Late entry. You may want to check out the Fein. I have it and it does a wonderful job for me in my shop. It’s very quiet, and a bit less expensive than the Festool. -
What’s the chance of showing us a side and back view? (And another inquiring mind would like to know )

I do the same process, and it works like a charm. I tried blue painters tape and shelf liner. Prolonging the blade life, in my opinion, is negligible using either tape or liner. So, for me it’s Super 77 on pattern, and applied directly to wood.

Congrats on the new saw! I agree, they are very quiet and smooth. I’ve broken a few blades on my Hegner, and it scares the living crap out of me when they do break. I will take the blade clamping system on the Hegner over any other on the market, as I have yet to have blade slippage and tensioning can be almost exact. Is it the fastest system? Hell no, but when I’m scrolling, time gets thrown out the window. A question for you James, Did you buy the lighted magnifier? I did, I like the light, but the jury is still out on the magnifier. Enjoy your new saw.

Those are beautiful!!!! I’ve been doing some spoon carving myself, but nothing like yours. I’ve been using birch blanks that came from a tree in our yard. Do you make your own patterns?

I’ve been scrolling for almost 10 years. Started with a dremel scroll saw and it kind of turned me off to scrolling. My nephew gave me an old Type 1 DeWalt. Much better machine! I then graduated to an EX-21. Loved it so much I bought another one. I ran these two Excaliburs for 5-6 years. One of them died. So I wasn’t too happy about that. This past February (?) I bought a new Hegner 18. Love it, love it, love it! Expensive? Heck yeah, but worth every penny. It almost, and I say almost, makes the Excalibur seem like a piece of crap, which it isn’t. The Hegner is very very smooth. Blade changes, in my opinion, is much easier with the Hegner. I’d buy another one in a heartbeat. If my remaining Excalibur dies, you can bet, I’ll buy another Hegner. Or at least I’d like to.. No, I’m not wealthy and I don’t have a lot of money. But I’m pretty sure the Hegner will be around long after I leave this round rock of ours. Not sure if I can say that about any of the other saws I’ve had.

I wax the tables on all my scroll saws, table saw, planer, and the ways on my lathe.

All of the above. Plus geared clocks, that in theory, run on a pendulum. I say in theory because the one I made doesn’t run. But it is on my to do list to try making it again.

How about a boat cushion. It’s a floatation piece with 2 handles. About 14” square, 2” thick. Walmart has them For $11.00. I use one with my old fashioned wooden drafting chair.

Very nice! I’m gonna have to check out Sams patterns. I think the frame is interesting, and I mean that in a very complementary way.
