  1. No, I am the lucky one. she is a wonderful woman and we love each other a lot. Our marriage is the most important thing to us. We have been together since our high school days and both feel really blessed to still be alive, in pretty good health and still in love.
  2. I know exactly what you mean. I to have had a lot of errors in my years of scrolling. I loved to see how fast I could knock out a piece and this contributed to my breakouts and errors. Now I have slowed down and i am trying to improve my work in my old age but I still have me problems. The good thing is I am still learning from my mistakes and I think I will continue to improve if I keep the speed down and the attention up. Thanks for all your nice comments. I do appreciate them a lot Dick heppnerguy
  3. I finished another car pattern. This one stems off my very favorite automobile ever....the 1935 Ford. Ford made some design changes from the 1935, the following year but pretty much saved the best of the 35 and made a little different look to it. I figure, this way when a person bought the new 1936 it was recognized as a NEW car. Anyway, I struggled tremendously when I cut a detailed 1957 Chevy and was at my wits ends with all the problems I had with it, so much so, that I came really close to giving up scrolling. Luckily for me, I calmed down and finished it. This time I decided to have a go and hang in there and just get this project finished without loosing my cool. I did run into a major problem when a fairly large part broke off but I was determined to not get upset and not give up. I glued the broken part up when I mounted the car on the backer board and commence to make a frame for it. I made it with 1/4 inch BB Ply and made one choice that I wished I hadn't and that was to cut it with a spiral blade. I felt pretty comfortable the last time I used a spiral and decided that if I did not use it more often I would loose what little spiral blade ability I had worked to achieve. I guess I should have not done it on this pattern but I made it for myself so I can live with my mistaken choice, if it did not turn out to be a good choice this time. So here is what I ended up with and it is going to hang in my den with my 1935 Ford that love looking at daily. Dick heppnerguy
  4. I just know if you did cut one it would turn out really nice, after seeing all your other projects
  5. Thank you for the nice compliment, It is nice not to have to feel badly when I spend too much shop time but I would give up my shop in a heart beat if my wife objected that much. Dick heppnerguy
  6. Really well cut. It is a super gift for the ladies. Dick heppnerguy
  7. What a happy man you made your neighbor with this one. Nice job on this one. You are amazing with your projects and a very helpful person too. Thank you for all the suggestions and encouragement you have given me. I continue to view your work in awe every time I see one of your finished pieces Dick heppnerguy
  8. I have cut a lot of horses because a lot of my family own them and they always make great gifts that they always enjoy having. I also enjoy the great work you did on this one and hope to see more of your projects in the future Dick heppnerguy
  9. Barb, I do not spend a lot of time on my computer and have missed out on a lot of wonderful posts here but glad I am able to get on when I can. I love this piece as I have never seen it before and if you just made the pattern on your own or not, I do not know, but it sure is cute and well made. Very nice project Dick heppnerguy
  10. Those are fabulously cut, really nice patterns. Nice to have the opportunity to have a couple of your favorite memories to cut just for yourself. Your workmanship is top notch as always and I expect you will make a frame for these and post them in your sitting room next to your shop so I too can admire them when I am with you this summer for a couple of visits. Oh, to have your talents, but that will never happen so I just keep inspired by your work and continue to keep trying to improve. Great and rewarding projects. Dick heppnerguy
  11. It was indeed. The person that ordered it from me was happy with it and that is all I am concerned about when I deliver a finished project to the one that ordered it. If that person is not happy with it, I do not want them to pay me for it. If I saw something in a store for sale and it did not appeal to me, I would not buy it. I want a customer to do the same with me. Dick
  12. Some great tips I will try to remember them. I have never used puzzle blades. I know I do not have the skills you have but at least I am not giving up on this one. It looks like I may have it cut out before I go to bed tonight. On the front bumper I am going to cut those two little lines, using only one line. I love the pattern detail but it is very difficult one for me to cut. I did not make it as large as I would have liked to because I have too much trouble finding the entrance holes on a larger board. Being larger really helps cutting small detail because the smaller cut lines are a little larger and hence easier to cut. I have never tried to top feed my blades as It is going against the blade teeth and I try to keep my drill bits as close to the size of the blades I am using to minimize the tear out on the back of the board, unless there are a lot of room in the cut outs, then of course that isn't effected. I will try your tape suggestion when I finish cutting. Too late for replacing the cut out pieces though. I really appreciate the patterns as well as helpful information. I will succeed in getting this one done and hopefully be cutting another of your patterns before too long. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Bob, I love to hear the nice comments from people in The Village, as I know most have way more scrolling skills then I do but they still take the time to encourage one another. That is what makes The Village a family. Dick heppnerguy
  14. thank you for taking your time to send me a nice comment like this one, on something I have attempted. The comments are interesting and appreciated. I know that Travis works hard to make sure that the comments are not negative so that feelings do not get hurt or discourage someone so that they leave the village. When someone gives a suggestion that is intended to help the posting party to see where they might consider adding something or changing the way they do something, I always hope the receiver of the comment takes it in the right way and considers a learning aspect is in the comment. Dick heppnerguy
  15. thank you for your comment.. Oh, by the way, I enjoy seeing your posts and the fact that you live in a city that is named after a famous person from your area. I see several of those as i travel every year from Arizona to Oregon. Also a lot of main roads that are named after old movie stars, politicians, or athletes, like in your case. Dick heppnerguy
  16. I really did not like that particular pattern much because I am not a sports fan, but it was really perfect for my son, who is. Thanks for the nice comment though, I do appreciate that a lot Dick heppnerguy
  17. Awe thanks Marge. I love finding a reason to give something free to someone. It makes me so happy when they obviously appreciate my thought. I also have gotten a lot of work as a result of giving a piece away. It works both ways Dick heppnerguy
  18. thank you for taking the time to comment on my work. These are rather simple patterns but I needed to do something relaxing for the moment and I chose to make something to give away and these two fit the bill Dick heppnerguy
  19. I love giving my work to others and hope they will like it. If they aren't excited about it, that is ok too as they didn't choose it, I did. Not everyone would want my decorative firewood like I do. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to complete a scroll project, even though I see every small error in it. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I got the same response from my wife too. My son is a way better player than I am, but that does not take too much to beat me. I really do not play very often and have not worked to learn the game better, as it is not one of my priorities. putting it in perspective......I really want to learn to make wood portraits and it has been a strong want of mine for several years but I still have not taken the time to learn it well. With that said, one can't expect to learn something better if one is not willing to take the time needed to learn and practice. Thanks for the nice comment on my easy to do cutting. I do appreciate your comment. Dick heppnerguy
  21. I have not posted it yet in the local classifieds because I am not sure I will have the time to cut more and finish the 36 Ford before we head for Oregon Dick heppnerguy
  22. I started on the 1936 Ford yesterday. I started at the rear of the car, struggling a little so far as I try to familiar myself with the spiral blades again. It is not perfect but I am not giving up this time. I was doing the last little bit on the windshield and when I drilled the last hole in it, the windshield broke out as I removed the drill bit from the hole. That is not going to make me give up as I can still glue it in place when I am through cutting it. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I cut a couple of Steve Good patterns yesterday. One I did for a neighbor lady just as a little gift. Her husband has bought a couple of pieces from me for a local friend of his but nothing for her and I thought I would brighten her day a little with and easy little plaque. Her husband OKed the gift and I delivered it yesterday. Because my wife is out of state for three weeks, I decided to go to my son's house, as his wife is also out of state right now, to play chess and share a dinner and time together. My son is a big Red's baseball fan and has been since was probably 14 years old. I saw the baseball pattern that Steve Good posted the other day so I decided to cut one for him. I did not put a lot of effort into it as is was not one I would expect him to keep very long. I colorized it just so it would stand out a little better and gave it to him when I went to his house to play chess. I saw that is was an easy pattern and decided to give it a go. Dick heppnerguy
  24. I too love all your work and have done a few pieces using this manner of making them. You have been and continue to be an influence on me to try to do a better job with my work and I thank you for that. Dick heppnerguy
  25. once one let's themself learn spirals they can be so useful, especially on small fret work and large patterns. Nicely done project. Keep up the good work Dick heppnerguy
