    I got the patterns from this book. I increased the size to 10”. The rings are raised up by using shims the same thickness as the ring with the middle ring using two shims.

    On March 20 I said I was asked to make a set for a homeless mission for veterans. I had already did a set about six years ago. Made these out of white oak an black walnut. Dipped in 50/50 mixture of BLO coated with satin lacquer As I said don’t mean to rain on Paul’s parade by showing mine. Mine aren’t up to his level LOL PS cut using #3 pegas MG an #1 FD new spirals on the rope

    I remember as a kid helping my Uncle clean out the milk cans. An was so amazed that he could pick them up and put in an out of the cooler. Thanks for the memories!

    I think what you have is Garapa. Were I get my lumber they can’t get yellow heart anymore. So I have been using garapa in its place. Both are very hard and make good accent woods when used with other woods. Be sure to wear a mask when cutting. The Purple Heart will darken with age. Grandillo is more of a red color I think but I have been known to be wrong, ask my wife!

    Very nice cutting! I am making a set of these for a homeless mission for veterans. Did you burn the Semper Fidelis in the wood? I was going to try and cut it but chicken out. Was thinking about burning it.

    Yes lucky that the only thing hurt is the window. I seen my high school shop teacher from 1967 couple of years ago. He had his right hand bandaged up like a mummy. He always talked safety to us kids. He said 86 years old first time table saw got him. I was cutting a piece of 1/4 walnut 3/8” wide. Only need one, no need to set up a lot of safety stuff, right, hummm on second thought SAFETY FIRST as old shop teacher told his bunch of teenage boys.

    I got a set of clamps for my EX21 from Denny. Steve Good did a vibration test using a cell phone app. I did the same. With the standard clamps it showed 0.3. With the pegas it showed 0.1. Other things I noticed are the saw is quieter. The tension level works much easier. Not sure if it is my imagination but it seems like I don’t have to hold the wood down to the table as hard. Only negative thing is after 10+ years of putting the blade into the bottom clamp (I top feed) it took a few hole changes to get the “feel” of were the clamp slot is. Really no big deal there. Would I take off a set of good clamps just to go to the pegas clamps? No. But mine was about 6 years old and needed the change. Just my 3 cents worth.

    Depends on the project. Paint the BB plywood, use colored felt, paper.
