  1. I have cut real oak flooring and it is great. i also have a box of flooring that is 8 inches wide and about 3/8 inch thick. this one has real plywood manufactured base with a nice hard finish and it also worked out well, so I bought some other flooring that I found on sale at a big box sale and this one is made of some kind of plastic looking base. It is very hard but did not cut very well for me, so I have not used any more of it. the surface is nice but I dislike the main material it is made from. So in conclusion, if it has a real wood base to it. I might use it, if it is hard like some kind of resin base I would not personally use it. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Here is a piece that is a result of my granddaughter emailing me a request. It was interesting for me to make the pattern because I had to not only draw the snake but place my type on the borders of the round outside frame. This was a learning thing for me, so I was glad to obtain some new information should I need to do this again sometime. The hard part now is for me to try and remember how to do this later on, as I seem to forget things way too fast anymore. Dick heppnerguy
  3. I am afraid that I can not help you with your problems as I neither have experience with your saw, nor do I use spiral blades, but I am here to welcome you to The Village. Larry EA probably has given you a good source to explore, first. I have heard that wood sources can be a problem in some parts of the world, I also know that we have some member on The Village that also live in Germany and If you see one of their posts, you might want to instant message them for advice on a wood source, if you do not hear of something here. I am a little bit of a curious person and I am wondering, just where you live in Germany, as I have several friends in Germany too. I hope you continue to log on here so we can get to know you and you us. this is a wonderful world wide family of people that have some of the same interests as you and I have. The sooner you get to know people here the more you will want to stay in touch with us. Search The Village for all the vast information that is here for your use. Welcome aboard Dick heppnerguy
  4. Thank you, I will go check out my Dirk pattern catalogue and see if I can find it there. I like this pattern fairly well and would like to do it again sometime only a little differently. This was the first time that I had tried this one. I usually try to change something on my patterns when I cut then the second or third time so that no one gets exactly the same thing. Makes it more unique in my mind. Dick heppnerguy
  5. I like this pattern,, it might be my turn to copy. It is when I see something posted and I really like it, that I am driven to buy the pattern, usually not so much from the pattern magazines as they are usually so small they do not enthuse me much. Always a great piece when you cut it. I love your wood choices too Dick heppnerguy
  6. Good idea, Why do I not see the obvious ??/ must be my age taking over my brain, both cells too Dick heppnerguy
  7. I had to make two wedding pieces for the very near future so this time I did another wedding cross and tried a new pattern plaque, Unfortunately I repeated the way too often mistake of accidentally using my master pattern and now I no longer have this pattern to use again in the future, if I so desire, I hope some of you know where I can find it again.. I do like the end results of this one and I probably will make more of them if I can once again find it. sorry about the angle of the photo. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Don't ever feel alone. Everyone of us is still learning.. time makes perfection, so they tell me, I am along way from perfection but i love learning from experience as I saw piece after piece. Your brother in law will be amazed and wonder how you ever could make that one. Thanks for posting Dick heppnerguy
  9. Paul. You must have gotten more of your favorite spiral blades. Not a piece to try with a fragile wood like Cedar, that is for sure. I like it. Coming your way before too long, it time allows maybe we could stop be and see you and Patti again and take a peak at your shop. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Jovico, I am also very happy to have you here in the Village. You need to do one important thing here, that being to log on often and post comments where you can, as that helps us to get to know you. if you do this, you will find that quickly you will feel right at home as you start to also know us. We are a world wide family that cares about each other, this includes you too. Do not be hesitant to explore all we have to offer and I think you will be glad you did that. I remember the fire works disaster, It was such a horrible thing, I hope none of your loved ones were injured in it. I just visited Washington DC, our countries capital and while i was there I saw a beautiful bell tower, filled with many bells that was a gift from your country to ours in thanks for our help in the liberation of the Nazi Germans during the second world war. My thanks to your country for the remembrance of our effort to help regain back a peaceful country for your people, again Dick heppnerguy
  11. I know about living in a small town. We do have a grocery store, gas station, pharmacy, tire shop, and a long time resident jewelry shop. oh, and one cafe. there are no buses or taxis and the closest city is 60 miles away. There are no traffic lights at all in our entire county, which is pretty large. the population is quite small as most of the county is farming with many large ranches like 5 X 10 miles or bigger. People in Heppner, wave to you whether they know you or not and most of the 30 kids per grade have gone from kindergarten to high school graduation together. Kids are respectful here and volunteerly take away their own trash if you have a party at the local reservoir. Most people leave their keys in their cars and there houses are open to almost anyone that needs a place to stay. the kids are safe on our streets and all the high school kids take two days a year to help clean up the town by picking weeds for an elderly person to cleaning up the creek beds and much more. I love our little town where a traffic jam is 2 cars behind a tractor, and I would not want to move to the bigger town where people live for 20 years and still do not know their neighbors 3 houses away from their home. Dick heppnerguy
  12. I too would caution anyone about using this Steve Good device. A cleaver idea but just not a good one. Some things are better forgotten and I this is one of them. the other is I have also seen where you can just tighten the back screws on the DeWalt and it will hold the saw arm up too. down side it is the added stress on the bearings that you will regret when it is time to replace something on your saw that otherwise would not need to be replaced. So Sue77, if I were you, and I am not, I would not use the added blade tightener but instead, sand each blade on the ends before you put it into your saw and this will do two things, get the oil off the blade ends and rough it up just a little so that it grips easier. UPSIDE; nothing to harm your saw in any way. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Paul. If I have told you once, I have told you many times, DO NOT TRY TO COPY WHAT I DO. Now you have learned you lesson from doing so. It happens to almost all of us and I would bet that sometime down the line it will happen to me again too.. Sorry friend, you work is way to nice to have something like this happen to you.. At least you did not have to start all over like I did when I screwed up my first Eiffel Tower.. Dick heppnerguy

  15. I just got home from DC this morning and doing catch up all day. The lawn is cut. Big shop cleaned up from huge garage sale my wife had while I was gone and now I am giving thoughts to hitting the shop and finishing my three in current prijects and getting started on a new fret clock for my granddaughter's wedding present.
  16. The signs are cool. In my gardens I could stack cut all of mine with " dirt" Dick heppnerguy
  17. Strangely enough, I have never felt the need to wax my saw table. I think I will give it a try just to see of I am missing something here. I have had my saw for probably 9 years without noticing any problem. However as I have said before , I am slow to accept change especially when I don't see a need. Sometimes changes take a long time so one does not even notice them happening Dick heppnerguy
  18. it is what we do from the heart, with the help of our scroll saws, that touch people in a way nothing else can.. I am thankful to be in this family with you. Lorenzo Dick heppnerguy

You probably do Dick heppnerguy
  20. Larry, Let's all get aquainted again. all you need to do is log on often. That way as you get to know us all and we you, your enthusiasm to get your shop set up will only be strengthened by your visits here. Hoping to get to know you Dick heppnerguy
  21. Jim, I love how we have people from all over the world, coming to The Village for the first time. You mentioned that you think scrolling would be a nice, relaxing woodworking thing to get into. Well you got that right. First of all you need to get yourself a scroll saw, if you do not already have one. if not I would suggest that you buy one that will take pin-less blades and has a variable speed abilities. Because you are in Scotland and I am in the USA I do not know what saws are available to you there, but then your neighbor, Rob Roy should be able to help you in this category. Next comes the blade selection, again turn to Rob Roy if you wish to get an expert opinion on that and where to buy the right blades. i would advise that you select the easy looking paterns to start with and with a little practice you will soon learn that you too can cut the ones that look a little difficult now. Jumping into the ones that look hard is probably a mistake and will most likely spell disaster at the beginning. Remember even the world renown artists had to practice and learn from trial and error before they were able to achieve perfection.. same with scrolling. most important advice I can give you is to log on her often and let us get to know you better. Only a couple of us bite, but luckily for you, I don't have my teeth in right now. Dick heppnerguy
  22. Marg, funny you should mention that. I was going to give this same granddaughter my other Eiffel Tower, ( the 2nd one I made ),, but i felt so good about it, that I decided I would keep it for m self to enjoy. then I got thinking about all that she has done for me and the money I have made from my sales that was only because of her undying effort to help me with my page and I just knew that I HAD to make one for her because I knew that she really wanted one.. How could I not ? Dick heppnerguy
  23. the only time that I had a problem with the blade clamps is when i used an added, larger piece to help cinch down the key. I will NEVER use one of those again on my saw..I now sand each new blade ends before I install it in the clamps..I have had my present clamps for several years.now and no problems.. I have never used anti-seize but i am sure it is a good idea as so many are recommending it. Dick heppnerguy
  24. Funny guy, Roly Dick heppnerguy
  25. I would glue the pattern to a scrap piece and and stack cut it. Dick heppnerguy
