  1. Nice job, Edward.
  2. That is a very beautiful piece. I have never used much stain. Mind telling what type of stain you use to get such beautiful colors? Is it wipe on, brush. Just curious also, do you have a jig to get such perfect cut circles? The more I look at this one the more complex and beautiful it becomes to me. Thanks you for sharing it.
  3. Great job. Great loss in the Blues world.
  4. Lesson learned, but they have their place in my book. I just have to learn the whens and wheres of both.
  5. That is a very pretty piece.
  6. Exceeded my "Like This" quota today, so I want to say thanks for the nice comments. Dick, I did it with flat blades. Various types and sizes, trying to decide which works best for me. Let me know when you are headed this way. Gone next weekend and gone the first week or so in June. Ray go for it, one hole/cut at a time. No more difficult, just more of them. You can do it.
  7. Dick and Merlin, do not hesitate to order from this guy. He is a great person to deal with, very good service. I have ordered from him twice not. The first time I ordered was the pattern for this box. I requested the pattern be sent via email so I would save postage. I received it the next day, however, with my printers I could not get as clear of a printed pattern as I wanted. So I wrote and asked it I needed to buy the pattern again to get him to send it USPS. No he said just pay the postage. It was well worth it. I have since ordered 3 more box patterns from him this time hard copy. It is not expensive to take them to Staples, or Office Depot to have copies made. Ray, I have two or three things going all the time. That way is I run into difficulty on one I can do something else while I think about it. I have to change pretty often. Thanks for the comments every one. I hit my quota of "Likes" today so I couldn't let everyone know I liked their comment. Why is there a quota? Guess no one has tried the saw files I mentioned in my original post?
  8. This is a project I started in March. It is called the "Five Dragon Box", pattern from "finescrollsaw.com". It is no where near finished, not glued up I just have is assembled for the picture. This is the project that made me go from an advocate for spiral blades only, to an advocate of it is wise to get proficient with both flat and spiral blades. I cut this out with spirals, now I am in the process of filing/sanding all the cuts to remove the spiral saw marks. It is going to take me a long time! I have about 1/3 of the top piece done. I only work on it for short period because I hate sanding and I keep finding excuses to sit at the scroll saw. Been temped to try out some scroll saw files like these: http://www.woodenteddybearonline.com/x/product.php?productid=90&cat=&page=1 Anyone know it they work??
  9. Nice Work!
  10. Mikewix did this Sue May pattern last month and posted it. I really liked his so I ordered the pattern and tried it. This is my version, done in 1/2" Cherry. He said it was fragile, and he was certainly correct. Some of the buds on the perimeter are not hanging on by much, even with the backer. I enjoyed cutting it. Right now it just has a fresh coat of BLO/mineral spirits on it. I will spray it with poly or something when it dries in a few days. Thank Mike for the inspiration.
  11. Looking nice. My wife loves the Hostas.

    Great job!
  13. Multi-talented Carl! I like the painting. If I could paint, my scroll saw would get very rusty.
  14. I use the quick clamp because I do a lot of inside cuts. Did not care for it at first, but am getting use to it now. You can get the standard clamp with a "star" nut so you do not have to use the tool on the top clamp. It works good also. My table has a inset that will accept inserts. I do not know if the older ones have that. You can buy plastic zero clearance inserts for it. I have not tried it yet. I will make my own inserts when I want them. Probably use thin Lexon or plexiglass, something like that. It has taken me a while to get use to the Hegner, but the more I use it the more I like it. I had to slow down my scroll saw speed for what I did with my other saw. I'm gradually am increasing it as I get more use to everything. My last saw I ran full speed all the time. Blade preference is personal. I'm still experimenting with different ones. I have not cut anything over 1/2" yet. I would buy several types of the size recommended for that thickness of wood and see which type fits you best.
  15. Something I want to mention, I do not know a lot about it but I have read often on wood working forums, that you do not want to us wax that contain silicone on wood working tools. The silicone cause problem with putting a finish on the finished piece. That is why Johnson's Paste Wax is so popular. If it concerns you, you might want to research it. Just a precaution.
  16. Very beautiful box. I have got to try the ribbons sometime. I think they really look nice.
  17. I guess I have a question. I guess I do not understand why you "save" used blades. If they are dull they should go in the trash, if they are still good enough to cut with, why not just use them, next time you need that size/type blade? What are they being saved for? Just curious.
  18. Great sign. I need those all around my property!
  19. The painting really livened that one up. Nice work.
  20. Great scrolling.
  21. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. The eye of the needle is the one thing I didn't like on this pattern. I didn't notice until I had already drilled the holes to cut the eyes, but it does not look like the thread is going through the eye. If I do another I will change that somehow.
  22. You are correct, that is very cute...
  23. I collect those magnetic cards businesses give out and want you to place on the refrig door. They work great if you have a table top a magnet will stick to.
  24. Looks very nice!!
  25. I put my slightly used blades right back with the new blades. When I have to replace a worn out or broken blade, I will use those first it I see them. If not I will use them when they do come up. I don't see the need to separate them.
