  1. good cutting... you ended up with a few well done pieces for sure... nice to share with friends Dick heppnerguy
  2. the sawdust is flying at your shop for sure.. I still have not made any animal puzzles of this kind.. they are cute and I am sure dog owners have to love them Dick heppnerguy
  3. I will post them when I get them done. It is an honor to be asked to make something for retiring service people. If it was someone I knew, personally, I would have made them for free. but that being said, I just love this hobby for many reasons. Dick heppnerguy
  4. Last summer a long time friend of mine retired from that Marine Corp as a full bird Colonel. I made an intarsia plaque of the Marine Corp insignia. It was congratulatory gift. Yesterday, I received a phone call from him requesting to purchase 2 more of them for friends of his that will be retiring this summer also. I told him they were a little on the spendy side and suggested that he might be interested in a scrolled plaque instead but when i told him the cost of the intarsia plaque, he replied. "perfect". So I now have a $200 request. That will easily take care of my next blade order and an other supplies that I may need for the next 2 months.. I love this hobby. Dick heppnerguy
  5. thank you for all who responded to this thread. It was a perfect match to her hummingbird cupboards. The gap in the frame was because I glued it and then instead of clamping it, I decided just to place a board on it and some weight. My mistake, it obviously shifted just a little, leaving the gap.. My daughter was not bothered by it so I am not going to loose any sleep over that Dick heppnerguy
  6. Very nice mirror indeed. I have not seen anyone else do this here Dick heppnerguy
  7. The beauty of your clock is something to just sit and stare at. I am starting to understand the difference between mediocre, good, marvelous and a truly talented scroller. It is not just how well a piece is cut..(that is 'good') assembling the cutting, assembly and finishing is about as good as it can be. .to move it up a notch is to also have a good sense of wood choices,on top to the 'good' category, then one moves to 'marvelous'.. In order to achieve 'marvelous' to 'truly talented' one needs to pick the material that makes the piece extra special and achieve a perfect cut, assembly and finish job and then make special efforts to ring out even more than a perfect job, as you did with this clock when you thought to place the woods to achieve the amazing effects on the floor and ceilings of this clock.. So to some it all up, you are a 'Truly Talented' person.. One of the nicest pieces I have ever seen. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Ron, we all can count on your workman skill to produce something this special. But I have to admit that I knew it would would be nice until I saw the open box.....well...........then I had the realization that this box had more going for it on the inside than I ever would have imagined for it. It is truly outstanding.....all the way through... Dick heppnerguy
  9. yes Randy, I noticed the support banner had become 4 dots instead. So I looked at others and saw several of them like mine that I knew were previous supporters so I decided to try and figure it out and sure enough my yearly support had indeed expired.. I got right on it and made my donation.. I would not want to loose what we all have here Dick heppnerguy
  10. They are cute little critters. The red eyes are a perfect touch...Way to go, Ralph Dick heppnerguy
  11. I just renewed my support. I am so happy to do so...I love this sight and all it continues to do for me.. This is not a manditory requirement to belong to The Village but it is the best money I have spent in a long time Dick heppnerguy
  12. i was looking through the forum today and something stood out to me there. It appears that many of the "support" status's have expired and it is ready to step up to the plate and send in our yearly support to keep this sight alive. As for myself, and many others, here in the village, It has been our morning wake up place. A lot of us 'feel' the friendship of one another and treasure the time and friendship shared here. Most of us feel like we are all long time friends. One of the last things I would want to see, is to have this sight removed from the scrolling world and the internet in general. So, if the removal of my 'supporter' status means what I believe it does, I for one am going to gladly send in another support offering and do my part to keep it alive. I hope the ones that feel as I do, will check and see if your status has also changed and give a little to support Travis's hard and dedicated work that he does for all of us, every day. 13. What a fun idea.. You should get lots of laughs and comments on these... I love em Dick heppnerguy
  14. I agree with you, This would be a great get together. One thing that I love about The Village is the chance to get to know so man people, and from all over the world. but the chance to meet some of them on a personal basis is something I cherish. i have personally met Travis in Portland for lunch, I met Paul, (srappile) and had lunch with Paul and his wife Patty, I also met Ralph a couple of times in Aloha where he lives, I met Loran in Arizona and had lunch with him and his 2 fun little kids. I had arranged to have Hans stay with us when he moved from Mexico to Canada but that fell through at the last minute. i was really looking forward to that. I almost had the chance to meet Marg from Australia when she was visiting the States but the dates that she was there just did not match my date plans. If there were any way that I could have made this Atlanta wood show, I would be there... I sure hope others make an effort to do that......so worth it....I have some pretty awesome new friends because of this kind of meeting and would not miss the chance to meet more.. Dick heppnerguy
  15. One day????? what are you a machine? that would take me at least a week to do. but then the reality is, I probably would not have the ability to do this at all.. a very interesting concept Dick heppnerguy
  16. http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/ Here is a great place to purchase a lot of different items for scrolling. Always friendly, helpful, good quality and prompt service.. Dick heppnerguy
  17. My daughter used some hummingbirds that I made using the intarsia technique and when I saw this pattern and I just had to make it for her. I believe this one was from The Berry Basket or something like that. I used a piece of 1/16 wood as my backer board for the center of it with the wall it is hung on to be the show through color for the rim part. It was a 3 hour project for me to cut. I thought I would be able to do it in under 2 hours, but then, I like the cutting part of it so I was happy to be able to spend the extra time in my shop anyway Dick heppnerguy
  18. Take a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNWrx_SUEyI\ Might help Dick heppnerguy
  19. darn.. you look more like a blade dealer than a scroller.....If the blade sellers ever run out of my blade,, I am contacting you... Dick heppnerguy
  20. Frank, We all owe thanks to each other just for the caring and sharing and giving that goes on here in the Village.. and we owe all that to Travis as well, without Travis we wouldn't have each other...What a great family we have here Dick heppnerguy
  21. I vacuum up my shop when the dust gets in the way of the door, when i get ready to go back into the house... Dick heppnerguy
  22. Nothing more exciting to a scroller than a new saw arrival. Good for you... enjoy Dick heppnerguy
  23. this is a great piece.. How could this not go for some big money? It is fabulous and will be well sought after, you can be assured or that Dick heppnerguy
  24. Glad you found us and I hope you continue to log on often and you will find it will inspire you to continue with your new hobby. People here are very helpful and friendly and can answer any questions that might come up for you. Happy scrolling Dick heppnerguy
  25. Welcome from Eastern Oregon take your time and enjoy all your cutting. It does not take very long before things gets automatic. If you do run into any sort of problem, just mentioned it here and you will receive more help then you imagined was possible. Try to get ahold of some Baltic Birch plywood and you will quickly learn how helpful it is when cutting something. I would also recommend you get ahold of some smaller blades for cutting 1/4 inch plywood. Maybe #3 and smaller. It will make cutting not only easier but with way less frizzies to clean up. Good luck and know we are really happy you decided to join us here on The Village Dick heppnerguy
