  1. Nice scrolling!
  2. Sooo glad to hear from you. I was just wondering yesterday how it was progressing for you. That looks like it will make a great little shop. Great idea. Can't wait to watch your progress with it.
  3. Very nicely done, Dick. Your Granddaughter and her new hubbie are sure to love that. I think I have that one in my clock plans file.
  4. I've had a few in the past 40 years. Took the tip of a finger off on the table saw. Don't mean to gross anyone out with a picture of my roll of fat but this was a kickback on the table saw. The scare just above the bruse is from another time.... I'm a slow learner.
  5. Mike, were I have not suceeded with my Hegner is the small blades like the 3/0 Flying Dutchman Spiral. This is my favorite blade. I've tried many times, they just snap as soon as I start running the the saw. I have not given up, but I do not think a saw should be that hard to adjust.
  6. Glad you joined us. Anxious to see some of your scroll work.
  7. Great stuff! I love the compound cuts that create two items. The ballerina/swan will make some little lady very happy. My wife has been after me to try to make on of the sea shells. All very nice.
  8. Ronald, glad to read you are healing up nicely. It will be good to have you back scrolling.
  9. Thank you for the nice comments. They are very much appreciated. The part of this that made me most nervice was removing the pattern. I used painter's tape with the pattern on top of the tape. It took me 2 hours to remove it, because it came off in such small pieces and I had to be careful not to break a whisker.
  10. Nice work on your projects. I am seeing more things done in acrylic lately, it seems to me, and I really like the look. I have to give that a try.
  11. In April I finished the Charles Dearing pattern #287 called "Lion Roaring". Tonight I finish his pattern #230 of a Leopard Roaring. It has been a roaring good time. To me the Leopard turned out to be more difficult than the lion because it had more fragile areas. The leopard is done on 1/2" Maple. I used 3/0 spiral blades and #3 FD-PSR blades.
  12. I really like that. I need to get some acrylic to play around with. What type of blade do you use when sawing it?
  13. Very nice. Little sanding on the wood and a finish and you may be very happy with the wood you used.
  14. Glad it is working out for you. I really feel it is the best over all saw on the market. Just my opinion.
  15. Absolutely possible. I am still getting acquainted with it and and the more I use it the more I find I can do with it. But I have not been able to us a blade like my favorite the FD 3/0 New Spiral in it. I snap them immediately when I try. Maybe some day I will be able too.
  16. I have no clue how I posted this twice.... Gett'n old, I guess.
  17. I have an Excalibur 21. I've had it for about 18 month. Before it I had a DeWalt. I feel the Excalibur is an upgrade from the DeWalt, I know, there are people that will argue that, and I admit if you are happy with your DeWalt, there is no reason to upgrade. I did and I think the Ex is better. It will not do anything the DeWalt will not do but it does it a little easier and better in my opinion. Now, after having the Ex for a while I thought if I feel the Ex is better than the DeWalt, what if I went another step up and got a Hegner??? That must be the ultimate, right? I did it in a moment of weakness. I have the Ex and a Hegner. I am a very happy camper, and feel grateful I was able to do it. However,,, in my opinion, after having the Hegner for a few months, I do not feel it was an upgrade. The Hegner is a totally different machine and I am not convienced it is the machine to have if you like to to do delicate fret pictures as I like to do. I can not explain my feelings, I love using the Hegner for lots of things, but when doing a delicate picture like a Charles Dearing "Lion Roar" or a Mike Williams "Moose", I am not sure it would be possible with the Hegner. I have not been able to use a blade smaller than a #3 on it yet. Not saying it is impossible just saying I have not succeeded yet. The Hegner is a work horse, looks like it will be easy to repair, by me, if something does happen to break, and I love using it. But the Ex is a sweet machine. Okay, I am not sure why I am writing this. Just wanted to give my opinion and maybe if some one is contemplating going from an Ex to a Hegner, think it through seriously. The Ex WILL do everything the Hegner will do, but, I am not sure the Hegner will do everything the Ex will do. Just saying Hegner is great, but do not ditch the Ex to get it. I think the Hegner will out last my Ex. It is solid. but I could have bought two EX's for the price of one Hegner. I do not have long enough life left to wear out two Ex's and no one in my family is interested in inheriting my scroll saws.

Fish, you cute as well as you make patterns! That is gorgeous! I have it laid out ready to cut, but other things keep interfering. I will get to it soon. Very nice!
  21. Those look great!
  22. Great job putting that one together. I will try to remember that next time I need a baby gift.
  23. I have a fluorescent, used it for some time. I was have problems with headaches. So I recently bought a LED one with glass lenses versa plastic lenses. No more headaches. I cannot say for sure the fluorscent light caused the headaches but I do like the newer light better.
  24. Everyone does it differently. I save the delicate stuff until last. Reason, I'm afraid I migth break it while I am moving the blade from one hole to the next. Lifting the piece up and down... When cutting out a large area around the delicate stuff (cat whiskers, etc.) I cut small pieces at a time away. I do not want a large piece to flop around and break the delicate piece. Also on delicate things I like to go at them with a spiral blade so I can file along the delicate piece. Use the spiral as a file. Does that make any sense?
  25. Very nice looking.
