  1. nothing more satisfying than making a gift for the bride. After all, there is no one else more special in your life so a little thoughtfulness with giving a gift that doesn't wear out of die and be thrown away or eaten and forgotten, really tops the list.. Way to go Keith Dick heppnerguy
  2. Wilson I am glad you found this big happy world wide family here. We are all fun and friendly people here and love to share our talents with each other. Take some time and explore the entire sight, grab a few patterns and the show us your stuff. That is what we do here. We also have fun kidding one another so settle in and get to know us. You will soon realize that you are part of our family before you know what hit you. It is easy to come here but difficult to go away Dick heppnerguy
  3. Larry I really like that idea. Way too far for me but for those who are close enough to do so. Go for it. Dick Heppnerguy
  4. I burned it in my fire place. So I will continue to see if I can find another piece in my wood pile. Dick Heppnerguy
  5. Welcome to The Village which is the home to many world wide and friendly scrollers. I hope you find time to check in often so that we can all get to know you better. It sounds like an amazingly large project you are tackling. Do you have any idea how long you expect that project to take you to complete it ? I also hope that you show us the progress you are making as you go along. We all love to see other peoples work. Take time to explore everything here and help yourself to some of the great patterns that people have donated for our use as we please. Hope to see you around, Dick heppnerguy
  6. this morning I went out to my shop to work on my project and it had gotten a little chilly this morning so the first thing I did was build a fire in my shop wood stove. I then went out to my wood pile and split a small branch of with really ugly bark and bare wood surrounding the entire outside parameter. When the ax went through the peace and split it opened I could not believe my eyes. I have no idea what kind of wood this is but I am going to hopefully find more like this one.. The color is amazing and just like it looks in the photo. I blew me away. I had to give you all a look at this one. Dick heppnerguy
  7. and I am happy to report that the woman who got this plaque loved it so much that she actually hugged and kissed it. It must have been really meaningful to her. Good thing for me that she doesn't see all the great work here in The Village and has nothing to compare my work with. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Another idea that i do sometimes is use a 1/16 inch drill bit and then I cut the circle with my saw. It always comes out well for me when I do that. always be sure that you are using a sharp drill bit and your work piece is also sitting another board that is placed on your drill press. Hope this might help Dick heppnerguy
  9. As you probably know by now, i am not into craft sales. It is not worth all the prep and making a lot of things just so I have a good variety to sell. then afterwards i would have to start storing unsold items in a bunch of forgotten boxes, but then in a year or two of doing that, I could start digging out all my boxes and competing with Kevin and see who has the most accumulated boxes of cut things. NO that is really not a good idea, Kevin already has too big of a head start on my idea. I keep busy enough for me as it is. All I w ant to do is sell enough to pay for supplies. much more than that would take my scrolling fun to a different category,,,,,,tht being work. i didn't retire to do that. Dick heppnerguy
  10. I guess i am the lucky one because my grandson owns a very large cabinet shop and he always fines wood for me, when I ask him. His shop is in Portland and the time before last that I was in Portland he gave me a whole car trunk full of sole beautiful solid alder which I was able to share with Travis. I asked him to take more but he said he could not take more because he had to take the train home from work and would not have the room. Too bad, it was really a nice load. I also have a son who owns a garage door business and he custom makes wooden garage doors and he give me kiln dried cedar whenever I ask him. Both can get me wholesale prices on other wood but I have not taken advantage of that yet. Dick heppnerguy
  11. That is a nice pattern. I like the good contrasts and great work you did, cutting it. thanks for sharing, I do not even remember seeing that pattern on Berry Basket. Might go check it out Dick heppnerguy
  12. Come on up, Kevin. We would love to have one more family member nearby again. Maybe I could get you a job in Hood River or The Dalles Dick heppenrguy
  13. A person in our community, that my daughter works for, died while we were in Portland. My daughter asked me to make a memorial plaque of cross. Upon looking through my patterns, I became aware of the fact that I did not have anything in that category so I first went to Sue Meys' sight where I found several items that would work so I brought my wife into my computer room and asked her to pick one. She had no trouble finding what she said would be that perfect one. So I purchased it yesterday afternoon and went to the shop and cut it and had it ready to go by that evening. I will now add it to my Facebook page because I too like the end results. Hope you do too. Dick heppnerguy
  14. By all the responses to this piece, it is easy to see that I am not alone with my admiration of your work here, Gator. I too, immediately enjoyed not only the truck but also your selection of the wood on which you chose to cut it. It is a perfect match.. Love it all. Find work Dick heppnerguy
  15. Well said and executed. I like your sign a lot.. great idea Dick heppnerguy
  16. This past weekend my wife and I went to Portland for a few days and I contacted Ralph, known as rjR, here on The Village. We were together for about 30 minutes and it was fun to actually meet someone that you have never met but feel that you already know. I have to say that I would have recognized him anywhere, as he looked exactly like his photos he has posted here before. i am looking forward to our next visit together. I have to say that he was very open and we talked about a lot of things, from scrolling to family. So now I have personally met Ralph as well as Travis and next on my list is Paul, who is known as Scrappile. I will keep you all posted on my adventures within our family, as they happen. Sorry we took no photos, Dick heppnerguy
  17. A very self rewarding pattern to cut. These are the kind of patterns that I am on the constant look for. I will check it out too. I think you will find that it will go much faster than you are anticipating. Good luck to everyone that gives this one a go. Dick heppnerguy
  18. Looks like a nicely executed project. Should work very well and be quite helpful to assist you in your work. Dick heppnerguy
  19. I am very happy to report that the gal I made it for really liked and appreciated it so it was all worth while. Not sure how to w About making them for cancer hospitals patients.
  20. Here is an idea that is circulating around right now. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, their friends start a support group that they name the cancer patient and become part of their team of support people. I made this plaque to give the the cancer patient as a reminder of the support she is getting from her friends and loved ones. The photo is not really good but you can get the idea behind it Dick heppnerguy
  21. I was able to look at the photos that were posted, the first time I looked. after coming back to later posts and seeing the comments about not being able to see the posts, I tried to take a further look and low and behold, not photos available .. not sure what happened there Dick heppnerguy
  22. thanks all for the nice comments. Result are good patterns equal good projects.. Dick heppnerguy
  23. He really is a good pattern maker and I like his patterns a lot, myself. He does not cut many of them himself but enjoys posting the cuttings of others that have. I have several of the ones that I have cut of his, posted on his sight. Dick heppnerguy
  24. actually it is Disney' Donald Duck. As I stated in a previous post Oregon and I have since heard one of Arizona's schools are the only two schools that were able to obtain the right from Disney to use one of their characters as their icon.
  25. I also use an awl when I run into this problem as it takes all the splinters out of the way and opens the holes to their max. I also sand all my holes each time I drill them. I usually only cut a few holes at a time and work from the smaller and more delicate cuts to the ones that are most stable. Dick heppnerguy
