  1. You must have made this one with me in mind. It translates into my way of thinking. Dick heppnerguy
  2. nicely cut. Everyone seems to enjoy their name in wood. It should be a big hit with him. Dick heppnerguy
  3. Thank you Barb. I appreciate your comments. Always nice when someone takes time out of their day to write give a pat on the back to a fellow scroller. Dick heppnerguy
  4. I thank you for your nice comments. I just looked up your profile and found out you have been a Village member, even longer than have I. Talk about old friends. I guess we qualify for that, don't we? Dick heppnerguy
  5. Thanks you Dave. I appreciate that you took your time to make a positive comment on my work. Dick heppnerguy
  6. Thank you for your comments. Cedar is a really pretty wood and I personally like the smell of it. Always good to wear a mask, of which I very seldom do. I have realized after many years of scrolling and intarsia projects that I have a shortness of breath that I believe is probably the reason for my problem. Still don't wear one. How dumb is that? 7. I recently was cutting an extremely tight pattern and the turn was so small and sharp that I had my doubts as to whether or not I would be able to make that cut and not increase the room needed to do so. I was cutting a 1/4 inch thick Juniper wood and I usually use a Pegas #3 mgt blade for almost all my projects now. But for this really delicate, small and sharp turn, I elected to to to a #2/0 Pegas MGT and found I was successful. About the breakage on the smaller Pegas blades, I found the same problem with my blades breaking so I have been staying away from using them. I too have a Excalibur saw. What I have done to prevent the breakage is to fasten my blade in the holder, back off the back knob about 1/8th of a turn, set my tension knob and then turn the back knob to take up the slack. I found I had not problem with breakage that way and I turned the back knob only enough to take the tension off the blade but reap on the knob. I never broke a blade and I had no problem staying on the pattern lines or making sharp and small turns Dick heppnerguy
  8. Very nice cutting boards. I bet they cherish these for a long time. What a great and thoughtful project to give to the newly weds. Your cutting looks perfect. Dick heppnerguy
  9. Welcome back, Doug. I have to add this as I used to have way more line following for years. I didn't have problems with going off line and then trying to correct it quickly, leaving behind a lot of sanding to smooth out the crooked lines later. My problem was I felt really good about being able to cut a pattern really fast while doing quite well following the line, most of the time. I started doing a lot of difficult fret work and as a result I finally begin to slow way down and take time doing my projects. What used to take me one hour to cut, now might take me 3 hours to cut. I let go of the idea that I was liking finishing fast and now I learned to enjoy my time as I cut and the result is more satisfying in the long run. So my advice, should you want it, learn through my years of scrolling, to slow way down and take your time. It is not a race at the saw. You did quite well, by the way on your project. It isn't easy to get on the saw after a long break. Hope to see a lot more projects from you too. Dick heppnerguy
  10. I do not notice a physical problem with the Cedar but the sawdust not blowing off does make it extra difficult to cut. Thanks for the positive comments. Dick heppnerguy
  11. My wife just bought more boxes of Kleenex to put into the box I made for them and they were about 1/4 inch too large for the wood boxes, so now I need to enlarge them a little and re-cut them. No big deal, just was not what I really wanted to do at this time. Thanks for the comment. I will go ahead and put more finish on the next ones. Dick heppnerguy
  12. I bought the Kleenex pattern from Sue Mey. I thought it might be fun to have a decorative box for her Kleenex and I let her choose the pattern for it. It was a bit challenging on the lid as I cut the little fairies hand and feet. They are very small and delicate. I choose a 2/0 Pegas to make that delicate cut and it came out perfect. I cut it from 1/4 inch Juniper and gave it one coat of spray finish. I thought it was not worthy of more coats, as it is just a fun piece anyway. Next on up is a cross pattern I started to cut about a year ago and got a little upset as the sawdust would not blow off my project as I cut and I could not see the lines very well, so I set it aside. I saw it laying on one of my storages in my garage and thought I would go ahead and finish cutting it, not remembering why I had given up on it before. As I started cutting it, it became quite apparent as to why I decided not to cut finish it. Cedar seems to have that problem for me a lot. No other wood does that to me. I decided to try a smaller blade and see if that might help solve my problem. It did help a little but it did not change things a lot. I also used a #2/0R Pegus blade and decided to finish anyway. So here is the results of my effort. The wood is red cedar 1/8th inch. I will try to stay away from it from now on as much as possible though. Dick heppnerguy
  13. I need to give the the fill a try one of these days. I has always looked so interesting to me. Another beautiful project. You have me thinking now. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Great work. Keep making and posting your work. Looks like you have that new saw all figured out. Dick heppnerguy
  15. I finally have a couple of projects to post today so that help me with my lazy attitude, a little bit. Dick heppnerguy
  16. Nice piece. I tried my first intarsia many years ago before I even had a scroll saw, just to see if I could do it. I used my band saw and different shades of cedar and was surprised that I was able to do it. I drew a pattern of a dolphin that had only 7 pieces to it. Way to go. you probably will be making a lot more intarsia items in your future. Dick heppnerguy
  17. that is a very nice sign project. I think you nailed it perfectly. Everything came out so well. One to be very proud of. Dick heppnerguy
  18. I hope you continue to make some more boxes. It was one of Steve Goods patterns that peeked my interest in scrolling. Before I started scrolling I only did intarsia. I was getting tired of intarsia but always thought scrolling was things like an outline of a heart or maybe a cat with no details to them and I just found it boring to make and look at. The pattern that stuck my curiosity was a heart shaped box that looked like it was woven. When I found his page and looked at how it was done, I was hooked on scrolling and have been at it every since. Dick heppnerguy
  19. Thanks for posting. You have some really nice projects posted. Glad you posted them for all of us to also enjoy. Hope to see more of your work as time goes along. Dick heppnerguy
  20. It really is interesting to see the crosses done is different colors as it is often my inter thoughts as to what color I wish to use on a project and I often ask my wife for her opinion. Sometimes I am glad I did ask but often we end up with the same choices. I sure enjoyed you posts today Dick heppnerguy
  21. that turned out to be a very splendid pattern. It is so well done. You never stop amazing me with your projects Dick heppnerguy
  22. You stay so busy. Always nice to see your ambitious attitude, but makes me feel on the lazy side. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I have some of my blades in tubes but also some in their little mailing pouches. I need to remake my blade holders and mark them better than i have in the past. I don't use a lot of different blades and I do have some that never get touched. About time I got with it like you did. Nice reminder for me. Dick heppnerguy
  24. A super nice cutting and pattern, as all of your work is. I remember going to Rebel without a cause as a younger person and my thinking was right in tune to that of James Dean in the movie. I thought his parents were too pushy and controlling of him. Then I watched the movie again about two years ago and this time I was astounded to realize that I was with the parents and found they were the ones in the right and James Dean was indeed a Rebel. Funny how we change through the years and don't even realize that we are. Thanks again for the great art work and bringing up my memories about the movie through out the years. Dick heppnerguy
  25. I too have yet to make a gnome but I find this one really special and fun at the same time. Great creativity. Dick heppnerguy
