You are so welcome to the village. I personally think the scroll saw is one of the most versatile tools in a shop. Pictures, silhouettes, bowls, boxes, puzzles, 3D cutting, inlay, marquetry, intarsia all fun. The list may go on. And except for the wood, it is a pretty cheap hobby, after you get the saw you want to keep. I think you will enjoy it here.

Thanks, I have had five or more messages between us, me asking which saw, he/she saying it is one saw. Marketplace. This is the second. Glad to know I am not completely bonkers.

I have been communicating with the seller of a Hawk saw or saws. I look at the pictures he/she posted and I see two different saws. I have asked the person which saw is for sale. He/she insists both pictures are of one saw. I do not see it that way. What do you think? I am not getting either, too far away, it would be a two day trip for me. But I, for my piece of mind, are the pictures of two different saws?

I have used 5-minute or 15-minute epoxy to attach them and have had no failures to date.

Neat. You have a good eye for selecting the right board for a picture. My neighbor, who has a stack of pallets, told me to help myself. All I see is a stack of ugly boards.

Deft has been my favorite finish for several years. I heard rumors that it was changing, and I have not been able to find it locally for quite a while. So I searched the internet the internet and found I could buy from Amazon and by purchasing a 6-pack I could get it for around $9 - $10 a can versus the $13-$17 a can locally. The pictures of the product on Amazon looked the same as they always have. I ordered a case of gloss and a case of semi-gloss. They arrived today. This is what I got. The semi-gloss is the same as it has been for years. The Gloss is a new name, a new look. It says on the can "same DEFT Formula New Name" I want to believe, however, in all the years of using DEFT, there was never a marble/bearing in the gloss cans. A something is rattling around in the new can. Same formula, why is a marble now needed in the same formula? I should be happy, it means more marbles or bearings to add to the coke bottle. I will see. I think DEFT has been sold. I don't care as long as it is as good as the old. By the way las,t time I needed some and could not find DEFT, so I purchased a can each of WATCO crystal; clear Lacquer. Not real sure if I don't like it better. Dries a little faster, but smell even worse than DEFT to me. It says it in more scratch resistant than others.

Great portraits and I like remembering the dogs that have shared our lives. They add a lot. It would be fun to have a remembrance wall somewhere in the house.

First, welcome to the forum. I'm Glad to have you join us and hope we can help you. From what you describe I feel it is a blade tension problem. Before you start the saw and after you set the tension on, do you get a nice ping when you pluck the blade? It should be like a high "C" note, I think they say. Blade failing and no real control when cutting could well be, not enough tension. DeWalts are good saws, many have them, I had one years ago and it treated me well. If you can and have a means take a video while running it. That could really help to determine the problem.

I have that one in two sizes, and just like the Titebond bottles the glue in these gets hardened and clogged. I tossed them and went back to the Titebond bottles. I am going to buy a smaller container of Titebond and keep it to use as the dispenser. Others will probably love the ones you are looking at. They just did not work for me. I also purchased one, do not remember the name that was a greenish bulb shaped rubber thing with metal tips of different sizes. Same experience with it. Guess I do not use glue often enough.

They are all beautiful boxes. Well built and beautifully painted.

AND, on a decoration for a fake Christmas tree, which we have, you could put pine scent on it and everyone would think you had a real tree!

I agree. My daughter several years ago moon lighted for a company the cut and sold the little items like plywood flags that you can buy at craft stores. They were for decorating. Probably mass-produced with lasers nowadays. Any way they had a whole room full of Hawk saws. When they went out of business those saw went on Craigslist. My daughter was able to give me some very good tips on how to, when I started scrolling.

I was not comparing saws, at least not my intent, I was trying to describe what I see available on the market related I guess to original price range. I Have owned all from entry level craftsman to Hegner including Dewalt, Excalibur, Seyco (Excalibur type). I "acquired the taste" for a Hegner fairly quickly, I admit there were somethings to get use too. But it is my one saw I would not part with. But I like to try saws and Hawk is one high end saw I have not sat at. I would like to. But I am finding it difficult to find the one that would be acceptable. Older ones are plentiful but I have read many negatives. There are newer ones but at their price range I feel hesitant because of the upgrades and mods. They seem important. A hegner for sell I can just look at it a picture and see what era it is and what Modifications are important to me. Not so with Hawk. I think my comparison is fair,as to what is availble in the used market. I have been scrolling for many year and I know the history of the Excalibur saws. I did not compare excaulibur to Hawk I compared the number of used on the market.
