cares about you. Not so important to cut so many nice things for people as it is to take care of your health. Cut less and get rest. Dick heppnerguy
  20. nice pieces you are making and the wood is free on top of that. I had my kitchen remodeled a couple of years ago and I gave all my old cabinets to a friend for their kitchen and it turned out all were left outside and ruined. They were solid oak too. I would love to have it all back now.. Thank for posting all the great items you have cut from your recycled wood. Makes me open my eyes a little more now Dick heppnerguy
  21. a cool spooky idea.. Halloween is just around the corner and you have some new surprised awaiting the trick or treaters at your house this year. Fun project for sure Dick heppnerguy
  22. you have been a busy boy in your shop. Love this little guy. Another memory awakener from you.. Thanks for posting all the fun today Dick heppnerguy
  23. When you make your own pattern it better be in fun Because the boy owners might make you run Burma Shave Boy do I remember those signs along the roadways when I was young. They were so much fun because the messages on them made you want to read them. Now that was good advertising, if ever there was such a thing. I love the way you joggled my mind and made me smile with these. Dick heppnerguy
  24. Yesterday when I posted the pug and the Elvis cutting, I said I would not re-post them when I got them done, but, I came up with the idea of how to make a 'make believe frame' and added a few simple cutouts to it. I liked how it came out and thought it might be helpful or at least interesting to others to make their cutting just a little more appealing to the eye. so here is the results... I know it is nothing special but I think it is a simple solutions for some of the beginner scrollers, if nothing else. Dick heppnerguy
  25. Very outstanding piece. This should bring a ton of nice compliments your way. It is a very ambitious piece that you made into a master piece for sure Dick heppnerguy
