  1. I cut this H. Botus pattern just because I liked it. I am placing it up for sale in our area to see if anyone else likes it as much as I do. I had it enlarged and I am using some scrap cedar to try and learn a little bit about making my own frames as I think they add a more finished look and really do not cost anything extra, at least right now. This on did not come out perfect but good enough so one gets the idea. I am thinking about maybe making a couple for my horse family girls. I will wait and see how their reactions are to them first. 2. I understand exactly what you are talking about. I take the extra hot summer to the cold and ice, any time. I never snows in Casa Grande and the population here is way smaller then Phoenix area and the traffic is more to my liking. It is 102 here right now but in one month we will go to Oregon for two months and enjoy the much milder summer there. So far that has worked for us. Our rainy times are few and far between but it does get down to almost freezing temperatures for a short period of time but no snow or ice. One of the strangest things about living here for me is seeing Christmas decorations up when the daily temperature is warm enough for the tops on the convertibles to be down and enjoying the rather warn and sunny days. 3. I always hope when I make something for someone, it will be enjoyed by the receiver. However once I give one of my pieces of scrolling, I hold that it is theirs to do as they please and if I see it in a later garage sale, I am ok with that because if they really do not enjoy it, why should they keep it just to pacify me? 4. Sam Custodio is an Oregon guy and I planned to stop by and meet him on my way back home from Oregon but on the day I was in his home, he was out on a fishing trip so it did not work out that I could do that. I have cut several of his patterns in the past but not too many lately. I am still waiting to get to your patterns as soon as possible. I am finishing up with a couple of requests and we will be leaving in a little more than three weeks to visit family and friends in Oregon for two months and that includes Seeing Paul (scrappile) too. Paul told me yoy made him a couple of car patterns and that you have been communicating with him too. He really enjoyed his time spent with you a lot.. Dick heppnerguy
  5. The houses are going up quickly here as the Phoenix area is in fluxed with 200 families moving here per day, on an average for quite some time now. Most homes are only on the market for 5 days or less and the asking prices are using a starting point for them and are often offered above that in order to get the house. I wouldn't wait much longer to look. We live about an hour south of Sun City. That would be really cool if you were to move in our area. I would really like to get to know you on a personal basis. 6. Tim, I am so thankful and pleased for you that you are beating the alcohol problem, hang in there. taking up scrolling again is a great way to stay on track. I have not seen your work yet but I will check it out soon. Keep in touch with all of us here and hopefully we can get to know each other better as time goes on Dick heppnerguy
  7. Welcome from Southern Arizona. Like others have mentioned we are here to share our hobby and help one another when needed. If you have any questions just fire away and you will find replies to help you, usually before the end of the same day. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Welcome to our family. Be sure and check out all the forums. You will find several tutorials and a lot of fun in the coffee shop. Drop in if you can and make comments to people in all the forums and soon you will understand why we call ourselves a family. Dick heppnerguy
  9. thanks Kevin for the nice comment. I do appreciate it a lot Dick heppnerguy
  10. It is the time of the year when the outdoors calls for your attention in most of the states, but hear it runs me inside or in my air conditioned shop, most of the day as every day is in triple digits here in Southern Arizona. I walk at 6am and take a stab at the outdoor projects so as to try and have them done by 8 am before it gets too warm for me. Dick heppnerguy
  11. That 's the spirit. It only takes some practice to get those spirals working for you. I never use a spiral larger then a #2 and usually like to stay with a #1 or smaller. Dick heppnerguy
  12. Thank you very much for the nice comment Dick heppnerguy
  13. I agree with you on your smoke lines. I appreciate all the patterns that Sam Custodio makes and shares for free. I have cut quite a few of them and have more of his on my TO DO list. If you have not checked his patterns out, go take a look. Easy to find if you google search his name. I just do not like to change things on another persons patterns except it I find where a line is too weak and then I may choose to enlarge it a little, just to give it more stability. Thanks for the two thumbs up . It is much appreciated Dick heppnerguy
  14. Another really well done wood portrait of a famous person. It must be really interesting to walk through your house and see your collection of portraits Dick heppnerguy
  15. My great grandson is really into trains so his grandfather,(my son), asked me to make a train plaque for my son to give him for his birthday. This is a Sam Custodio pattern that I have made once before, a long time ago. I personally like this pattern and since I had it on hand, I choose to cut and frame it. Dick heppnerguy
  16. Like you, I love making gifts for people, it is such a wonder way to share our scrolling love with others. This is an amazing pattern and It is east to see why the receiver of it was so thrilled. Beautifully done. Dick heppnerguy
  17. What a wonderful story. It really touched my heart. I sure hope this little guy gets to grow into adulthood and I am sure he will love this tractor puzzle to show to his family, should he be that lucky to have one. I also really like the story about Abby as we had an exchange student who lived with us for one of her high school years. That was 12 years ago. We were lucky enough to be able to go to her high school graduation and have seen her finish her College and is now an architect. She visited us once more two years ago here in Arizona. She, like Abby is for you, a part of our family that we love as our own Dick heppnerguy
  18. No apologies needed for this great piece of work. The wood choice was perfect for this project too. I enjoyed viewing it, thanks for posting Dick heppnerguy
  19. Those little gnomes are so cute, I have yet to cut one, probably sometime, I will get around to doing so. Nice job on this little fellow, Marg. Thanks for posting it so we all can enjoy it too Dick heppnerguy
  20. "A great project. You did a splendid job on this. This is the very reason I love fret work. It is always challenging and consumes a lot of time to cut but when one finishes a piece like this, the satisfaction for the scroller is high on the scale. Also it is fun to hear the 'unbelievable' type comments you get every time someone sees it for the first time. Dick heppnerguy
  21. I am not a sports fan but I certainly know about Bear Bryant. One does not need to ever watch any sporting events to know this guy. He took his team to a lot of trophy wins in his carrier. Very nicely done project and being a person who lives in Alabama, I am sure you have heard a lot of conversations about this fellow. Did you make the pattern? It certainly is a good one. Thanks for posting this. Dick heppnerguy
  22. We have two daughters and they both live in Heppner. Our youngest,Liz was the one who requested the sign for the wedding. By the way, Sharon decided three hours before the flight back to Pasco, that she would like to fly back with Liz and stay for three weeks, so I am home with the dog. We are going to Heppner the first week in July and staying until the end of August. See you then, my friend Dick
  23. Thank you for your encouragement. I will use them again and see how I am doing at that point. Some patterns just seem to scream to use the spiral and then I don't hesitate to do so Dick
  24. I hope things are going well for both of you. Still praying for you Dick
