  1. Good ideas. I started using the painters tape because when I used the spray glue as Roly does on patterns with a lot of intricate cuts I found it left a residue and hindered finishing. The tape was not a problem. I also found that using the heat gun seems to leave less if the residue on the peace. I have tried the cello tape over the pattern but I really do not care for that. I was very pleased to discover that I can use my electric sander on even very I intricate cut things without it breaking my finished cut piece. It easily takes off the any remaining residue that might be left on the surface. And last if all, It is still not clear to me what eating yellow snow has to do with scrolling but since I have not ever tried it, I will just have to trust your word on that one, Paul. With all your experience I think I just won't bother to give it a try Dick heppnerguy
  2. His is the very reason I don't do craft shows. I did one once and found it made my fun a job. Not worth it to me. I sell things on me Facebook page and then it is only a piece now and then. Helps pay for supplies. That is all I am interested in. Gives me entry of time to make things for the people I care about. Stays as fun. Not enough money in crafts shows to take my fun away.
  3. I have never seen this kind of wood before. It is truly beautiful wood and a perfect choice for your project, which gave additional beauty to the wood as well Dick heppnerguy
  4. A good thing to keep in mind. I love the tips you catch here.. I saw the one about using a heat gun on the patterns to remove the left over pattern when you had it all cut. I had totally forgotten it and then I saw it again last week and I gave it a try.. worked so well, I could not believe it. I think that I will not even be using my blue painter tape anymore either. Anyone else have some tips to refresh our memories with ? Dick heppnerguy
  5. I can see they have the concentration necessary to get the job done.. love it Dick heppnerguy hey, cute kids too

  7. Welcome to the Village...I just want to let you know that scrolling really sucks and you will hate it. so can I have your saw ? Couldn't resist. You will find that some of the people on here are a little whack-o but of course that does not include me. Actually you are on track for many hours of great saw dust making. It is great to have you on board here for in such a short time after getting your new saw. Explore all the nooks and crannies here and be sure to check in often. we all will be waiting to see your productions and if you get stuck or bewildered with anything just fire a question and the solution will be waiting for you the next time you log on. 8. About time you got this done. I had to wait a couple of days to see it finished. Just kidding you... wonderful and amazing piece...it is fun to see the patterns you find to cut.. Dick heppnerguy
  9. We will have a houseful, starting tonight, from Portland and then we will be joined by family and friends that live here in Heppner. I think the shop will be on hold..that means about 5 down days. sure glad I started my family Christmas presents in October...But not too many left to do. I am going to bang out some ornaments to send with Christmas cards. Dick heppnerguy
  10. I sure don't think that I would call it my best project but it did turn out pretty well, I think, at least for me Dick heppnerguy
  11. This is a Sheila Landry pattern, Christmas Box. I decided to make it for my wife to add to our Christmas decorations, every year. I made this using Alder wood and a #5 double tooth Penguin blade by Flying Dutchman. I gave it a coat of of lemon oil followed by 4 coats of spray shellac. Took me longer to cut than I had anticipated, but to my wife, it was worth it Dick heppnerguy
  12. Kelly, There is a goal for you Dick heppnerguy

  18. my guess would be a 1951 mercury. some cars look a little similar at a silhouette. so not sure Dick heppnerguy
  19. Paul. at the top of his page he instruct one to send him the name of the pattern you are interested in and your location and he will send you the shipping cost before you make your purchase, at least that is how I understand it... I have been eyeing his patterns for a long time..but not made a purchase yet. He also has a free sample of his patterns on the right side of the page. i just downloaded it to see what they are like. His patterns are made really well , if this one is like the others. Dick heppnerguy
  20. My opinion is I would find a price that I would pay for something like this if I thought was a fare enough price to entice me to buy. I am retired so i may not pay what others would. but i know that for one person I would charge $75 to $100. for two people in the photo i would Charge $100 - $150, I would not charge a friend more than i would a stranger though, It would be more instead of less. To Get an 8 X 12 photograph printed from a photographer it would be at least $100 and the wood portraits is a lot more labor intensive than a photographer goes through. A portrait is way more unique, in my opinion. So that is my take on it. Dick heppnerguy
  21. another great and unique idea. This opens the doors for all kinds of assorted items. good job on them Dick heppnerguy
  22. I too want to welcome you to our world wide family. If you log on often it won't be long before you discover there are a whole lot of really friendly and talented folks here in The Village. There are a couple of things I would like to teach you, right out of the chute. The first thing is about posting your photos. When you are in this box where you are writing things, like you did your introduction your will see on the lower left corner a button with the words, "more Reply Options". When you click on it, it will bring up another window at the bottom of the box you are writing in. I will say Attach Files and under it will be a button that says "choose files". Just click on it and I think you should have the rest figured out. 2nd thing I want to teach you is when you click on the 'Forum' button on the home page it will open up a lot of sub catagories. Any of those sub tabs will direct you to most of the more used topics in The Village.. Check them out. But the one tab I want to direct you to is one that I, personally do not visit a lot but you will find it probably the best way to get to know the regulars here . It is called the "Coffee house", I believe. I think you will feel right at home there in minutes. There now I have taught you everything I know and I am really ready now, to find out what you have to offer us. I know that I can learn something from everyone here if i keep my mouth shut and my ears and eyes open So let the class begin, I already have my pencil sharpened and the paper ready So Glad you found us Dick heppnerguy
  23. I am sure it was not your home sweet home in Mexico. No snow and cold temperatures there.. Old buildings are fun to cut. Dick heppnerguy
  24. It came out perfect, how come that does not surprise me ? You will have to give us your recipe for your self made stains.. Does is hold up well with time ? Dick heppnerguy
  25. very nice work. the hand powered saws look very interesting but I do not think I would enjoy using one very much because i do not think I would be able to do it for an extended amount of time. Maybe if I were younger it might be a challenge to give it a try, but any more, I don't think I could do it. but I still have the opportunity to get on my computer and take in the beauty of your work and I only have to imagine all the difficulty involved with doing it in this laborious manner. Dick heppnerguy
