  1. I have the Shopfox 1706. Identical to yours, same stamping, same fence setup etc. Different color scheme and name plate. I did add a 6” riser to it. I have it about ten years. It does what it’s supposed to do. I don’t think the motor is big enough after adding the riser. Plus, if I’m not mistaken, with this unit, you can only use 1/2” blades. One caveat, is I’ve never tried a carbide blade.
  2. I agree with RabidAlien. I really like the expressions.
  3. I also use straight edge and razor knife to score the fold. Also, when I am making the bird houses, I reduce to pattern so it is 1.25” x 1.25” square. It makes a huge difference when cutting the piece, plus less lumber. And, personally, I think they look nicer versus the 1.5” square pieces. I forgot to add, the birds are reduced in size also.
  4. Those are really cool. I like the color combo’s
  5. Very nice.
  6. I agree with Rolf, what a great idea
  7. I agree Ray, the guy is something else. It’s amazing the things that he makes.
  8. I also use a sanding mop.
  9. Spray shellac, acrylic craft paints. Kevin’s concoction of mineral oil and beeswax. Dab it on with a acid brush, heat it up with a hair dryer, let it soak in. Wipe with lint free cloth. (Lately, this has been my go to finish, ya can’t screw it up. ) Minwax Antique Finish in the red can. BLO/mineral spirits.
  10. I also use the Steve Goode style clamps. I really really like Sycamore67’s idea of putting knobs on it to have a better grip. One other thing that I do, is that, I do not complete to first cut, meaning, I leave a “sprue” on it. When I flip it 90 degrees and do the second cut it’s still attached to the block. I generally can find a spot where the part isn’t cut free until I’m at the end of the second cut.
  11. I look like the picture in my avatar. That’s me! 60 years ago, I looked the same, but not as much hair (hahahaha).
  12. I agree, 620 rpm is not too fast. And like Sycamore67 said, make sure the piece is secured.
  13. I’ve always thought cutting with the grain is more difficult than against the grain, especially pine. Its like cutting meat. Much easier against the grain than with it.
  14. That definitely is really cool
  15. That is awesome! Floyd and Ernest T Bass were/are my favorite characters on the Andy Griffith Show. I agree, black and white.
