  1. Thanks for the link but it seems that they don't have reliable sizes as the do the others. I'll keep them in my database though. Ray
  2. Jing is easier to work with.
  3. If you like the snip tool, do a google for Jing. It's the same thing but better and it's always active no matter what program you have open. I use it all the time in my email program. Ray
  4. Rocky, it's used for capturing a picture or a screen shot. I found one that's even better and easier to use. Check out "Jing". It is an easy install and it lives at the top of my screen whenever the computer is on. All I have to do is hover over it and it gives me a little menu that you click on. Then you have two yellow lines that you put where ever you want a corner to be and drag it to the opposite corner and release it. The it asks you if you want to capture what's in that area. Click on capture, then it asks you if you want to save it. You click on the save icon and it will give it a name (usually the date) and you tell it where to save it to. I usually save everything to my desktop so I can find it again. Really a slick little program. The snip tool works the save but I like this one better. Ray
  5. Thanks John. I did go there and check out their prices. Actually quite a bit higher than either Cherokee or Ocoochee. It would be nice to have all three samples to check for quality. I'm sure they are all very good but there seems to be a lot of price differences. I'm going to order from Cherokee and see what I get. I'll keep this topic updated. Ray
  6. Me too Rockytime. That shop of his will be almost as big as our home. Ray
  7. This is what I have in mind. It's a John A. Nelson and William Guimond design that I found in a book by the name of Boxes, Baskets and Bowls. There are a couple of neat ideas in that book. Ray Nut Basket.pdf
  8. Prudent? Actually, I was thinking about making the first one out of poplar and see if I can do it. Then move on to better wood. This project looks like, if I can do a decent job, it might be something that folks would buy. Ray
  9. I just came across a place that is not too far from me. Too far to drive to in all the traffic but not too bad if I have to. Anyway, they have much better prices so I might just be trying them out. Here is a screen shot or two to show their pricing. The name is Cherokee Wood Products at Cherokeewood.com. These boards are all 24" long. Ray
  10. Ok, here is what I got at Ocoochee. Still pretty pricey by my estimation but it is what it is. I'm gonna keep looking around. Thanks again. Ray
  11. Yes, color me embarrassed. I did buy a sample box from them and just plain forgot. Now, I need something wider than what they sent in that sampler. I'll give them a try and see. I'll let y'all know what I make out. Thanks for making me feel as old as I am. Damn!!! Ray
  12. Very nice set up Travis. It does go to prove though that no matter how much space you have, it will never be enough. Ray
  13. What state did you land in? I'd give anything to move away from where I'm at but the wife has her feet firmly planted in cement and not going to move. I am so envious of you no matter where you are. As long as it doesn't snow. Ray
  14. I know I have asked this before but now I can't seem to find it here so I'll ask again. There is a basket that I want to try making and it calls for: Red Oak, 1/4" 7ea. 5 3/4" x 9 1/2" Ambrosia Maple, 2 ea. 6 3/4" x 9 3/4" I went to both Home Depot and Lowes and couldn't find what I need. So, I ask again, where do you folks buy your wood? I know that I could plane down my own but I live in a mobile home park and I try very hard not to make a lot of noise, not to mention the mess. Any suggestions? I did find a place on line but it seems very expensive by the time you factor in the shipping costs. I'm just curious as to how you all go about it. Thanks for your help, Ray
  15. Thanks, I never would have thought of that. Really do appreciate your help. Ray
  16. Thanks Iggy, I sort of knew that but couldn't actually bring myself to think that you all are using food coloring dye. Now that you say it comes in larger quantities it does make sense. I just never thought that much about it until it came up here. Do you use it straight out of the bottle or thin it or ???? I guess by mixing it with other colors you can create the color you need? Thanks for your input. I'm really curious. I would have thought that acrylic paints would have been the answer. How about water colors? Ray
  17. I just checked yours out on Amazon Dave and also found this one. They both look like something I want. https://www.amazon.com/INDUSTRIES-7000-Sanding-5-Inch-1-Inch/dp/B000BQOU4A/ref=pd_sim_469_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000BQOU4A&pd_rd_r=YSP11PD9FRPXQNNRNK79&pd_rd_w=BgD53&pd_rd_wg=5BK13&psc=1&refRID=YSP11PD9FRPXQNNRNK79&dpID=51mvaFMmO%2BL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail
  18. Well, thanks I guess. I wasn't trying to be "funny". Just being honest. I had no idea where one would go to buy food coloring. I've never used it and as far as I can recall, the only "coloring" we have ever done was to Easter eggs and that would have been 40 years ago. Thanks for the info. Ray
  19. I guess I'm ignorant on the subject but where do you get "food coloring"? I've heard of it for a long time but if I was to go out to buy some, I'd honestly not know where to go. Is it a market item or ??????? Ray
  20. I had no idea they ever did that. Ray
  21. That's interesting. It has two i.d. labels on it. One says Ohio and the other Burbank, Ca. It appears to be a very old Hawk that might have been repainted. I bought a Hawk 26" in 1985 at a Denver Woodworking show and it was very similar in appearance. It was two speed, belt change. Who knows what this one has been through. I wonder if it's been repainted. Ray
  22. Another idea is "baggie" clips. We have a bunch of them made of wire that is dipped in rubber. They come in handy for many things. Ray
  23. Paul, that is absolutely gorgeous. I can't imagine ever getting to this level of talent. I can only hope. Ray
  24. Me too Les. I sold tools for almost 40 years and we also owned a Hallmark Store for about 6 years in Colorado Springs. No pension. No retirement. Nothing. I would have had to work til the day I died had we not bought our home in So.Cal. at just the right time and got the opportunity to sell it at just the right time. The 16 years of equity that we had gave us the chance to invest the profits and go RVing for 3 years full time. We came in off the road after my wife had a mild stroke and felt uneasy about being away from familiar surroundings so we came in and bought a mobile home near the beach. Again at just the right point in time. Sure, I'd love a bigger shop but at my age, it would be pointless to buy a bigger home in a place that neither of us is familiar. So, here we sit. Fat and happy. Ray
  25. Excellent series. Thanks for your time and efforts. I will save this for future use. Ray
