  1. As far as I know, there are no middle to upper scale saws sold in the States that come with a light. It would not be a selling point to me. I know that the Eclipse saw came with a built in light, but that saw is no longer being made.
  2. I'm with you Dan! I assume you're buying?
  3. The way I see it is 4" or 6" added throat size is not that much bigger than a 16" saw. The Excalibur EX 16 was the only quality 16" saw available in the United State, which is no longer available. When it was available, it was still more expensive then a DeWalt saw.
  4. I certainly do not consider a light, or lack of light as a minus. Lights or even magnifier lights ar a personal choice. Chances are most folks would replace with their own choice. The light that is an option on DeWalt Saws is lacking in many ways, and is a waste of money. they include a light on some entry level saws as. a selling feature to make the saw more attractive to the entry level buyer.
  5. Nice work Bobby!
  6. Hey Ron, I though you were bragging about your malady! But seriously, make sure you take care of your ticker, it's the only one you have. And we want you around for a long time!
  7. 3/4" Teak is very very hard. Along with what has already been said, I would recommend applying tape to both sides of the board to help prevent burning. You can use blue painters tape, but I would use clear packing tape on top of the pattern and for the bottom, I would apply a blank sheet of paper then clear packing tape.
  8. Welcome to the Village Matt, come on in and join the fun!
  9. Yup, looks like Mahogany to me.
  10. The most important factor is the right blade. Do not use a reverse tooth blade as it will not clear the saw dust out efficiently. I use a FD Polar # 5 or # 7 for the 3D reindeer. The Polar blades have a slight set to the teeth. This clears out the saw dust faster which makes the cutting go faster. I also use Mhogany for the blank. Mhogany cuts like butter with a sharp blade. I can usually cut three or four with one blade.
  11. I like Wayne's idea, but here's how I do it. I use Aleene's tacky glue. I apply a very thin bead with a tooth pick then using the toothpick wipe off the excess. Then carefully apply the piece to the base and clamp it up. If you get squeeze out, wipe it off with a clean toothpick. This glue is very thick and easily wipes off without soaking into the wood. I use Aleen's tacky glue for everything that needs gluing on all my scrollsaw crafts.
  12. Great job Todd!

  14. I don't have a picture but I will be at the store next Saturday. I'll try to remember to take a picture then.
  15. Another beauty Dave!
  16. Great cut Paul! I love that pattern. I cut that several years ago. It does have a mini clock insert and a mini pendulum mounted on the back side of the clock. It is on display at the Woodcraft store in Ventura, Ca.
  17. I would love to see how you make compound cut patterns. I like to cut compound projects when I do demos. I am doing a scroll saw demo next Saturday at the Woodcraft store in Ventura, Ca. I spent the afternoon cutting up and preparing blanks. For this demo, I will be cutting some 3D dolphins and chickens and maybe some reindeers. I like to use hardwood though. For these, I am using Mahogany and Poplar. They take about five miniutes each to cut them I give them to folks that stop to watch. I will have several cut in advance to hand out. i rely on patterns that are available commercially. It would be fun to draw my own!
