  1. Very nicely done. They are magnificent pieces. i had a request for one of these this year but I had to turn it down because I had a full plate and Christmas was to close to take on anything more. I love all your items. Thank you for posting them for us to enjoy Dick heppnerguy
  2. Deena, I too get some of my wood from my grandson who owns a very large cabinet shop that employees over 100 wood workers. My biggest problem is that his shop is about 4 ours away so I do not get there as often as i like. love your penquin. Dick heppnerguy
  3. We are all so happy you came out of hiding. Not sure how you did it as I have a hard time not logging on here and visiting with The Village family at least 5 days a week Dick heppnerguy
  4. Welcome Rick. I too enjoy making an occasional intarsia piece but I have never had the privilage to attending any of JGR classes. I am a little familiar with your area because I was stationed at Fort Bragg, near Fayetteville, (sp) for almost three years. I hope you log on often because we then can get to know everyone better, that way. Explore all the nooks and crannies and give some of our free patterns a shot. Glad you are here Dick heppnerguy
  5. Welcome Russ, first of all I have to say that I feel really sorry for you for having to be jammed in such a small shop but I guess one has to deal with what they have on hand. Just teasing you, Your shop is fabulous. It is really nice and well set up. I too live in Oregon and was actually born in Tillamook. I am glad you found us. The person that runs this site lives in Vancouver Washington and we are talking about getting together with all who are interested, to have a picnic or something this coming summer, so keep this in mind. There are no dumb questions and everyone started scrolling with their first piece so everyone has probably had the same questions you may have. I too have a Hawk as well as a DeWalt 788. I hope you log on often and we can all get to know you bettern Dick heppnerguy
  6. Malcom, I sure enjoy all the people in Europe that have joined our wold wide family. I think you will do really fine here as you obviously are not afraid to post and that is how we get to know you and you understand quickly what it is to be 'family' here. Explore everything you can find here as it is a full blown web site full of surprises. If you want to post a photo, you just click on the tab that is located on the bottom right side, just below the window you write your posts in, ( it says 'More Reply Options") on it. Then another window will open under your post and you click on the button that says ("choose files"). pick a photo you wish to post from your computer, high light it and click ('open) and it will load to your post. then on the new window that shows under your posting window Then post it and the attachment will be there. I did that with a segmented and painted piece that I did this past summer to show you that is works..Hope this helps Dick heppnerguy
  7. Dave, Welcome to The Village. We are a group of really friendly people that love what we do and like to help each other and share or projects. There are a number of people here that love doing craft shows as a way to pick up some pocket change. Jim Finn has discovered an item that works really well to create a steady sale base for him. Often the first couple of craft shows appear to be learning experiences and often do not make very much money for the person but after a couple of shots, things often take off, of course there are examples of the opposite results on both the beginning and later on. I do not participate in craft shows, personally because I feel it will put pressure on me to try and have enough items ready for sale and turn what i enjoy into 'work', and I do not wish for that to happen. Others get and Etsy page and sell that way. Others might us Craigslist or Ebay, or like myself, Facebook. All work, sometime better than others. My favorite is making things for my and my love ones, pleasure. I also enjoy donating pieces for Charity fund raisers. For me, I find that I am able to generate more money than I have set as a monthly goal and it pays for all my supplies of wood, blades, sand paper, glue etc, while keeping the pressures off myself so that i may continue to do this craft and have fun in the process, I also see that you are already posting so that says to me, that you will feel right at home very quickly because you will learn a little bit about who we are as individuals and we have the honor of getting to know you too, better in the process, Dick heppnerguy
  8. I too have painted a few pieces and I liked them, but my wife did not. Sometimes. painting just gets the work done when you just do not have a variety of woods to use or none of the woods bring out the pattern as you want it to. So in this particular piece, I think I too would have painted it. Wood Duck segments and paints almost all of his work and i never stop enjoying every post he makes. He does use an air brush and is very good with it, but I feel you guys are a little harsh on Dave. I think if everyone did every piece the same, it would be a little boring to look at the posts. Just this man's opinion Dick heppnerguy
  9. Helmut slow down.. you are making me feel lazy . I nice piece of work Dick heppnerguy
  10. Dave, scroll down the "Forum" until you get to the "university" tab and I believe you will find some nice tutorials by Travis using the GIMP program. He does a really good job stepping you through it and if you get stuck you can ask him your questions and he will be happy to explain to you, your problem, and get you back on track. The GIMP program is a very useful and free download. Check it out Dick heppnerguy
  11. a very well cut piece. I will bet we wills start seeing a few more lighted items now,,,,,kind of like when Travis posted the tutorial on intersecting word art Dick heppnerguy
  12. not everyone stands in the same place when viewing something and in this case it does not matter from which side it is viewed. Hey, and it makes it a little unique too.. i like it Dick heppnerguy
  13. Happy receivers on this piece, but who wouldn't be? Dick heppnerguy
  14. It is a difficult call for me too. I also like both of them and would not be able to pick one over the other. Very nice pieces Dick heppnerguy
  15. I have not done so Bob. is there a problem with it ? Dick heppnerguy
  16. I did pick up one and noticed the same thing. It did not work for me as well on the pattern removal and I only use it to clean out my paint brushes, It seems to work OK for that. It looks like someone already used it and then re bottled it. I personally would not buy it again. Dick heppnerguy
  17. This one will be on a wall for many years to come. I hope they paste the photo on the back so later generations can see the comparison Dick heppnerguy
  18. Great portrait of Elvis. Thanks for posting Dick heppnerguy
  19. I have to say as the others do, you did a fine job on this one.. Got to learn the wooden portrait for sure Dick heppnerguy
  20. Hey Marg, I like them a lot. We are going to have snow here in Heppner this Christmas and you are enjoying your time outside on your patio.. What the heck ? Dick heppnerguy
  21. I have not seen these before. they must be a German traditional thing, I am guessing Dick heppnerguy
  22. Ralph, I didn't know you could open a bottle with a wooden opener. I usually just turn one bottle upside down and put the inverted bottle cap against the one I intend to open and twist it upward. that works too.. I like yours, quite interesting Dick heppnerguy
  23. I do have the little needle and I was thinking about a new grease gun anyway Dick heppneerguy
