  1. I have 2 green Ex's and both of their tables have very little wear. A few scratches but not worn the way I've seen some. I truly think the underside of the wood picks up some grit when the top is being sanded so maybe both sides need to be sanded. And wiped well with a tack cloth.
  2. Well, I'm happy to know it's not just me.
  3. It looks like you must have had some grit on the underside of your wood. The only explanation I can think of. The wood didn't cause that.
  4. Ok Uncle Les. I will.
  5. Sorry. The Hegner is a sweet saw. I still love my Excaliburs but the Hegner is such a small footprint that if I sell the 16" Ex I'll gain some space. I hate to let go of it but I can't keep all 3.
  6. Kevin, you've stated that you run your saws full speed. That might be part of your burn problem. No need for a variable speed saw if you've got your foot to the floor all the time. Maybe slow it down some?
  7. I went by the plans. Who ever thought that there would be a difference. Oh well! I'll just have to make another.
  8. It might be interesting to know why the scroll saw mfgrs can't use a sewing machine motor. Are they that much more expensive or is there another reason? They obviously have enough power.
  9. I wanted a quick project to try out my Hegner so I whipped this out. From a Steve Good pattern. I asked him to include a palm tree for me to fit our "beach" decor. Sadly, the brand of tissue that Barb uses is an oddball size box. Who knew? Puffs is about 1/8" bigger in one direction. I'm still lacking in knowledge of staining. I wanted it darker. Oh well...maybe next time it will fit and be the right color.
  10. I see you live in Kansas. We have a few members from Kansas but if you could connect with Scrollsaw703 (Brad) he is a master scroller specializing in Native American art. He uses a Hawk saw and is very knowledgeable. My sage words of advice will include to watch the Craigslist & Marketplace ads for a used saw. As for which one, the list that I would look at would include Dewalt 788, Delta (the Dewalt clone), certain Excalibur's, certain Hawks, Seyco, Jet (?), and Hegner. There are things to know about each of these saws that require you asking us about if you find one that you are interested in. In my case, I have not bought any new saws but I have 3 of the best saws ever made with a very small investment. I'm a "wheeler-dealer". I love to buy & sell. You have come to the right place for advice & information because we have members from all walks of life and from all over the world. Virtually every brand & model of saw is being used by someone on this forum so you will get your questions answered and in a timely manner. Best of luck.
  11. It might help to know your budget. Oh, and welcome to the Village.
  12. That's true but the mechanicals have to be miniaturized also. More trouble than I want to deal with.
  13. Well, thanks everybody. But, after review, I see that thing is 24" and I don't have that big of shop so it's off the table.
  14. Thanks for the info folks. I appreciate it.
  15. I recently bought the Wen foot switch. It's the very low profile one that is like what can be bought from Hegner but at a fraction of the price. Anyway, I have been using the same foot switch that Kevin has but mine are the momentary type that requires you to keep your foot on them. The big thing I did to them was to re-route the wire so that both the in and out are at the front instead of having one wire come out the side. It was always in the way to me so now both wires are out the front of the switch. And it's a very easy fix.
  16. I want to make this but don't know where to find the pattern. Anybody?
  17. I would guess pinned.
  18. If I was as close as you are, I'd be all over that. At $150, it's a steal. You could triple your money without doing anything.
  19. But, like all Fords, it probably runs hot! Lol.
  20. Who cares? We'd just be having the time of our lives.
  21. Sort of like Rv's. The designers have obviously never RV'd. It takes a woman to design a kitchen and bathroom. The guys should design the driver's compartment and outside storage bays.
  22. How could anybody not like a brand new Hegner?
  23. Let's start an assisted living home for scrollers. What a hoot.
  24. I have no idea. I never used it once.
  25. Well the Hawk that I bought was a 2 speed belt system and everything on it was very primitive. The blade mounting system was all allen wrenches and not fun at all. I don't really know why I bought it but it was just something that piqued my interest at the time. The Hawks have come a very long ways since I bought that one. I recently bought a very nice 226 Ultra that was like new but it had too big of a footprint for my small shop so it had to go. For the short time I had it, I was impressed with how smooth it worked and if I ever have a larger shop (LOL) I'd certainly have another one.
